I’ve been reading along and just can’t get over what happened to those poor kids
I will say though that I work for a local authority in public health in the north east - we’ve been having talks about retraining our safeguarding and prevent training to include “inceldom” into the category of terrorism and extremism. I don’t know if this was an attack because of incel beliefs, but it’s setting off my radars that he sounded like a bit of a recluse prior to this attack. Just because he had no known online presence, doesn’t mean he wasn’t into the dark web.
I don’t get why the police etc would want people to feel sympathy for him and I don’t believe that’s what they’re doing. I know some people don’t care about motive, his background etc and it is and SHOULD be about those kids and people he attacked, however motive is important too because it underpins things that are happening in society. A motive isn’t an excuse, it’s determining the WHY to help prevent this happening again. Whether this is related to incel beliefs or not, I’m hoping we can finally address this for the issue it is rather than sweeping it under the rug. For too long, there have been issues with budget cuts, staffing issues and lack of services and this does make a huge difference to society. We feel it where we work, and others will too.
