Do we think holidays will be cancelled due to fuel issues?
I am really wondering this - sort of holding off booking anything.

Has anyone been in a solo.com holiday? Some of the hotels don’t half look tired. Reviews for the experience(s)are excellent though 🤷‍♀️

I went on a couple of holidays with this company albeit over 15 years ago. On the ski trip I was one of only 2 people under 40 with about a 20 age gap between us and the rest of the group which led to a weird dynamic as we had very different ideas for the sort of stuff we wanted to do in the evenings. I then did a beach holiday and whilst it wasn't the fault of the company, some of the people on the trip ended up having a massive falling out with each other and it turned into real playground-type behaviour by the people involved which put a damper on the trip.
I think looking at their website they have changed their target audience to the older end of the market (in the past they did trips aimed at 20-40 years) so it may well by different now and although I am now easily in the right age range, I am not so much of a beach person so tend to go with companies such as Exodus if I want a group holiday.

Great intel - thank you!

I kinda just want to use it for ease - safety, convenience - then keep myself to myself and read and snooze and listen to podcasts.

I am v 40+ 🤩

Tempted to book a cheap hotel in the canaries/Greece/Majorca for next May/June/July as long as it had a pool I just want to relax. Seen them for £400-600

I can’t pick a most favourite as I’ve loved so many places! But my least favourite was definitely Morocco. It’s a nice enough place but I was harassed constantly and couldn’t even stop for a second in the street in peace. I was exhausted the entire time and couldn’t wait to get home.

Where has been people's favourite and meats favourite solo trips?
Favourite solo place will always be New York although it doesn’t really count as a solo trip any more as I’ve been so often that I now have lots of friends there. Marrakesh, for reasons mentioned by others wasn’t great outside of the hotel due to hassle from men, and I also didn’t have a great time in Mexico as the hotel and restaurants didn’t seem at all familiar with the idea of a solo female traveller. My requests for table for one led to enquiries about why I wasn’t with anyone and repeated offers or insistences to find someone to join me when I just wanted to read my book in peace.

Would love to hear people's tips for nice things to do on a solo trip to New York as I'm considering it for next year. I've been before but it was 25 (!) years ago on a family holiday. I remember being really overwhelmed by it all but I've travelled loads since then and I love a city break and it's the ultimate one!

Doing my first long haul flights today in a few years, I’m going to Australia. I’ve travelled solo loads before but I feel really nervous, it doesn’t help that I checked in without realising that I then can’t pick my seats, that’s never happened before. I contacted the airline and they said as I’ve checked in I now can’t select my seats. Of course I’ve been given seats second in a row of four for the flight to Hong Kong and the next stretch to Brisbane. I’m dreading it

I’ve sat in this seat (not willingly) for about eight flights in a row now to Australia due to travelling with kids.

Take a decent neck pillow, ear plugs, socks, eye mask. It’s a bit late but an Airfly Bluetooth adapter makes the IFE nicer to watch.

In HK you can pay for (just) a shower at the lounge (Plaza Premium) & for me this has always been a game changer in helping to make the flight feel a bit less grim.

If you talk to the desk when doing bags & passprt check, they might be able to move your seats.

I’ve found the leg to Brisbane can be either very full or not very full at all so hopefully it’s the latter. It’s not school holidays so it should be okay ish.

That's a great idea re the shower.

I'm stupidly disorganised though and don't have a neck pillow which has been on my list to get, hopefully the airport will have something
