If this is true then her legal team are lying

Is the lie that she was trafficked?

I thought this was discussed on this thread already and that the trafficker has been known for a while now. Plus it’s not like she could freely enter the country. That and being 15, possibly groomed (depends how one views it obviously), told to get married to someone and have sex with them… you see where it’s going. So I’m not really seeing the lie, if anything it’s just following the legal reasoning argument which is based on facts from her POV

No ,that she was nothing more than a housewife and didn’t take part in any terrorist activities!

It seems to be based on what other people have been saying and hasn't been verified from what I understand though I don't doubt it is true. And anyway, does the legal argument rest on that? I think it's hard to deny she's a potential threat to national security in general given that she spent so much time with ISIS and was probably brain washed by just being there anyway or she genuinely just believed all the bad stuff herself

Also I saw that the second season of the podcast I'm Not a Monster which follows Shamima's story is out in case anyone else is interested. The first season was pretty good and also focused on a woman who ran off to ISIS. Anyway, the producer apparently communicated with her for more than a year during the making of the podcast so it may be interesting to hear

Don’t you think it’s puts a different perspective on things if she’s a trained terrorist v a simple housewife groomed for sexual favours 🤷🏼‍♀️

As I said, whatever she did it's hard not to argue that she's a danger to security purely because she was involved with ISIS - even to be a housewife you'd have had to agree with their ideology

I also think that 'trained terrorist' is a bit strong of a phrase for someone who worked for the morality police - which seems to be based on shouting at women for not following rules - or sewing bombers into suicide vests. The only real danger with that is that she has the potential to radicalise others

Said she carried a gun, so I don’t think it’s too strong to think she’d use it, she seems to make pretty free in that camp compared to the other women maybe she’s someone with a lot of clout that they fear 🤷🏼‍♀️

And she’s back again. Same pattern. A “poor ordinary girl“ interview every few months to make sure she remains a cause celebre

Just the religious bigot next door this one. Not a threat. Will only kill kaffir in very specific circumstances. Other than that a quiet anonymous person. Apart from the regular self serving media rounds of course. The thing is she is not “so much more than ISIS”. She is inextricably linked to ISIS. ISIS is the only reason anyone knows her name. She is a literal no-one without ISIS. Her fortunes mirror it perfectly. Left for a perfect muslim life when it was at an epoch, now wants to return to enjoy the freedoms of the West after her dreams died on a literal junkyard in Iraq. Your actions. Take some bleeping responsibility for them.

Please don’t buy into this Britain.

The level of disgust I feel at the BBC is unspeakable.

I am so, so glad my mum recently cancelled the service so that we no longer support this deranged and dangerous organization via their outdated, ridiculous tax.

This stems from a podcast which has done a good job giving both sides of the story before and investigating the validity of claims being made. I wouldn't totally dismiss it yet

I hadn't listened to the podcast before, I have just started on the second series, I don't really get it. She says her mum took her to the bus stop (unlesss I have misunderstood) and didn't say anything as she went away... does this sound like a mother letting a child go to a study group? It sounds like a disappointed mother knowing what their child was doing but begrudgingly supporting them surely? I do not at all agree with her citizenship being taken away but it seems liek her family have had a huge influence on her and partly explains her actions

You don’t become a religious bigot in isolation or by being “groomed on the internet”, which is the latest catch all term for avoiding responsibility for one’s actions. The device you log onto the internet is simple data in data out machine. You don’t get access to extremist tit without searching for it.

If I was Prevent, or Special Branch, I would absolutely be having a VERY close look at her family. Remember Amira Abase’s father, he of the clutched teddy bear?

This is where grooming does come in though. These people aren't going to be throwing you into the deep end straight away as that would scare people off very quickly. Even watching extremist videos (such as beheadings) by themselves isn't going to really do anything, there has to be some sort of precedent for you to actively agree or not care with what is being done

The first episode is pretty contradictory in parts, the bit about the shopping list (found in her house) not having been in her house, where she was almost bragging about how careful she was yet how stupid her friend was was kind of bizarre

“Both sides of the story“ implies a debate is possible on equal terms. Just out of curiosity what exactly is the pro-position for an organisation which practised religious bigotry, sexual enslavement, and summary execution? Are these things now “on the table”?

There’s the debate that she has been groomed into this and is still stuck in that mindset. That’s literally what the whole argument with her has been about whether or not people agree or disagree

The first season focuses on a mother and her kids leaving for ISIS. The mothers argument (from memory, there may be some extra stuff) was basically that she didn’t know and then had no choice and had spent time imprisoned. The podcast explored that a bit and revealed some extra information that the mother hadn’t been as willing to share as well as exploring the validity of her claims that she was in detention

“Groomed”, “trafficked”, “unwitting”, “just another victim”. All highly emotive words and phrases designed specifically to minimise her personal responsibility for the decisions she made.

If she was “groomed online” then by definition she had access to the internet. And I’m sorry but she would have to be living under a rock, or be as thick as pigshit, to not know exactly ISIS were, and exactly what her role in the organisation would be. I spent twenty years sat in interview rooms listening to guilty as sin criminals of all shapes and sizes whining some sort of derivative of “I’m the REAL victim here”. bull then and bull now.

A religious bigot who if history had worked out differently would now be quite happy in Raqqa raising her sons to hate you.
