What Discrimination will she face? Will she not be able to practice her religion? She will likely face criminal charges, but that is pretty standard for the course if you commit criminal acts, and not discriminatory. Will she be denied services? Will she be denied human rights? She might have issues getting work, but frankly she didn’t finish her education and a noted religious Facist might not be the perfect fit in a company which operates a diverse recruitment policy. What on earth does she expect?

Can someone please explain what discrimination she will face, and indeed has faced, in her wasted life?
I'm not defending her or ehat she did at all, but I know lots of Muslims in London, especially women who wear the hijab, who face being shouted at (or worse) in the street etc. Imagine her walking down a street now? Almost every person in the UK would recognise her. Obviously she won't be denied human rights that is not what most people mean by discrimination in the UK though is it?

Well, for one, if she hadn't faced discrimination she likely wouldn't have seen ISIS as some sort of safe-haven

I don't even need to mention the Islamophobia which does often lead to discrimination, though some seem to think that's perfectly acceptable
I think you need to get off your high horse regarding Islamophobia.

Trying to justify Shamina's actions because of what you perceived to be 'Islamophobia' is just plain incorrect. She knew full well what she was doing.

Considering that many Muslim men are sexist, misogynistic and homophobic in their views, for them to demand respect from everyone else when they show such backwards views and intolerance towards others is laughable. Then have the cheek to shout 'Islamophobia' when their backward views are challenged.

Many people would not be holding negative views of Muslims if their views in this day and age weren't so backward and discriminatory towards others - just because their religious teachings of bygone ages teaches it.

So in short some people might be mean to her? No your right. That is definitely NOT what “most” people would mean by discrimination.

Will she be facing any more risk than any other notorious female criminal? For example Maxine Carr, Karen Matthews, Baby P‘s mother? And besides I thought she had now abandoned the hijab and embraced Western values, baseball cap and all.

She was certainly very Westernised in the programme the other night, several shirt buttons undone tight jeans she looks attractive and charismatic but a born manipulator in my opinion. The only positive thing I can come up with is that she, at 15 was young and naive, she saw ISIS as some romantic haven an Utopia she had been fed and then re invented in her imagination.

I really don't buy this at all. At 15 you can be charged with a crime and go to prison for it. So why are some still using her age as an excuse for her actions.

That really isn't an excuse at all.

No one has said that Islamaphobia is acceptable, except in your head. What I have said is that it is irrelevant when compared to the mass premeditated slaughter of civilians using hijacked aeroplanes as weapons. And anyone who thinks that they are even remotely comparable is morally on a pit pony rather than a high horse and needs to seriously reconsider their life choices.

At the moment “Russophobia” is the latest thing. And unless you have been living under a similar rock to Begum for the last year you know exactly why it is the thing. People who pretend to not understand this rise are in my opinion the same as the people who pretend they don’t know what a woman is when the authorities try to send rapists to womens prisons. An observation. If you have to pretend to be a complete idiot to defend a position, then the position is not worth defending in the first place.

I do believe she was groomed, which is a bad thing. But at 15 you know enough that joining an islamic terrorist group who post videos of people being beheaded and stuff is NOT the right thing to do.

I'm glad she's gone, I wish they would stop giving her airtime.

She claims to not have seen the violent videos despite them being described on the news. She also says that she asked her friend in ISIS who had said that the West was lying and sent her videos of ISIS propaganda where they make everything seem accepting (which is what the majority of their propaganda was apparently)

I think the big problem is that people don’t understand how radicalisation works. Might help to think of it as a big of a cult
Should she still be held accountable for it? Yes.

The thing is, if she is allowed back into this country, is arrested and imprisoned she’ll only serve a measly sentence. But the death cult she was part of will continue to devastate families and countries for generations to come.

Then she is an idiot as well as a religious bigot. Not to mention she has very toxic friends.

There is always a big bad alluded to here whenever anyone seeks to defend her. Always some dark malevolent force acting in bad faith in the background, evil faceless and nameless forces who somehow corrupt the innocent. With very poorly defined aims and objectives, and even more poorly defined operational parameters, but yet always slippery enough to go completely unnamed and unprosecuted. Also immortal it seems as these strange dark forces have been corrupting the youth for centuries. Is it not time the names were named? Just who is responsible for Shamima’s downfall if not Shamima herself?

I think the big problem is some people just don’t understand the way responsibility works. And it’s really very simple. You duck up, you pay the price.

I think one of the issues people may have is yes, at 15 you are legally responsible, but let's compare it to another high profile case.

One of the girls who was groomed by the Rochdale gangs was also used by them to get them other girls. She was charged with an offence over this. General consensus seems to class her as a victim.

Thoughts?

The camps come under the control of the "Autonomous Authority of North and East Syria". They are still working with countries to take back their nationals. Some countries are more receptive than others e.g the US has repatriated almost all their nationals. There's over 42,000 people in the camps, many of them children. The UK has spent $20 million on a new prison called 'Panorama'. We have repatriated 11 people but there are still 60 others in the camps.

I think her family needs to be looked jnto more too, it seems very obvious that her family never spoke negatively about isis etc

I'm finally watching the documentary, loads of this is already in the podcast, there are so many issues about the police thing and what they should have done, Prevent is so widely criticised that even had they intervened/spoken to their families instead of giving a letter (that wasn't received anyway) would the families have listened?
