I don’t know quite what to make of Russell Brand. I liked his first autobiography, it seemed pretty authentic & honest but his second one just seemed like a boastful, look-at-how-successful-I-am borefest

Nope never heard the abortion story either. After divorcing Perry he returned to the UK and was living with Jemima Goldsmith/Khan in her mansion with her (talk about champagne socialist) he was keen to marry her apparently but there was some scandal involving a masseuse which Jemima hired as a gift to give him a massage on this birthday. Apparently the masseusse beat a hasty retreat from RB and not long afterwards, much to her family's relief Jemima dumped him. I think Russel Brand is, as I said before, a pretentious, egotistical, irritating tosser. However I don’t see the evidence to support accusing him of being a rapist. I asked for it and got nothing other than internet gossip in response.
Same with Prince Andrew regularly being referred to on here as a paedophile. He is undoubtedly a horrible, sleazy, arrogant, entitled, loathsome individual and is guilty of a lot of things. But there is zero evidence he is a paedophile.
Rape and Paedophilia are two of the most revolting and serious crimes in existence. So I just think people need to be a bit less casual in they way they throw them around as accusations. Would you make those accusations on here if you were using your real name and open to libel proceedings?

I agree with everything else you said but I really effing hate that term “champagne socialist.” It’s straight out of the DM playbook. Socialism is not about everybody having to be poor. It’s about everybody having equal opportunities to advance in life. The notion that if you’re rich you must automatically become a Tory and not give a toss about the poor or underprivileged is such utter bollocks. Why do you have to be poor in order to want to help the poor?
I won't call Brand a rapist as I agree its a very serious allegation, but I think he has a malicious streak and and is a misogynist and a con man to boot. He can be very very cruel in a calculating way.
I am entitled to use whatever I like at least I can write a post without swearing.

Yes you’re entitled to write it. And I’m entitled to respond explaining why I detest it. I apologise if my swearing offends you. It’s a subject I feel passionate about but, yes, swearing probably wasn’t necessary.
The point is I come from a poor background on account of my father dying at a young age and leaving us with very little money. So I know what it is like to struggle financially. Thanks to the grant system in place at the time, I got to University and from there on to a very well paying job. Therefore I am now what you would call a “champagne socialist.” I see it as helping to give others a leg up and not being selfish and trying to avoid parting with any of my money via taxes or initiatives designed to help the less well off. Do you think everyone who isn’t poor should be right wing?

I come from the same kind of background and I had a grant to go to University as well and I have just been promoted at work at the grand old age of 64 and its nice not to have to struggle and watch every single penny at this time of life. Brand has always wanted to court the rich and famous including politicians eg one of the Millibands when he had his eye on a political career, he courted Hollywood when he had his eye on becoming an actor and of course Jemimah Khan in his eyes was top class totty. I don't think that these actions had any altruistic motives just trying to get in with top people to advance himself whilst spouting left wing stuff to us lot. That in my opinion is a champagne socialist. Glad you have succeeded in your life and I admire you for wanting to help others rather than always trying to push your own selfish agenda all the time, you are not a champagne socialist any more than I am
