Scarlett Vickers Trial

They’ve released his mug shot.

His behaviour has just been strange - and I know that isn’t enough to reach the verdict which will have been done based on the stab wound. But saying you haven’t been fed in prison and you’re wasting money on credits to call your wife whilst locked up just screams wrong priorities to me.

Maybe we’ll get more info about the family. I’m not sure if I’m a prude but smoking weed/drinking in front of your 14 year old child doesn’t seem so responsible to me. I know 14 is not a “child” but she still kind of is.

The sun have a video up of his police interview it's very obvious he's lying, no emotion either. If you genuinely did that by accident you'd be an emotional wreck

I'm also surprised but pleased about the guilty verdict, Scarlett didn't deserve to die like that, his defence was bs from the start and now he's moaning about prison food. I hope his wife sees sense because he's going to be inside for a while now.

In a 999 call made by Scarlett's mother, Sarah Hall, told an emergency operator: 'We were messing about, having a fun-fight. My partner threw something and he didn't realise.'

This is a pre-planned message to me ... To be let down by both parents, poor Scarlett

Well, there was no way that knife was thrown according to the pathologist. It penetrated too deep.

I wonder if the actual truth would have leaned more to manslaughter than murder though. What happens with mum now? As a murder conviction would imply she's lied on oath.
Mum didn’t give evidence so nothing under oath

Repulsive excuse for a Father has got exactly what he deserved. Thank goodness the jury saw through it. I do not believe a word of either of their stories.

I have a 14 year old daughter so this one hit me hard.

Hope he has plenty of “play fights” in prison…..

I think this part in the closing speech from the prosecution is what has struck a chord with the jury.

"Before the jury was sent out to consider their verdicts, Mr McKone said: “If you accept that Mr Vickers has lied about how Scarlett was killed, this must be because he has something important to cover up.

“This suggests that he does not have a truthful account which he considers to be innocent for you to even consider.

“In other words, Mr Vickers has not got an innocent explanation for wounding Scarlett when the knife was held in Mr Vickers’ hand.”

if I had accidentally killed my child in such a way, I don’t think I would care enough about what happened to me to plead not guilty and sit through a trial. They could put me in prison for all I care because my world would be over anyway

I'm really shocked at the guilty verdict. I think he absolutely deserves it but thought they'd be reasonable doubt fir murder that would make it manslaughter. His lies have caught up with him.
Motive still really puzzles me, I'm sure more will come out about the family now the media can report on it.

I find it a bit odd the reports refer to it happening while his partner cooked dinner as opposed to while Scarlett’s mum was cooking dinner

I wonder if his counsel advised him to plead guilty to manslaughter, given he accepted he was the one that caused the injury in each of his versions of events. Would have been interesting to see if the CPS would have continued the murder charge or accepted a manslaughter plea and dropped it...I reckon the latter. If they did advise that and he ignored it, he's taken a big gamble and lost.

Hit very hard in this household. Live in the town and my child goes to the same school and knew of Scarlett. Not friends but knew of her (and not for the wrong reasons!). Nice girl by all accounts, the headteachers account was very accurate (you do wonder when some die whether it's just said because it should be).

From the evidence and comments made by the judge I don't think that he would have got away with manslaughter. He is clearly lying. They both are. Poor innocent Scarlett 😢

I’m glad justice has been done for poor Scarlett. I really hope that whatever comes out about the family, that her privacy is respected. I can’t help but think of her poor friends as well, friendships at that age are everything, they must be devastated.

I was surprised at the verdict. I’m convinced we will never know the true extent of what happened to Scarlett.

I have questions.
Is the dad an Alcoholic?
I've read a comment on a different page saying he used to go to work drunk talking bad about scarlet?

He looks pretty old for a 50 year old and has the ‘classic red face alcoholic’ look. His words at the police station “I must be the unluckiest man in the world” sealed his guilt for me. That poor girl.
