Guilty of murder. Guess his excuses didn’t wash - shame on the mother too for giving evidence to defend him when she was there and saw it all. Disgusting.

if I had accidentally killed my child in such a way, I don’t think I would care enough about what happened to me to plead not guilty and sit through a trial. They could put me in prison for all I care because my world would be over anyway

I've just read about this, not heard it before but it definitely does not add up. 11pm at night, cooking tea and accidentally threw a knife which penetrated 11cm and into the heart???? I don't know what went on but it was definitely not that!

So he was pissed and high and they still hadn’t eaten dinner at 11pm. Sounds dysfunctional as hell.

When your story is bizarre and unbelievable, and changes more than once, I’d bet my last penny it’s a lie. Shame on the mother for contributing to this pisstake!

Tbh I just don't understand why you'd throw any kitchen utensils at each other.....I mean, I could understand a tea towel or something like that, cos I've done that myself...but I'd never throw tongs or spatulas or knives at anyone 🤷‍♀️ the story makes literally no sense, and I would not stand by and support my daughters dad if he had done that even if it was "an accident" as he thought he was throwing another utensil at her.
I don't even believe that's what happened though tbh, I think he's stabbed her deliberately or went to stab the mother and the girl has got in the way but they think he will get off with it if they make it seem like a play fight got wrong.

But again...WHO PLAY FIGHTS WITH ACTUAL UTENSILS?!

Poor Scarlett. The fact the parents aren't owning up to the truth tells you exactly what type of parents they were to her. I'm sure I read that open chest surgery was performed on the kitchen floor 😥 she didn't stand a chance the poor girl.

I always thought the fact Scarlett stayed upstairs all day and only came down when she was hungry was very telling. Reminds me of my home life I hated being around my mum and that was me I only ever emerged for food. Normal families spend days together or watch TV together or go places. Not getting drunk and smoking weed

50 year old Simon Vickers is on trial with the murder of his daughter.

I forgot this has happened but remember it now, I don't understand anyone who would play fight with knives? I don't believe that for one minute.

In a 999 call made by Scarlett's mother, Sarah Hall, told an emergency operator: 'We were messing about, having a fun-fight. My partner threw something and he didn't realise.'

This is a pre-planned message to me ... To be let down by both parents, poor Scarlett

I had a go at knife throwing once (all safe, at a target etc etc) and I didn’t get one to stick let alone penetrate the target and I threw them bloody hard. To get a knife 11cm into a person takes some force and must be at close range surely?

I'm not a mum but if I'd been responsible for my child's death, directly or indirectly, I would be catatonic. I doubt I'd have cared very much what happened to my own life after that. Easy to say when not in that situation but still...I think if my actions had led to the death of any innocent child (and indeed, most adults apart from self-defence) I would find it impossible to live with. The least he and his wife could have done is admit to what really happened. I know others have said it. It wouldn't bring Scarlett back but at least it would give some respect to her memory. She has had no voice in any of this.

They’ve released his mug shot.

His behaviour has just been strange - and I know that isn’t enough to reach the verdict which will have been done based on the stab wound. But saying you haven’t been fed in prison and you’re wasting money on credits to call your wife whilst locked up just screams wrong priorities to me.

Maybe we’ll get more info about the family. I’m not sure if I’m a prude but smoking weed/drinking in front of your 14 year old child doesn’t seem so responsible to me. I know 14 is not a “child” but she still kind of is.

Well, there was no way that knife was thrown according to the pathologist. It penetrated too deep.

I wonder if the actual truth would have leaned more to manslaughter than murder though. What happens with mum now? As a murder conviction would imply she's lied on oath.

I was interested to read the bit about the grapes being thrown and the dog.
I think he's an angry man. I think he told her to stop throwing the grapes because of the dog, she kept throwing them and he snapped and turned. I bet there's history there of violence/control and it's why the mum isn't saying anything.
It's a really strange story. I feel like it would be more plausible to stick with a line of "I was mucking around with the knife and she hadn't noticed and lunged at me"
The cereal bar thing is weird to me. Your daughter's just died, how have you got the stomach to face any food at all?
Then the cost of the phone calls and the woe is me. I'm sure there will be a history of him being controlling/abusive.

I think this part in the closing speech from the prosecution is what has struck a chord with the jury.

"Before the jury was sent out to consider their verdicts, Mr McKone said: “If you accept that Mr Vickers has lied about how Scarlett was killed, this must be because he has something important to cover up.

“This suggests that he does not have a truthful account which he considers to be innocent for you to even consider.

“In other words, Mr Vickers has not got an innocent explanation for wounding Scarlett when the knife was held in Mr Vickers’ hand.”
