I'm wondering if the mum did the actual stabbing and he is covering for her? Really curious what her role in all this is. She must have seen the whole thing and was originally charged with murder and then released. They must have some evidence indicating it was dad if it's him on trial
thinking the same

It’s been on my mind, in that their family set up is similar to my own. I just cannot imagine my daughter’s dad doing this. Today troubled me when he mentioned the small amount of cereal bars and the tongue in cheek comment about the calls to his wife costing him a fortune.

Is it at all possible that wife is standing by him because they’ve got a family secret 🤫

The jury has retired to consider their verdict. I wouldn't like to be one of them.

I think it might be a guilty of manslaughter verdict, a motive was never put forward by the prosecution for murder (unless it was and wasn't allowed to be in the media but I doubt it from reading the updates and summary)

Didn't think the jury would be out for so long.
I think it will be such a hard decision because he’s obviously hiding something, but what? Luckily there is an alternative charge of manslaughter because I can’t see them finding him guilty of murder. If not, he may end up being charged again with gross negligence manslaughter or causing/allowing death of a child. Even if you believe his BS story, if he hadn’t have been pissed up with a knife in his hand she would still be alive.

Probably an unpopular opinion but based solely on the information we have been provided with, I don’t think I could confidently find him guilty of murder or manslaughter 😬

The jury will struggle because murder is a mandatory life sentence, it’s easy for us to say he’s dodgy and lying but in their position, what do you do when you’re not sure exactly what went on? They wouldn’t be able to convict. That’s why I’m thinking about other charges.

Guilty of murder. Guess his excuses didn’t wash - shame on the mother too for giving evidence to defend him when she was there and saw it all. Disgusting.

Ooh I'm surprised, I was expecting manslaughter only. The garbled excuses and changing story must have been what did for him. Whatever happened exactly, it's undeniably his fault. RIP Scarlett.

Well, there was no way that knife was thrown according to the pathologist. It penetrated too deep.

I wonder if the actual truth would have leaned more to manslaughter than murder though. What happens with mum now? As a murder conviction would imply she's lied on oath.

I don't think it implies that at all - all she's really said is that she doesn't think he could murder her and she thought it was an accident? The fact that he's been found guilty doesn't mean either of those two things are lies

Very surprised it was a guilty verdict for murder, I was sure he'd get manslaughter. Correct result IMO, there's no way a stab wound that deep wasn't intentional. If it was a genuine accident then he would have put forward a more plausible defence.

I'm glad he's been found guilty. What a stupid defence. I'd be mortified trying to defend that bull.

I can't even begin to guess at what actually did go on. If you take that stupid story as an outright lie, anything could have happened. It'll be interesting to see if anything re the parents characters come out in the wash. We've had local crimes where one thing is being reported in the media, then the people that know them end up having an entirely different theory based on past behaviour. I suppose it's possible that one of them will change their story at some point, especially with this guilty verdict.

Anyway, poor bairn. To be murdered by a parent at 14 is just heartbreaking.

Wow I didn't expect that result like most people. I guess the jury's logic is why the blatant lies and changing his story if it was an accident. I think there's a lot more we're not hearing about this case
