Different things work for different people don’t they but here’s what I’ve used

The body shop ginger shampoo and conditioner - worked to start with then stopped. Made my hair feel dry after using it long term.

Tgel shampoo - didn’t work for me although it does for my friend but makes my hair feel horrid.

Prescription shampoo from the drs called dandrazol - worked but not instantly.

superdrug trichology range - didn’t work for me at all

Philip Kingsley - itchy scalp shampoo and conditioner and also scalp toner - this works for me without a doubt and I like the scalp toner. It doesn’t make my hair greasy or dry and I like how all of it makes my hair feel, it is expensive though but for me so worth it.
For Phillip Kingsley have a look at QVC - I was looking at it recently and they were by far the cheapest

Superdrug has their own range called Trichology and it has a shampoo, conditioner and tonic and it’s really helped my daughter’s scalp. She doesn’t have psoriasis but has suffered with a very itchy, dry and very flaky scalp since she was 10 and I think puberty made it worse. The conditioner can be used on the scalp unlike other conditioners and is really soothing. The tonic is amazing too because you use it when hair is damp and just gently massage it into the scalp. My daughter says it feels so nice and soothing when her head has been a bit itchy or sore in the past, though I rarely have to use it now as the shampoo and conditioner are working so well. They’re usually 2 for £6. Really swear by the stuff!
Didn’t work for me, I was really hoping too as the reviews online are amazing.

Well I have been into body shop twice now, both times they have been really unhelpful bordering on rude, so it’s a no from me.
They do travel sizes you could try and see if it’s worth going back but there’s also a rip off version you can get from home bargains, savers, places like that for £1 by the brand XHC - it makes your hair feel straw like and tangle when wet but in terms of the scalp it’s good.

Following 👀 I have a tiny, smaller than a 5pence sized patch on my scalp that is so bloody itchy it drives me mad. It doesn’t seem worth seeing the gp about but it’s so irritating so would love to know any recommendations
Daktacort cream may help for a small area. Mine is more widespread

I was struggling majorly with this over the past 9 months since stopping my pill, itchy, massive flakes all around my hairline. Body shop Ginger shampoo sadly didn’t work for me. What has worked is an antihistamine everyday to help with the itching and nizoral medicated shampoo (bought from Amazon) I used it every 2 days for 2 weeks, now just use it once a week and it’s as if the last 9 months didn’t happen!

It's been about 4 years that my scalp has become really sensitive. Very itchy, dry and flaky patch and also lots of white (poppable, sorry TMI) spots on and around my scalp (back of the neck etc). I have tried several shampoo even the ones prescribed by my GP (It's called Dandrazol but it seems to only focus on dandruffs). The only one that worked on the long term seems to be the Neutrogena T-Gel. The smell is really not pleasant but it soothes my scalp and the spots are completely gone when I use it!
T-gel worked for me for like 15 years, it stinks but it really does the job.

Then I had a baby and it just stopped working! So weird!

I used the ginger shampoo for a while and at first it worked, but then it just got worse and then my derm officially diagnosed me with seborrheic dermatitis which is just a fancy way of saying severe irritation and flakiness on the scalp. So yeah, I would definitely get it checked out professionally first to rule out any actual conditions because any of the 'drugstore' brand shampoos and products probably will end up doing more harm than good if it's an actual condition and not just a bit of dandruff.

If you try Nizoral, make sure you use quite a bit and really focus it only on your scalp and then leave it for 5 mins or so before rinsing (I usually shave my legs during this time haha). For a medicated shampoo, it's actually not too stripping. I wash my hair twice a week and use it both times but follow up with conditioner for sure - just avoid your scalp with conditioner & products. Once every 2 weeks I use a clarifying shampoo (I use the neutrogena one) instead of nizoral to get rid of build up which I find also helps.
Thanks so much. I used the ginger shampoo twice and felt it stripped a lot of my colour as well as making my scalp itchy lol. Will def try the nizoral. Also used something called betamouse this evening and i have a steroid liquid as well. I dont think i help matters as i scratch my head sometimes when its not even itchy as a habit. Need to.stop doing that !

So the best thing I used was yes to carrots shampoo, only conditioner I could use to my roots without it looking like a greasy mess in a few days, but I did use the Philip Kingsley scalp tonic. My new hairdresser advised it was the sulfates making my scalp greasy and asked how often I washed it and styled it. Which is weekly and she said I should buy her products and it’s not made any difference. But anytime i mention It, it’s because I’m not doing this or that, it’s mad that you do to hairdressers and pay royally for them to dictate to you. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way
I’d advise to swap hairdressers if you can. I used to have one who would always try and push their products they had in store to the point it ruined the experience. I swapped a few years ago and would never look back. She will only encourage products that work and if they don’t sell it she will tell me where to get it from.

Also, I’ve recently tried t gel shampoo and it’s been fantastic. Smells bloody awful though. I use that on my scalp then use my normal shampoo after.

I've used vosene and similar products with bleached hair and had no issues. I think coal tar can darken your hair slightly but tbh I've never noticed any issues.

Thanks very much that was actually next on my list to try as the ginger shampoo seems to be irritating my scalp more than it was even before sadly.

Nizoral is the only thing that works for me too, but I haven’t been able to use it over the last 8 months while pregnant so I’ve had to deal with an itchy scalp the entire time. 😑
