I think it’s a combination of not being able to cope with the traffic and the fact it’s constantly being moderated I think as there is an awful lot of dangerous speculation.
Much of that spilt over to the True Crime thread on here along with various other untruths.

I think the older you get the more you realise why parents are over protective of their kids and want to protect them from everything. If I had kids I would just want to keep them in bubble wrap with a layer of cotton wool just so they’d never have to know anything that goes on the world.

Yes, I was thinking about this. I am almost 30 and my mums till panics if I don't reply to a message for hours. And when I was at uni she always wanted to know I was safe.

He's either done it to frame another cop.
Or to genuinely hurt himself because he realises he's screwed.
Or he got angry and hurt himself while trying to break the door down to get out.

Or he was actually hit. I doubt this and hope it's not this.

I think he’s knows he’s absolutely ducked. Good

Agree. I have a 19 month old daughter and I’ve been in tears today to my partner over this case, I can not stop thinking about poor Sarah and the final moments of her life she had endured and the fact that one day, in the future, it could possibly be my daughter... You just never know, do you? It can happen to anybody and no woman I know hasn’t been assaulted. Over the last few years as I’ve grown up I’ve realised I have been assaulted far too many times and have gone through therapy for my trauma. I truly hope Sarah’s family can find some light at the end of this very dark tunnel.

I doubt he was hit- the whole cell is under camera there’s no blind spots, so whoever would of hit him wouldn’t of got away with it. Plus any decent officer would know that it’s just landing them self in trouble, hindering the investigation and just not a good idea. Not saying it’s not a possibility but I reckon he’s realised he’s screwed and has tried to delay the process by injury or killing himself. Sick.

My daughter turns 2 in the summer and I’m already fretting about her going to school, becoming a teenager, perhaps moving away for uni, just being away from me. Me and my husband were recently joking that when she goes clubbing we’ll sit in the car park waiting for her to take her home so we know she’s safe. But I know realistically we can’t be there all the time ☹ Due to Covid I’m a stay at home mum and I’m panicking about us going out into the real world, how she’ll manage being around other children, playing on a playground, going to a birthday party and days out etc. All these things we haven’t done but thought would just be part of her childhood. Mothers instinct is so strong and with the pandemic it’s all been about keeping her and our family safe from the virus let alone anything outside of this and I’m scared of us leaving the safety of our home to experience normal everyday things.
im 32 and have had so many things happen to me such as being followed, men coming too close to me in a shop/on the pavement/in a club/on the tube, I’ve had men make inappropriate comments to me at work both in retail and in an office environment, I’ve been followed by a gang of boys in a car when I was like 13, been catcalled, had inappropriate comments shouted after me in the street. My heart breaks for every girl and woman who has endured the same and far worse.

This is from the policing UK subreddit:
Any DP (detained person) would be put on watch if they present a risk to themselves, regardless of how high profile the case is.

Everything about custody is designed to stop DP's hurting themselves, anti-rip clothing and blankets, no strings in cloths, cells designed without sharp edges. If necessary an officer will have to physically stand in the doorway to watch them at all times
It seems like his only choice would have been to bang his head against something because there's nothing else he could actually do

At least his wife has been released on bail so they must not think she was as complicit as he was. Or else she told them everything she knows.

For sure realised he's screwed up, i imagine he'll be well aware what a living hell it will be as soon as anyone finds out he was an officer if he goes to prision

Yeah, I’ve visited custody a few times for work ( not being arrested 😉) and if there’s any doubt they might take the chance, they have absolutely nothing- even clothes that can’t be ripped to strangle themselves with. Violently slamming his head is one of the very few, if only, way he could of tried to cause damage to himself. He’s probably done it within the 30 minute window between cell checks.

So sad! I was driving home from a friends with my bf a few years ago at about midnight and I pulled up at some lights and this girl was crossing the road walking very fast looking agitated and a guy following behind. My bf made me ask her was she ok (which normally id just mind my own business) when I did she practically ran over to my car and was petrified and said the guy had been following her for about 10 mins, I told her to get in and we’d drive her home, when she got in he stopped dead on the spot stood staring at us and then turned back and walked back the way he came! Who knows what his intentions was that night but I’m so glad I helped!

When i was about 20 i was shopping in the next town to me as its a big town centre on my own. I noticed this guy starting to follow me but i was telling myself i was thinking it so to prove wrong i would walk in and out of shops to see if it was just a coincidence or deliberate. He approached me in the street and i just ignored him and walked fastly into John Lewis upto the first makeup counter and ducked behind it. Two female employees standing there looked at me weirdly thinking what on earth you doing and i pointed towards the shop floor and mouthed help me. The both instantly stood round me and called on another female employee over to hide me. One if them bent down to pretend she was looking for something and asked me if im was ok and what was wrong. I explained that this guy had been following me for the last 15 minutes and could of been for longer but only noticed when he was stood in River Island just staring at me. I gave a description and the lady said hes still in the store and to keep calm and asked if i was on my own or meeting someone. I explained i was on my own and she said just stay here for a while. She saw him leave and called over a manager who was a guy and explained the incident. He asked me if i drove into town or took a bus/train. I explained i was in one of the main car parks and gave them name and he said ok give me a minute and we will sort something. He came back with his coat on and walked me with the female employee to the car park, they stood with me while i paid and walked me right upto my car. I went home and cried to my mum and she took me into town the following weekend to personally thank the staff and said if it wasnt for you god knows.
Its been 10 years and ive never been back to that town on my own.

I have seen a lot of people suggesting this is there something ive missed or just a lot of people having a hunch? i guess im just naive and annoyed enough for it to be some one off thing
I’m not sure tbh. We now know that he’s exposed himself prior to Sarah. That probably wasn’t his first offence either. Part of me thinks there’s no way he might of kidnapped and murdered before and got away with it, but it’s possible now knowing he’s clearly a disturbed sex offender, so I feel like he’s either done something similar before. Someone also reported there’s rumours on social media of more private ambulances, diving squads at areas around Kent, searching even though it appears Sarah’s remains have been found.

I used to work as a civilian in a UK police force & I agree, I think the injury was self-inflicted. Custody is very heavily geared up to protect the detained person & he will likely be in one of the cells with CCTV & likely have 1/2 officers with him constantly - they don’t enter the cells, they sit outside so I do doubt anyone has attacked him. Although I don’t doubt for one minute they don’t feel like it.

this case, like all of you on here has deeply effected me. Not only for my sadness & upset for Sarah, my own personal experiences of sexual assault/harassment by males, including a friend, being victim blamed & then for my ex-policing family who this is also horrendous for due to who has committed these offences.
I like most on here think this is just the surface. I saw a girl on Twitter that has been saying she walked this same route in 2017 & someone tried to kidnap her, in a black car with blacked out windows but she fought them & luckily got away. She told police at the time but nothing was done. She gave them this info a couple of days ago & then the next minute, this guys car was seen on cctv & it was a very similar car (if not the same) to what she described. I obviously don’t know the ins & outs, or if indeed it was the same person but she is convinced there is like a gang targeting blonde females & more have gone missing.
its all just so awful & so so scary. My heart goes out to Sarah’s family 😔
