I used to practice family law and I can only imagine what an extremely difficult client US would be for his legal team. I can imagine him being really inconsistent, changing his instructions frequently and evading important questions. I acted for a man similar to this years ago and he portrayed himself as a victim of DV, when it was absolutely clear he was in fact the perpetrator. It was really difficult to act for him. Based solely on what we've heard in the press, I don't believe US whatsoever. I think he's a manipulative, lying excuse of a human being.

Will be interesting to see if BB gives evidence. For the record, I believe she's equally as culpable.

I was actually thinking of Christian fundamentalism which also doesn’t value women and girls, and America currently seeming to use the Handmaid’s Tale as some sort of inspiration.
I’m here for difficult conversations in relation to specific cultures and religions, what I’m not here for is “we shouldn’t let that culture in our country”. People from this country are quite able to kill their own children, too.
Yes that's very true, although I think it would still be correct to say that Christianity is not, at its heart (ie the 4 gospels) a warrior religion. In fact Jesus is specifically portrayed as going out of his way to tell his followers to IGNORE the precepts of the Old Testament ('an eye for an eye' becomes 'turn the other cheek') which, when you consider that Christians believe that the Old Testament was essentially dictated by Jesus's dad, is an incredibly radical and revolutionary position to take tbh.

imvvho Islam and Sikhism are historically warrior religions although I think Sikhism has done a better job of adjusting that to a modern world (MOSTLY). Ofc, the Western Christian leaders of the Middle Ages tried to make Christianity a warrior religion with the crusades, but that was dropped eventually cos there were pesky doctrinal problems which kept cropping up (plus the money ran out, they kept getting their arses handed to them on a plate by Saladin, they lost Constantinople etc).

Fundamentalism in the USA yes, but I don't think you really get that flavour of Christianity here in UK, we're too balanced. We got rid of all our Christian extremists by encouraging them onto the Mayflower and suggesting they fuck off to America lol

Anyway sorry for derail and back on topic...the alleged jetwashing, I just can't. It's especially disgusting cos respect for and proper ritualised treatment of the departed is a big thing in Islam. Presumably there's good forensic evidence that Sara's little broken body was in the garden. These people are fucking foul. At the risk of sounding like a frothing Express reader, prison is LITERALLY too good for them.

I don't believe it. I do not believe it's all him. BB ordered the tape used to bind her and they were all in that house while it was going on. She was the accepted outlet for all of the adults anger and frustrations. I want BB and the brother to be found culpable too. They are despicable

If you were to believe that BB was terrified of US and that's why she stood by whilst this was happening why on earth did her sister do nothing? I couldn't sit by or say read the Qur'an and not do anything about it. I'd assume my sister was reaching out to me to help her do what she's too afraid to do. I don't believe BB was scared of US but this is what we're supposed to believe here, isn't it? This is the defence she's concocting

There have been so many of these horrific cases over the past few years. For me, this one, and the ones involving young Arthur and Logan have just floored me. I think that part of it is that they were all of an age where they could articulate the pain and suffering that they were going through. That adds another layer for me. That scene where Arthur wakes up in the front room and plaintively wails that no-one loves him is forever etched in my mind.

It's impossible to fully conceive the evilness of these people. This wasn't a one-off assault, but a sustained campaign of such ferocity and degradation, it is almost incomprehensible. The Prosecution suggests that BB and FM would message US and deliberately wind him up with tales of Sara's wrongdoing knowing that he would come back to mete out harsh punishments to her. Why would two adults harbour such hatred towards a young girl in their care?

The brutally and sadistic torture is truly unbelievable. I'm really struggling with this case, but as someone else on this thread said recently, I have the ability to turn away: poor Sara didn't, She had no respite and no-one to turn to. That poor, poor little girl.

I am really impressed the police in Pakistan hunted them down and they were that scared of them that they had to flee here
Also impressed the UK police cuffed them and charged them as I do think they thought they could all talk their way out of it.
I am still raging about that video they made while in Pakistan saying it was an incident and that they were scared to get food or go out.
Looks like they wont be nipping out to Tescos any time soon. And they wont be safe in prison here if they murdered a child

I think what it comes down to is that we have to ask ourselves this:
If we were out of the house all day and our partner was the main care giver, is it feasible that we could come home in the evening and not know our child had been beaten and abused to the extent that Sara had been I say that is absolutely not feasible. I would know if my child had a headache never mind open sores from burns and broken bones and covered in bruises. The entire thing is a fabrication and I hope all 3 rot in jail.

I’ve got no sympathies towards the accused but it is only right and proper that an interpreter has been used if English is not their first language. The words we use for everyday life are very different to the phrases etc used in legal proceedings. Also, being caught out as a murderer is about as stressful as it gets and in times of stress people will want to communicate in their usual spoken language. As others have said, it’s for the best that nobody is able to claim they didn’t have charges etc explained in a way they could understand, and proof needs to be obtained that they’ve been able to tell their (made up) story in their own (lying) words.

Likely Sara got blamed for every single thing in that house, regardless of what was done.

The texts are pure arse covering, like she was cunning enough to realise teachers, SS or neighbours would inevitably report them. She was laying a deliberatetrail of deflection.
Why would a terrified and beaten child deliberately cut up her abusers clothes? The bite marks can only have been the stepmother...dad, older brother and uncle were forensically eliminated, and the other children presumably too young to match.

So the hijab was to cover her injuries. It seemed very pulled forward in the school picture compared to most of the hijabis I work with or the women and girls I see in my town (high Pakistani Muslim population) and I wondered if it was worn like that all the time or if it had just become loosened at school and fallen forward. Then I read all the other things and I just don't think I have enough tears.

Strangely the thing that really upsets me is the bins. My daughter is 10 and she's would struggle so much to move a wheelie bin as they are so tall and with 3 adults and 5 kids would have been so full. The mental image of a little girl struggling every week to do it (not one of the two fucking men in the house) makes me think her life was just so bleak for so long.

The plastic bag hood reminds me of the Wests who did something similar. And they all joined in or allowed it to happen. I hope they rot in prison for the rest of their

But he's in police custody isn't he? I was confused by this too.
Pretty sure they are on remand so he will have likely just gone back to the holding cell at the Court. It's happened in other cases, possibly in the Mark Gordon/Constance Marten case.
His tears mean nothing, he's crying because he's having to face the consequences of what he did and what he allowed to happen.

If you know social workers, you know how bad it is. The workload is totally impossible, all of the time.
Often in these cases you find that the violence escalates at some point just before the death, so whilst there may have been mistreatment or occasional violence ongoing for years, something causes it to leap to horrific levels kind of suddenly.
I do think people have to remember that it is the parents and caregivers fault. It’s sad that opportunities for the public, school, SS were missed, but not half as sad that her own father and his family did this.

I found this this has more information on the autopsy , I feel terrible for her
Her poor little body. Having met a couple of pathologists I know they will have treated her kindly even as they performed the autopsy, they will have had respect and care for her and it's so sad that she wasn't shown that by her own father and step mother when she was alive.
I am glad that her teacher could describe her a little and give us some idea of her personality and that she did have some joy in her life even briefly. I'm an atheist but I hope there is some sort of paradise afterlife for her.

well this is why you have cross-examination. All he is doing is ensuring he doesn’t get any mitigation on sentencing.
I just can’t believe he hit her as she was dying, the poor girl. He’s an absolute animal.
That’s the last thing he did. Probably her last conscious experience on this earth was being beaten by her own father. She died knowing only cruel things would ever happen to her.

I really hope that what comes out of this, and other cases recently, is that we as a society stop being afraid of asking difficult questions when it comes to other cultures. It’s a huge problem for services when dealing with travellers, for example, and immigrants from different cultures to ours. IMO we are too afraid of being accused of racism or intolerance. I also hope that it shines a torch on children being taken out of school to be homeschooled. Before anyone shouts at me, I completely understand why would want to, and I have no issue with the concept of it, but it does leave children vulnerable to abuse and they become hidden. There’s been a few big abuse cases over the past few years where the children have either been taken out to be homeschooled or were not at school due to lockdown.

Every single thing that’s shared from the trial, I read in disbelief.

I say to myself that it cannot possibly get worse.

And then it does.

The stepmother is the biological mother of the four youngest children. Sara wasn't taken out of school to be "home-schooled", more than likely the reason she was removed from school was because the stepmother wanted "help" in the home. The poor girl was a domestic slave and the stepmother inflicted the majority of the violence, as evidenced by her refusal for the dental examination (an accused should not have the right of refusal!).

Sorry if this has been posted, so he's admitted to a lot of things but he isn't admitting burning or biting her. We know the bite marks weren't him because it's been proven so that leaves the other two. The burns could've been provided by an iron but it wasn't tested for some reason. Is he really the reason she died that night? Did he inflict those injuries or did BB? I can't get over how awful this whole thing is, the pain Sara suffered for god knows how long is awful to think about.
There was that much abuse I think it’s entirely possible they don’t know which one of the two of them inflicted the worst injuries that led to her death.
