The only one who’s level of involvement I’m a bit dubious about atm is the brother but that’s not to say he isn’t guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child because there’s no way he could be living under the same roof and not know what had been happening to his niece.
If it was learned behaviour from the grandfather, the uncle may have (wrongly) turned a blind eye to protect his own safety.

Batool's barrister says that US essentially groomed her because she was young and extremely vulnerable when he met her.
US committed the violent offences on the Polish women when he was in UK on a student visa (not sure if that is still his visa or whether her has permanent residency, presume the latter). Before gaining custody of Sara he could only visit her supervised at a contact centre. Sara would shout at him to 'go away'.
When all this is over I really hope that a serious (and non-racist!) public conversation is had about insular immigrant communities which keep their women hidden and separated from UK civic life and abuse them.

It specifically says you shouldn't hit someone in the face yet there is a video of US repeatedly slapping Sara's face!
It is a cultural problem. A bit off topic but relevant, we had a doctor at work who opened my eyes to this. New doctors usually accept advice from the nurses on policy and procedure etc as they are just passing through whereas we build our careers on that ward/speciality. He would not listen to any female member of staff and expected us to fetch and carry for him. One day he was ranting on the ward because a colleague had called at his house (to drop off gifts from his household) when he was out and his wife had to answer the door to a man. This was an educated man who had lived in the UK for years and was quite far along in his surgical training. This and other incidents meant he wasn’t kept on the team and I dread to think of wherever he ended up working.
The uncle, I think, should face harsh punishment. I get the impression he was only bothered about himself and having somewhere to stay so he could do his course and his job without forking out for accommodation as well. I don’t know why he meekly followed US back to the UK when he could have just gone off the radar in Pakistan, maybe pressure from the family? Or thinking he could clear his name if he didn’t hit Sara so he could then carry on as if nothing had happened? Selfish little weasel.

I’ve read somewhere that this has changed a lot in the prison population. Women and child killers are no longer ostracised because of the general shift towards misogyny in this country, the influence of Tate fandom, etc. I hope I’m wrong!
Hmmm I'd like to see the research behind this article. Not doubting you at all @MedeaWho but prison is like a fossilisation of culture 'on the outside' and attitudes change incredibly slowly.
Apparently there's always been an element of tacit sympathy inside for men who killed their missus because she 'cheated on him' - 'I just snapped and saw red, she was making a mug of me'.

I think he's not bright enough to be playing a game. If you look at the quotes of what he said before the break was called, he stated that he took full responsibility for Sara's death as he laid it out in the note he left with her body.* So I think, in his tiny bigoted benighted mind, he thinks that he can verbally take responsibility but still somehow convince the jury that he didn't mean to kill her and didn't step outside of reasonable bounds in punishing her.
His barrister obviously talked some sense back into him during the break. But BB's barrister must be literally SINGING in her soul.
They are ALL bleeping numbnut pea-brained sadistic foul monsters who did not deserve a child as innocent and pure as Sara to even come within their sightline let alone be 'looked after' by them.
*This part is slightly complicated by the fact that earlier this week he claimed that BB told him what to write in the note.
He's ridiculously stupid to say on the stand that he is responsible for her death but then won't change his plea. Obviously his lawyer has advised him not too and to let the jury hear the rest of the evidence but his lawyer must be thinking you stupid duck, you don't admit that. Now the jury know he's beaten her etc as "punishment" but that's not punishment, that's brutal abuse. He might not have murdered her on that specific date but he contributed to it and the jury know that now too. I think he's made a big mistake.
In regards to BB being a victim and her being young when she must US, that is a shame because he probably abused her too BUT she had every opportunity to speak out, to run away etc but she didn't, she let it happen and probably contributed towards it. Sara was let down by all of them, she didn't want to submit dental impressions which speaks volumes.

He could have plead guilty to Causing or Allowing the Death of a Child though, which he’s also charged with.
Oh yes I totally agree but the question that was asked was on the murder plea.

Well he could have changed either, he has pled not guilty to both charges. He’s now being tied in knots by BBs KC because he’s admitted he intended to seriously hurt Sara and when it’s pointed out that’s an admission of murder, he’s saying he didn’t. He’s just a bleeping idiot.
