As a state schooler who went to an RG I’ve found this to be true! As I’ve gone through uni and into the workplace I’ve really realised how key confidence is and it honestly makes all the difference having been supported in your school life because those things stick with you.

I built my confidence during uni and in jobs I’ve had since and during but I’ve got close friends who went to boarding school and those who went to private and they just have a confidence when applying for jobs they’re (sorry!) not qualified for, going for promotions, questioning tutors at uni, bosses at work... they believed they could be or do anything and more times than not they’ve got the promotion or new job because they know how to sell themselves and BE confident- they’re doing amazingly career wise because they had the confidence to go for it.

I’m not saying it’s as black and white as that (also not having a go at anyone, just noting what I saw) but at my crappy state school no teacher ever told me I could even go to uni (I now have two degrees and have had a good career so far too). I could talk about this all day but just goes to show the advantages and privileges people have without even knowing it.

This is really interesting! I went to private school for a short while and had the complete opposite experience. It completely crippled my confidence and heightened my social anxiety. The abundance confidence from others during lessons was so overwhelming it made me feel worthless, and I felt so guilty for being in such a privileged position that I wasn't utilising as I never spoke in class.

What do you guys this about the caption on her post on Instagram? I found it so ironic. This is exactly what we talk about here. She works so hard and such long hours daily, but can’t make a dent in any of her work because she doesn’t know how to be efficient. Like at all. Whenever I watch her videos, I feel like she does such useless stuff: re-reading the same texts 20 times over, rewriting drafts a million times, going over the set word limit by thousands of words...She’s wasting her own time and doesn’t even realize it. All the hours of unnecessary research she does aren’t even reflected in her vocabulary or general knowledge. You’d think that someone who studies for 12 hours a day for years and years would be noticeably more intellectual than their peers, but she just seems like an average girl?

Hey all! Long time lurker here. I often see you post about Ruby's private schooling and I was wondering if you would genuinely judge / hold it against someone if they went through private education? For example, if someone acted completely 'normal' (whatever that means) and was aware of their privilege, yet still went to private school, would you hold it against them?

Not at all. I went to an international school that would be considered pretty good to at least the average school in Australia. My parents made me very aware of my privilege and what it cost them. I'm about to finish my masters law degree and my overarching goal is to make the legal system more accessible for those who really need it and hopefully substantially improve lives that way. I like to think that I turned out okay despite this early privilege.

That poetry recitation made me laugh and I kind of loved it. I like seeing Ruby doing weird things with some measure of passion instead of studying or drinking tea for hours on end. The inner theatre kid jumped out

She likes reading which is why she's doing English. I don't feel like she actually likes the analytical aspects of English though, she just wants to read nice stories as escapism.

I agree, I also think it fits with her 'bookworm' aesthetic. When I saw she changed courses, I thought she would actually start doing more content around English literature but she hasn't done much at all on it, and when she talks about books it feels very shallow, she mainly says stuff like "I didn't like this book that much" but doesn't actually explain much about why. Not much in depth thought or critical thinking there. I've never felt she's had a true passion for it.

I like Ruby but I also wonder how she will/would function in a regular office environment or a stressful day job where she can't choose to stick to her bubble. She's quite rigid about her lifestyle. I think she would do well in academia but commanding a class and being able to teach are very different skills compared to just being knowledgeable and enjoying learning. I had a professor in uni who was one of the top people in his subject but could not teach for shit. We all hated his class.

I do sympathise with Ruby in this case! I was fine being home alone and in my first year of uni I was in halls so there were always people around. However, in my second year of uni when I was in a house with my friends, I hated being home alone. My bedroom was right at the back of the house on the first floor, my house was cold and draughty meaning I constantly thought the sound of the heating was an intruder I don’t drink tea or coffee so I can’t even imagine how much more that would be heightened with caffeine running through your system. I hope she’s okay and seeks help if she needs it!

I’ve realised there isn’t much of a point to this post, just sharing my experience

Yeah that fits terribly! The sides are supposed to be flat on your face, gaps like that mean the mask is ineffective.

I think that’s the first time she has worn that mask, probably, as she spent all summer at home (good, fair enough) and only went out to shops when she got back to uni. I want to like Ruby but I can’t help thinking this ad is a bit silly.

Does anyone know if Ruby has ever mentioned if she can drive? That's something a lot of teenagers long to be able to do, but I have never seen her behind the wheel nor mentioning that she has driven herself anywhere.

I don't think it's overly usual not to, I was 24 when I passed because I didn't need a car when I was 17-24.

I think Ruby is a really sweet girl but I do cringe at some of what she does. I think she tries too hard to be old fashioned and it just doesn’t feel authentic to her. She is only 20 though and I suppose still trying to find her identity. The contrast between her and Martha is hilarious though.

Don't know anyone else who's accidentally uploaded drafts / got upload times wrong / forgot to edit titles more than once... and she's done each like 20 times (not to mention how late and out of order all her videos are)
