Another English Literature graduate here, I definitely never spent that much time studying. It's more list making for the sake of it. I would be interested to see what she is like in seminars.
I would put money on her being the type of student who asks excessive amounts of questions, doesn't let anyone get a word in edge-wise, and constantly thinks her insights are the most valuable.
to be fair to ruby, she actually got 75, 85 and 95 in her seminar participations (i was also surprised, i must admit it, you can take a look at it in this video)

i know that she has a very odd system for making notes, however with those grades, i think she must have made very acute observations to her professors, what do you guys think?

Just watched Marfas covid video...feel like I need a lie down

Cannot believe they're related! I actually thought Marfa was adopted for a while because she never called their mum, 'mum' but her name instead and they don't even look similar
Also, she's behind, and hasn't been going to seminars and she's not even 2 months into her course...hope her parent's didn't pay for uni out of their pockets 🤭
I’m surprised she’s moved back home though, it did seem like she was getting on well with her flat mates - especially compared to how Ruby is around other people

Ok I really want to know what the posts that were deleted are 😅

I really like Ruby, I found her at the same time as I discovered Eve Bennett and Anastasia K so I just liked how different she was. I find her videos relaxing to listen to when I’m getting ready for work (though it’s been a few months!)

Is anyone part of her book club on Facebook? It’s the most disorganised thing which is funny considering how organised she is!

Bet he's seething in a corner thinking: "If they'd accepted me into Oxford, I'd be doing so much better now!" I wonder if Ruby thinks the same - if she'd gone to Oxford, her videos would have been more aesthetic.
I was thinking about this yesterday as I was doing chores (lol i need think about other things it seems)... I can imagine if she got in she would really push the dark academia aesthetic by walking around in boaters and pigtails, wearing a leather satchel and doing study with me videos in the Oxford libraries with a candle. I like a bit of that vibe but I can imagine her going a bit theatrical with it. I do feel for her that her dream didn’t happen though. I wonder how she feels about Eve being there, and I bet Ruby would probably know friends from her school there too.

And she's released an academic planner, how original 😂🙄
I just had a look at her Instagram, those rings in the bind are huge? How is that in anyway practical? Maybe times I have changed but I used to take mine everywhere at uni so I couldn’t forget anything, that would just get in the way in your bag?

This is more trivial but she claims to be a massive Harry Potter fan but can’t pronounce the name of the play correctly!!! It’s cursed not cursaid (that’s how she pronounces it or that’s how it sounds)?

She definitely buys into the whole ‘dark academia’ aesthetic a bit too much without acknowledging that it’s problematic, especially since she is very obviously established middle class
What even is this whole dark academia thing? she’s talked about it before but only when she puts a few pictures on her wall

University of Leicester did the same though, and they're only really a mid-ranked uni. Definitely within the 'average' bracket.
I go to the University of Leicester! They have cancelled a load of courses for this year though so it may simply be that they now can offer people places/accommodation purely because a load of courses aren’t running now. They’ve cancelled my course for first years which sucks 😭 (I’ve just finished second year).

Ruby wouldn't have been old enough to vote in the EU referendum, as she only would have been about 16 years old in 2016, and you had to be 18 years old to vote in the referendum. Maybe her family voted Brexit though, so she didn't want to address it.
Damnn I didn’t realize that, makes it even weirder she blocked me off her live then

Jesus Christ she looks like a mourning Victorian widow.
I understand the look she’s often trying to achieve, but she really doesn’t pull it off successfully
Because she still can't part with her inner Peter Pan. Personal style can be a rocky road and she's still very young but I believe she would look really great in Edwardian inspired blouses, vintage jumpers and 40s day dresses/slacks. Her current combo seems a bit confused rather than eclectic.

A lot of nice-looking planners are expensive so Ruby is not the only one charging these prices but still.... most of her audience seems to be young and still financially dependent on their parents. She should have considered that while pricing them. Personally, I won't be getting one because of the shipping cost to mainland Europe but that's probably out of Ruby's control

She makes extra work for herself. I admittedly didn't go to Exeter, but I've just graduated from my undergraduate degree at another Russell Group uni and whilst it is a lot of work, it's quite easily managed and I had tonnes of time to do extracurriculars and have a social life. I think she's just determined to keep up this facade that she studies all day every day so she makes it sound like she's sooooo busy studying all the time.
Thanks for the clarity 😊

I like ruby but I don't understand the obsession with constantly studying.

You worry how she'll be when she leaves education. We all saw how the rejection from Oxford effected her greatly for a long time.

I'm in the same region as Exeter, and it is pretty bad there - I think the university has managed to keep it quiet and let Manchester get all the negative attention.
Ah, thank you. I've not really been keeping track of cases this week, too much information overload.

Me too! I found I actually made better notes based on the class discussion and people making points based on my ideas than if I'd made pages worth of notes myself beforehand. Seems like a waste of time to me. And when Ruby and her flatmate set aside time to discuss the text together before the seminar it seems like a way to fill up time but maybe that's just me as I don't like group study.
She seems to be spending a lot of time discussing uni work with her flat mate, it’s like she can’t talk about anything else. But with the notes thing, I tend to make brief notes on the reading and points I might want to talk about and then ‘neat’ notes after the discussion with everything together. It seems like Ruby makes it harder for herself by making multiple sets of notes when really at the most you need messy class notes and neater notes written up later.

I don't see how they're comparable, one is renting during a unforeseen pandemic and one is just causing a bit less waste and getting the most out of a product.
But she’s renting and not living there!! That’s the biggest waste of money ever, and she could have stayed home from the start, it was her choice to move to uni knowing the risks

It doesn’t seem that people have very long to pre-order the planner before it closes and then that’s it, no future chance to order. What if some kids are waiting for their parents’ payday or something. It’s like 3 days only...

Most YouTubers would just scrap the footage/heavily re-edit it if their situation changed as hers did.

The only reason I can think of for journaling about coronavirus (apart from anxiety) is for posterity - perhaps she hopes her diaries will be published in some form one day.
I don’t usually write a diary (I presume that’s what journaling is?) but I have kept one about covid since March. I love history and wanted to write something for my nieces and nephews so if they ever want to know what it was like for our particular family, they have a source 🙂 I don’t do it every day, only really when I think of something notable.

This might be ignorant of me, so apologies if I come off as shallow but did she pick RS as an A level subject and then Theology as her first degree because she's religious? I vaguely remember her mentioning she's an atheist but I don't know if I made this up.

This isn't to judge her either way, it's not my business at all, but I found it interesting that she's chosen these in the past as focus points as a person who doesn't seemingly practice religion apart from her academic studies.
