A lot of nice-looking planners are expensive so Ruby is not the only one charging these prices but still.... most of her audience seems to be young and still financially dependent on their parents. She should have considered that while pricing them. Personally, I won't be getting one because of the shipping cost to mainland Europe but that's probably out of Ruby's control

Not only that, as someone mentioned above she should have given warning for pre orders. I mean, the video announcing it went up half hour after they started. Some peoples parents may not get paid until the end of the month, which means they'll have missed out.
Just another case of Ruby not realising her privilege in my opinion - to not consider that people may not be able to afford £16 right now

The triple lock was announced the day before results day, ofqual (the exams regulator has 0 idea) you can only contest grades if you think your school has messed up (it costs £190 if it doesn’t get moved) and some students grades got moved down 3 grades and over 21,000 pupils were given U grades (ungraded) for exams they didn’t sit

As someone who is very sensitive to caffeine, watching Ruby drink all that tea is giving me a headache. Maybe she only goes for caffeine-free varieties? I know she's a small thing so it must affect her if she's caffeinated all day long. Certainly wouldn't help your nerves (with regards to the paranoia about intruders).

I haven’t read her book/s? but remember that the general consent on here (and GG) was that her writing was quite shocking for someone not only studying English but also the amount she seems to read in general.

I do think however she could be somewhat successful due to her audience. She’ll just need this to get picked up by a publisher and then they’ll do most of the marketing. She won’t win any literary prizes though...

I tried reading the preview of her one about the bullying to my boyfriend as a bedtime story for a laugh and we literally couldn’t get through it, like I’m dyslexic and make mistakes all the time so I’m not one to talk, but the writing was like it was written by a 12 year old.
The grammar was bad, there was spelling mistakes, the plot made no sense at all and it was just full of these really long descriptions of stuff (like for example an entire page literally just describing the weather all full of similes and whatnot). Also it was like reading a thesaurus, too many complicated ‘intelligent sounding’ words just thrown all over the place, used completely wrong and it made it confusing to read.
Plus the main character was actually horrible, she basically just looked down on everyone and thought everyone at her school was stupid etc. weird book, I’d defo recommend reading the preview, although apparently she actually edited it a few months ago and changed a bunch of stuff so I’m not sure it’ll be the same as it originally was when I read it

Exactly! Imo she's just using it as an excuse to stay at home, she clearly prefers being at home (shes said this quite a few times). Which is weird, she's a 20 year old woman, I don't get why she hasn't grown up and got a bit of independence yet?

This supports my thoughts about her trying to cosy up to her lecturers and be their 'friend'. I also feel that she probably doesn't expect her peers to be as insightful as she is, so doesn't necessarily value their contributions.

I can absolutely picture her making noise complaints all the time - let's face it, Ruby isn't the most flexible of people, nor someone who would hesitate to remind people of the rules (at least indirectly!). Other people are outside of her control (whether they are annoying her by simply being young/a typical student, or getting better marks than her), and I think that will always bother her.

I 100% agree with this! She's a very rigid person in many ways, as evidenced by her minute-by-minute timetabling. She defo had very close relationships with her teachers at school (I suppose partly due to the tiny class sizes) and seems to speak about them more often than any friends her own age. So I think she is trying to replicate that at uni - I seem to remember her saying that she wrote Christmas cards to her seminar leaders!

Also, take this with a pinch of salt as I can't be 100% certain that it's her, but I'm pretty sure I saw Blakeney a few days ago when I was out for a walk in Exeter. If it was her, then I hope she's okay with Ruby being gone! Perhaps it wasn't her, or maybe a friend of hers temporarily took Ruby's place in the house, but regardless I feel bad for her if she was left there alone

I'd say her family's accent is a mix of Southern British Standard (common in the South of England generally) and Hertfordshire (which may be close to where they live, not sure of their location). Ruby's accent is a lot closer to Upper Received Pronunciation (what people would call the Queen's English or a 'posh' accent). That's why it's so jarring when she mispronounces words, but you don't expect it from someone with her accent/sound system.

She’s always sounded like she’s faking an Emma Watson/Hermione accent to me because she does sound so different from the rest of her family. It’s weird, like she’s been doing it so many years her voice just got stuck on it. I can’t imagine her enunciating that way as a little kid.

Who would like working in the cold?? Sitting by an open window on a late-October UK evening is such a no for me lmao. Maybe it just helps her replicate the feeling of being a Victorian child using her quill by candlelight with a constant draft coming in.

I didn't even know "candle meditation" was a thing. I've unknowingly done it several times... basically just zoning out while watching a candle flame. I feel like making it a thing you have to do ruins the organic beauty of the moment.

Also, just did some power poses. Did nothing for me. Maybe it's a response you have to build up over time. I felt like I should have been waving my arms or dancing or something lol. Actually, a little dance in the morning is good fun. Let loose Ruby, do a morning jig. Shake things up

When I see videos like 11 hour study day it honestly just makes me think these people have poor time management? I understand doing it for your school exams when you have loads of subjects but I did an English degree like Ruby (and got a first) and I think I'd genuinely find it hard to fill 11 hours with work unless I had a big assignment due or an exam soon. I studied a lot but also had a part time job, saw friends etc. The 11 hour study day doesn't make much sense to me on an English degree as there's lots of reading but barely any class time and probably not as much continuous assessment as other subjects.

Ruby seems to spend a lot of time making lists/timetables and making everything into work like printing out photos for her wall. Maybe she's just being super organised but I'm an organised person too and I just don't get it!

I don’t even feel like it was 11 hours of actually sitting down and studying. Like making timetables and lists might be “productive” but it doesn’t actually contribute that much towards your studies

i'm in uni in england but my family and my home is back in Wales. this is my first year at uni and i have never lived alone. i havent seen my parents since beginning of september, and i would love to go back home but i cant as my teaching is face to face and online. i think we all cope differently with things. some days i am completely fine, but last night i had a breakdown because i missed my family so much. i guess it just depends how you cope with your emotions. i understand that she is privileged in a sense that she can go home and others cannot, but it all comes down to Ruby and her mental health.

i dont think she is aware of her privilege? to a certain extent she is, but after that i think she's just unaware which is really weird considering how 'smart' she seems to be, and how much she reads etc.

I just watched that video where she’s mad about noise but that’s what it’s like in student flats!! And she said it was only 10:30 - that’s not really awful, in my halls they say noise after 11 is not acceptable. It just sounded like her flat mates were talking (as is expected in uni flats!!) she should try living in my flat where 2 of the lads started screaming at each other at 3am and had to call security

Omg I lived next to a pair of guys at uni and one of them would always forget their keys and literally would bang on the door (sometimes not even his own lol) at 2am. #unilife

... sorry to stay off topic but HOW can this be legal?! If my kid was predicted A*A*A* and got dropped down to Bs and Cs I would sue the heck out of everyone who was responsible.

People are appealing on mass, there are petitions to get it changed, and I have actually seen on Twitter that some law firms are asking students to reach out to them, so I think it's very possible that we might end up seeing some legal action.
