dryads are also from greek mythology, not scottish. tbh that has me side eyeing both ruby and the author - was there any research done into scottish folklore or is this just another case of ruby being an idiot and making things up about a book she hasn’t read?
I haven't read the book, but I did search the ebook for any instance of the word 'dryad'. Zero results, so Ruby pulled that word herself.

I doubt she read the book at all. It's also conspicuously missing from her Goodreads. I imagine she just reworded the promotional blurb she got from the publisher but took a few too many liberties without doing any research into either the book or Scottish history/folklore. Yet again, she tries to seem smart and well-read and calls attention to how dumb and lazy she is.

Not only is it an embarrassing non-review full of errors, she did her usual thing of forgetting to advertise the gifted product until way too late. She got an advance proof copy, so she's had this for a while before the book was released, but waited until a month and a half after the release date to bother pretending to read it.

Entirely different topic, but I wonder what Miss Literary Genius would make of GarbAugust, where people read trash fiction for a month! I came across this reading challenge yesterday and I have to admit, I love the idea! 🤣

Brace yourselves, we have a Matilda themed video, sponsored by Nord V.P. Anne. Matilda and Miss Honey both suffer from constipation, it seems.

watched on 1.5x speed and was too bored after 6 minutes to continue (but to be fair it’s just not something i’m that interested in…)

struck by how her bedroom looks *particularly* childish in this video. i know many perfectly well adjusted adults own soft toys but it looks like a baby’s first nursery

edit: plus frequent changes in outfit/location when it’s the type of video that normally would just be filmed at once..?

Her newest video is an absolute train wreck. She has spliced tougher four different videos and cuts between them constantly. She also constantly rambles about irrelevant things (I guess to show off her knowledge). The video absolutely impossible to follow. She’s also constantly repeating herself - she only makes one point in the whole 15 minute video: rote memorisation is bad and self-teaching is good (which is ironic as rote memorisation is all she does). She says binaries usually aren’t useful and yet that’s exactly what she does in the video. It’s so ridiculously surface-level; there’s no critical thinking or nuance at all.

Ruby showing how she’s Oxford material by crapping out a visual high school essay in which she desperately tries to overintellectualise a book for children while pretending she's a child.

duck me. 16 minutes wanging on about the problems with the education system in the UK and not a single mention of the current teaching strike, the ongoing chronic shortage of teachers and the blatant disparities in access to education between different regions of the country.
Probably one of the most out of touch videos I’ve seen from her tbh.

I saw it come up on recommendations. Totally skipping it. I am sick to death of her! Her moronic behaviour is just beyond words.

She just wanted to have a way to talk about her favourite film, I think. 😅 I came straight here after watching the video.

I really dislike that computer click noise she uses when showing Nord VEE PEE ANNE, or screenshots from online literary sources, or between her cuts.

How many outfit changes?! Also her nail colour changes, so she must have taken ages to film this 😅

“THAT’S LITERALLY MARRRRRRRRKSCHEEEEEMES”. :ROFLMAO:

Once again, Ruby has provided entertainment.

fave soundbite: ”I know this is all obvious, but that’s the point”

WHY ARE YOU INFLICTING THIS VIDEO UPON THE WORLD THEN?

I can’t with this. I’m only as far as Miss Trunchbull’s ‘militant’ outfit (I think you mean military, Rubes) and my head hurts. What is the point of this video? What point is Ruby trying to make? What relevance does this have to anything that Ruby is doing? Is this prep for her ‘why I only lasted a week in my ’teaching‘ job’ video, or is she already prepping an excuse for her ‘why I didn’t get the highest possible grade in my Masters’ video? Of course, it’s the while education system that’s wrong for our Ruby!

Also, I’m assuming that our Victorian lit fan doesn’t make any reference to Gradgrind and Hard Times?

Noone asked for the video, it seems so random, as though she was bursting to talk about her favourite film and came up with a way to try to sound academic about it.

I would pay good money to be a fly on the wall of her Oxford tutorials to see how her peers/tutors react to her drivel.

I see people in the comments are saying that they found the video hard to follow due to the constant changing of clips I mean why didn't she just re-record the video as it would have made more sense to. As a result the whole video is actually quite cringeworthy to watch due to the constant changing of clips and I have no idea why she did this video as it isn't relevant to the course that she is doing at Oxford and it just seems like she is trying to prove what is wrong with the education system in both Matilda and the UK.

I have no idea why she did this video
Nord V.P. Anne was offering a sponsorship and she thought she’d make a bit of easy cash by droning on about her favourite children’s book for 15 minutes. No need to do more than phone it in as her rabid fans will make sure any and all criticism of her sloppy ass gets shut down pdq.

I mean I havent watched or read Matilda, and I had difficulty following any argument in the video if there was one. But it feels like Ruby presents the most obvious point of the book as if it's something she just discovered. Feels like someone being absolutly pleased with themselfes for "discovering" that Charles Dickens criticised capitalist society when its legit the one thing most pple know about his books without even having read them.

Oxford can really look forward the insights into literature Ruby is gonna bring to the table..
