Blurring this for whining but srsly I’m on page 57 and I feel like I’m getting nowhere… until I remind myself I’m also trying to simultaneously get through War and Peace, Tristram Shandy, and fucking Ulysses (and a full-time job where downsizing is about to take place and I have no idea if I’ll have a job at all in two weeks lol) Anyway, everyone get your superheated maize kernels ready for when she gives her review, I think we know in our heart of hearts that it’s going to be a whimsical dark macadamia story taking place at OXFORD and there’s a cool magical element and colonialism… what’s a “colonialism”?

There's no working weekends in Ruby's mind. No shift work, no night shifts, no 5-7 day working weeks, no irregular shift patterns, no working multiple jobs. There's no stress, no work dread, no overwhelming workloads or unbearable coworkers or managers, no children or family to take care of, no errands to do, no housework to juggle alongside work. If it hasn't happened to her, she simply can't imagine it, and in her sheltered little bubble, there's precious little that she's actually experienced.

Ruby apparently figured out that no teachers follow her or have any interest in putting trash like this in their students' hands.

Honestly, I don’t think she ever did actually intense exercise. She only goes for walk, pretends to run, does few yoga poses or trampoline jumps and that’s it. It’s barely any exercise.

This is so blatantly staged, too Why would you even pretend to put your shower cap on before taking your shirt off?

And I agree, I doubt she breaks a sweat with all her ”exercise”.

Molly was as fake as Ruby and possibly even more unhinged. At least Ruby is consistent in her bizarre personality and style. Molly would just delete all her videos and rebrand as an entirely new person every few months, usually skinwalking as another youtuber she admired and copying all their content. I’m surprised she’s stayed away from social media this long this time, I don’t think she deleted because she was unwell, I think she was just busy at Oxford and her videos were embarrassing. I wouldn’t be surprised if her and Ruby meet up.

Ruby seems to be evermore morphing herself into an Edwardian children's book character. Her attire, the words she uses, her voice and her mannerisms. It's all so fake, twee and frankly weird to the point it makes me cringe & feel uncomfortable.

I've gone from a scathing response to a pity response with respect to Rubes books. It's all so pitiful. If the character Erimentha mirrors Ruby's own character, reflects her own thought process and represents experiences or interactions she had then my main emotion towards her is, as I wrote here, pity. If you're having trouble sleeping I guess a good place to start is having a good bedtime routine however I wonder if one of Ruby's problems is not a poor routine leading to poor sleep but poor nutrition.
I'm not body shaming her as I'm not exactly the holder of the title "the body beautiful" but I have my personal view & concern that she is underweight even for her body type. I think she is tired & lacking energy because I don't think she eats enough. If she wants to go to Oxford and she gets in well good for her except I'm not sure it will be good for her and she seems unwell to me. If I were her I'd defer it a year and work on on health and well being; physical and mental. She seems a lost, lonely and sad soul to me and while I don't warm to her at all and I think any study tuber is at risk in causing harm to vulnerable youngsters I don't like the thought of anyone being lost, lonely & sad. Having said all that she seems so much the architect of her own difficulties and I find her infuriating.

Erimentha Parker Chapter 9 (turns out the last two chapters were both called Chapter 8) - Not much actually happens in this chapter but we are treated to some amazing quotes

Plot -
- Ruby reads through all the emails sent to her from older students and staff calling her rude and inappropriate
- She looks at her sent emails and sees there have been lots of emails sent to students and teachers. This included telling someone they look like a pig, "a horrible photography of a bloody scar" and an email to Miss Solomon saying she is her best friend in the whole wide world
- Ruby is horrified, not only because these are unformal and humiliating. She decides not to tell her parents and just cries
- The next day at school Ruby goes to find her form tutor to explain she didn't send the emails. They talk to another teacher. The teachers also agree to not tell Ruby's parents (this would never happen in real life, they would have a duty to tell the parents wouldn't they?)

I don't even know why she would be learning Latin other than to appear smart and for the Dark academia aesthetic. Admittedly, I do a bit of Latin here and there but I study early modern history and I have a use for it. I don't know if she likes learning, I think she only likes it to fill in the gaps of her day to justify staying at home, as it looks a bit more socially acceptable to stay at home if you are studying. Plus the studying gives her reasons not to go out and it's an excuse for her to stay shut up in her room all day

For Ruby it's purely for the aesthetic and the fact that she can hold it over peoples heads.

She did the same thing with her morning bible readings a few months ago. A couple videos back (morning routine #763) she started The Book of Genesis because she wanted to read through the entire bible because she wanted to further understand biblical literary references and pointed out how culturally important it was/is (both of which are very Eurocentric ways of viewing it Roobee but I digress). Ruby wouldn't be caught dead studying subject matters that weren't worthy/advanced/prestigious enough and most importantly must fit into the dark macadamia aesthetic.

A bit OT but Ruby is apparently reading Babel (I know some have touched on this in the threads and I wanted to add to it). Her reading Babel is absolutely hilarious because she is going to view it as this amazing dark academia book which I guess it is in a way but it goes so much deeper than that. There is so much in Babel to unpack and it just skims the surface of the dangers of dark academia, elitism, colonialism, etc. But unfortunately all of that would go right over Rubys head and she would see it as nothing more than her dream life of studying at Oxford. Ruby is the (less intelligent) epitome of the character Letty and people like Letty who exist in todays world. Ugh if anyone has read Babel I would love chat because there's just so much to say but I'll leave it there for now.
