Even here she says “if you just want to sit in your university room it’s fine”… she’s really clinginggg to university :( or maybe she just wants to appeal to that audience

I’m really, really loving W&P. I’m taking it kind of slow and making notes, there’s just so MUCH there. It’s relevant on so many levels (the early descriptions of Russian war propaganda/strategy were honestly sending me, it’s like nothing’s changed in 220 years) and Tolstoy just goes so ruthlessly, painfully close to real, raw human thinking and emotion. I feel like you could probably find some aspect or likeness of every single person you’ve ever known in this book - to me, right now at least (halfway through vol. 2), it’s the sheer scope of human experience that’s just so astounding. It took a little while to find my bearings, but now that I feel I have a grip on all the main characters, I’m super invested. Also I want to say I’m fully prepared to have my heart broken, but I also feel like it’s going to come out of nowhere and hit me hard when that eventually happens.

And to make this even a little relevant to a Roobee thread, I feel the need to state I did, in fact, first plod through the words on the pages of this book at age TWALVE, but I will not claim that I understood any of it 😂
Thank you for this! I've been gradually working through some Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky, aiming to read W&P this or next month as I finally feel I'll be able to concentrate on it, and this is making me excited to start reading :')

OT but I just saw that Holly Gabrielle's last video is about how glad she is that she gained weight and overcame her ED. Let's hope Ruby will watch it

Also think she is underestimating how time consuming being an actual teacher is, even if she is only doing it part time she will have to make lesson plans, mark work, make power points, go to meetings and chase up students who were off/late she wont have time for her pointless busy work and 20 books she writing
She can just fake doing both like she's been faking her producktiveness this whole time!

Yeah exactly, and in the last clips she's back in the first outfit and says she leaves for work at 9am - to work in a school?? Like if that's true, this job she's got is cushier than I already imagined...
I know why is she leaving the house at 9am to work at the school she should be in by 7:30 at the latest as the period 1 starts at 9:20, so she comes into the school depending on how long it takes her mum to drive her before break starts. Surely she doesn't leave the house everyday at 9am on the days that she does work.
0830 Registration, 0840-0920 Period 1, 0920-1000 Period 2, 1000-1020 Break, 1020-1100 Period 3, 1100-1140 Period 4, 1140-1145 Movement Time, 1145-1225 Period 5, 1225-1330 Lunch, 1330-1410 Period 6, 1410-1420 Registration, 1420-1440 Form Time or Assembly, 1440-1520 Period 7, and 1520-1600 Period 8.

I think it is how a lot of people found Ruby tbh. I also think a bunch of people hopped on when the whole dark academia / Donna Tartt thing was super trendy during COVID. I admit I fell into her “academia” trap when one of her dark academia vids became popular. I’m not a “literature” person though (like RC Waldun, Jack Edwards, etc) but as a history student I found a lot of her stuff fascinating at first (the moldy trunk arc was what really got me to seek out if anyone else was taking about her :ROFLMAO:)
Laughing at the 'moldy trunk arc'. 😂

I discovered Ruby when I was looking for study tips. I'd developed my own revision methods in school, but wondered if there was another way of learning that was more efficient. So I was interested to hear from other students and maybe get some advice. Of course, Ruby's videos were of no use whatsoever! I did pick up a few tips from Holly Gabrielle but that's about it. I was very confused about the 12-hour study marathons. It was never something I tried to copy because it seemed so unnecessary and counterproductive.

It's interesting that many people on here seem to be into (classic) literature (myself included). Maybe that's how some of us discovered Ruby. I'd love to have another thread or separate forum to talk about books.
Hey, there is a reading chats thread! Link is here: https://tattle.life/threads/books-13-reading-chats.35895/
Ages ago, I suggested creating a book group (wanted to call it SparkGloats in honour of Ruby) and another poster directed me here instead. The discussion is mostly about contemporary fiction, but classic literature is fine too.

Funny anecdote: My 18 year old cousin was here the other day when I was watching the latest Roob video about the book. He asked me who is that? And as a joke I said 'the girl of your dreams'. He said 'eeeew she's like 13 thats gross'. I told him her actual age and he said 'no way!' 🤣
Lol, I have an anecdote too. I was babysitting Small Human and he put his chubby baby hands over the screen (this is how screens get sticky). I asked ''don't you like Ruby?'' and he said ''no no ooob'' so I switched to In the Night Garden (see profile pic for more info) - he started bobbing around happily once Ruby disappeared. And to be perfectly honest the plotless psychedelia of In the Night Garden still made more sense than Ruby's video.

Regardless of how we feel about Roobee and the quality of her videos, and in spite of the way she has ruined The Nutcracker for us, let’s at least be grateful she’s no longer using the music starting at 2:42 in this video:

Ok, well that was so much worse than I expected. I knew the music would end eventually, but it took so long! 😂 I don't know what that tune is, but it's very Game Boy circa 1995.

Since nothing is happening, let me share a totally OT Roobee moment I had yesterday.
Background: 1) I’m trying to finally finish Special Operation and Peace by That Russian Guy. 2) I have a cat who needs to be medicated daily for 5-6 weeks and we’re on day 8, no one’s loving it.

So, long story short, I got rather badly bitten by my PARFACKT little angel yesterday and had to go to A&E (walking distance and next to the supermarket). I brought a book, expecting to have to wait all evening. Fun fact, cat bites are apparently super dangerous and my tetanus wasn’t up to date, so they took me in past an entire waiting-room-ful of sneezy coughy people, and I got my shot and antibiotics and was out of there in five minutes flat. Elated, I decided to do a little food shop since I now had all this time - but alas, once I got all my groceries, my backpack could no longer accommodate my book (it was between the book and 2kg of potatoes lol). I had to walk home holding SO&P, but no one saw me (it was dark and there were no people anyway) and ofc we can’t have that, so I took a very Roobee photo for my insta stories that prominently featured said book. Felt like a bookish child genius and an unspeakable fraud all at the same time, which I imagine is all in a day’s work for little miss bookwahrm.

She’s really not been posting much. I imagine the impending ”traditional job” is quite anxiety-inducing after being holed up in her childhood bedroom for so long.
Hope you (and the cat) get better soon!

someone should Ruby send an electric lighter. They are really good and easy to use (but I doubt she can light a candle with that outside in the wind, too).

btw. I'm currently trying to edit a video. As you know, I'm applying for jobs at the moment and one application said that they want to have a video cover letter. I filmed myself with my iPhone and now I'm trying to cut the video because I made some mistakes while speaking. So I want to cut bits (I made sure to make pauses when I recognised my mistakes so I can cut and stich this together). I use Final Cut (I bought it for my father with my student discount and I never use it, but I thought the video cover letter would be a good thing to try video editing again. You know, for when I'm becoming a famous youtuber) and I feel a bit overwhelmed. I'm not bad at computer stuff, but cutting/editing a video is ... difficult?! I see why Ruby is so sloppy with her editing.

As far as I can remember, someone called her out on the board not making any sense, and she replied with something about ”this is just staged for the photo, we only play chess at night” 😂 In the dark? Where no one can see?
I don't want to know what's going on at their house at night :ROFLMAO:

Wow, thank you so much! I'm genuinely chuffed you took the time to find that for me. Thanks for going out of your way 🙂
My husband is playing this right now and I had to think of you both 😆

I have not watched the video yet, but that's nothing unusual if she does part time. Which I think she said at some point. If you don't teach the first hour of a day, you just leave at like 9, and other days you might be teaching from 8 to 5 or whatever.
Can confirm. I was a social worker in a primary school, and even though it served a high needs population, it was the most wishy-washy job I've ever had. It's like that spinning like a ballerina tiktok trend. The teacher's barely had a spare moment to pee, dashing off the moment the bell rang, while me, the counsellor, and the speech therapist would be hanging out in the staff room for an extra twenty minutes, trying to decide whether or not we wanted to go on a leisurely stroll to buy lunch.

And we got paid more than the teachers too.

Provided you're not a teacher, a school job is pretty cushy.

I just assumed she's probably just not coping well with her school job.
Yeah I don't think she is coping well with her school job because in her latest YouTube video it was noticeable to me that the day after she had been at the school working she looked really tired and didn't seem to be her normal happy self.

Ruby & Holly were always close together at the back of the pack with respect to maturity.
Ruby is having playtime in her parents van and cosplaying as a child

Holly is/was getting dicked down and talking about how she is craving physical intimacy

wonder what Ruby makes of it
Yeah I was wondering what Ruby was making of the latest from Holly. But intimacy seems to be a topic she only speaks about in disapproving tones.

I think our of all the UK studytubers Ruby is the least grown up out of all of them, the majority of them came from a very wealthy background and were continually supported throughout their studies and uni applications all landing themselves in top unis (minus Jade). Alongside having the luxury of not needing to work alongside their academics nor needing to worry about if their degree will be able to land them a job or not.

At least with the likes of Jade and Holly they’ve travelled the world and have gained a lot of independence from doing such. Jack moved to Paris I believe which itself is a huge life change. Vee moved out and lives herself, Lydia seems to be enjoying uni whilst maiming a social life and as someone else mentioned, Paige is purposely carving out a financially stable career for herself and eve seems to be settling into life also.

Whilst none of them are perfect and their privileges have obviously gave them a head start in life against others, they’ve all at least made an attempt or start at growing up and becoming adults. Ruby just seems to have regressed into this odd childhood state becoming more dependent on her parents. She redecorated her room to be more childlike. Purposely presents herself in a youthful manner. Pitches her voice to a higher level in videos. Continually makes references to school and back to school content. Managed to bag a job in her old school to ensure she doesn’t have to venture into unfamiliar environments. Refuses to learn how to drive despite having the means to do so, because she knows it’ll mean she can’t have mummykins and daddykins driving her around like the 12yo she so desperately wants to be.

It’s sad and weird to witness. What’s worse I think is she never started spiralling this hard until she got into year 2 of her english degree, in her first year in philosophy and her first year of English she was acting appropriately for her age and looking back at videos she just seems more competent(?). I do wonder what was the trigger for her to start acting in such an odd way. I also think her parents are disgusting enablers simply encouraging her behaviour, they clearly cannot accept the fact that they now have adult children who have their own lives, so now they have the chance to baby Ruby again, they relish in it.
In my opinion, Jade is the most well-rounded of the studytubers. Traveling, meeting people and living (i think?) quite independently of her family. I know the travel is all part of the weird university she has chosen to study at, but at least she is living the life of a young adult. Its kinda sad, but look at Ruby's vids from the start to her latest one. 90% of them feature her childhood home/bedroom at some point. Even for work, she has returned to the school she attended as a child. The RV belongs to her parents. She makes her cups of tea in her parent's kitchen. Can't drive. Holding on to the childhood dream of going to Oxford.

Its how I found her. She ended up in my Recommended on YT. Then I went down a studytuber rabbit hole while I was recovering from an injury to my lower back. This continued during Covid. Then I googled something about Ruby and found this forum lol

When I want to watch something serious and relaxing about books, I watch a channel called Uncarley. She's a bit more chill and funny and doesn't just cover classic fiction.
