Every post from her reads like a child's 'What I did on my weekend' school report run through an AI language translator.
Lol accurate. I've never read or heard such a dull description of a night at live theatre. Its like she tries to make everything sound so deep and intellectual but it ends up coming across as empty. Almost like she is disconnected from the true experience of it.
Quantum mechanics?? 🤨
Maybe? I think she's been skim reading the Black Holes book by Brian Cox, the one her mother got her for Christmas 🤣 I've just never heard 'quantum' used that way in a sentence.

How do you guys find time to read? Seriously, i wake up at 5, study German, because i want to move there next year. Get ready for work, go to work, come back, eat dinner, shower, text my boyfriend and then im exhausted and just go to sleep by 9pm. Either there arent enough hours in a day or i dont have enough energy. Im supposed to start working out next month, i dont know how i'll manage.
It sounds as though you have a busier than average schedule. 5 is an early start, so it's understandable you're tired! Do you have much time off at weekends?

I don't watch a lot of TV, so in the evenings I read or go online. My favourite time to read is at night when the house is quiet and there's no traffic outside. I don't read every day and sometimes it's only for short periods (e.g. 15 minutes). I'm also lucky that I don't have many commitments right now. When I was working full-time/studying full-time it was a lot harder.

As pinkmug said, don't be too hard on yourself for not finding the time to read. You seem to be doing loads.

I know it's off-topic but @Griftwood I love hearing your book thoughts & you should head over to the reading thread (if you want, no pressure 😝)

I think Ruby is so assured of her superiority (Erimentha's character was arrogant to the point of obnoxious), she has probably self-soothed with the idea that we're all neanderthals who party and drink too much ethanol.
Yeah that's a good point. I think I was projecting too much of myself onto her. I also had some kind of superiority complex, but the conviction that it's just wrong assumptions wouldn't have made me ignore gossip like she does. I wanted people to know the "truth" which wasn't what they were saying ... I only started to improve my character when I started to take other people's opinions more seriously, so it's terrible to watch how she just shuts down all criticism. Even though it's good to have the ability to do what you want despite people disliking it.
Oh wow I can do OT alerts now, feeling technically productive

I nearly choked on my tea when I heard that. How can a person with an English literature degree claim that ALEXANDER POPE, of all people, the man who was the complete opposite of everything the Romantics were doing, one of the great CLASSICIST poets is, in fact, a Romantic poet? Ouch. WTF? Imagine her trying to say that in a university interview...
---

That part of the course sounds like an absolute dream to a massive archive/ history of the book nerd like me!
Me too. I was so confused. He's a neoclassical. Neoclassical....is kinda like the opposite to Romantics...
She's lost the plot lol

Me too! I will never forget the experience of reading Fingersmith. I've read three of SW's books and am hesitant to read the others in case she never writes anything else and I run out 😅
That’s so funny because I’ve read three and haven’t read any more for the exact same reason 😆

I wanted to gatekeep Wuthering Heights from Ruby but that failed. Now she is listening to Peter Gundry who has the best atmospheric music for reading. I can't have anything without Ruby ruining it for me 😭

The spilled matcha irritated me and the beans on a pizza is making me feel ill...no wonder her videos don't appear in my sub box I think it's for my own good.

i remember when i used to follow her when i was in year 11. i’m a year younger and below her school wise, i used to be so jealous of how she would study allll the time (i still can’t focus on any uni work for more than 2 hours, if anyone has any tips that would be helpful!!) , and one of my friends was exactly like her, studying non-stop, bizarre routines like ruby, and i just found it so toxic. (she would even try to make her bedroom and clothing style similar to ruby’s). she used to make me and few other of our friends feel bad if we didn’t study all day, e.g drop snarky comments etc.

I'm confused as to why her LinkedIn states that she graduated in 2023. Did she do this to make it seem like she hasn't been out of school for that long? Or is it just a mistake?

Also, adding Trampolining Society and Harry Potter society (VP) is definitely not the kind of thing you add to a professional LinkedIn profile as an adult. I wouldn't even have added this to my academic resume as a teen. Lol.
The first impression I get from this is that she has no focus. Not in the classes she took, not in the activities she participated in. While there is always something to be said for being well-rounded, these are very weak interests. Trampolining and Surfing will get you nowhere in life. I don't even remember her talking about surfing while at Uni, other than a few times going with her father. If she is not competing in these sports, why is she filling up precious time with them? My POV is seeing this through the eyes of an American. Maybe it is different over in the UK, but involvement in sporting activities through school or university usually means being on a team or competing at some level. Where are the competitions and how did she place? Or did she just randomly go to a gym and jump up and down on a trampoline? Weird. Harry Potter Society....nothing needs to be said there. It is frivolous and considering the way the majority of her fans now feel about JK Rowling, it isn't something I would personally advertise! I get that Rowling went to Exeter, so the connection there, but still, there surely were more challenging literature themed societies being offered? Theology...again, I don't remember her ever sharing any information on being a member or what they did. Besides, that is related to the major she quit, so that doesn't look particularly promising. Especially since she is either Agnostic or an Atheist. I forget which she proclaimed. It just seems like a filler to me. If asked about her participation in detail I would expect very little would emerge.

She only took 3 classes in her third year? Why? I took 6 every semester. 5 for my major in English Lit and 1 elective. Is this typical in UK education? Why is she listing her classes? That is so strange!

off topic rant about arrested development but…
I feel genuinely guilty for her in a way? It’s probably me projecting but untreated mental illness can be such a hinder to deal with. It’s not only with the person but to their family / audience as well. It’s getting to the point that I sometimes feel like me even looking at her videos is ‘encouraging her’ to keep this shit up.
I get reminded a lot of myself as I am about to graduate college next year and I’m crossing my fingers my autistic ass won’t end up like her. I was super terminally online during my high school days and as Ruby gets older and older it seems like she just regresses even more ): She’s really getting worse and it’s honestly feeling like we’re watching a train crash in slow motion.
I don't think it's projection, I really feel you there... It's very hard goings for a lot of twenty-somethings at the moment so it's painful to see someone with the money and opportunities to move on in their life just stagnating. I graduated a year ago and I'm still trying to find an office job and currently live with the parents because I don't have the cash to move out, so I can relate, in a way, to her feeling lost and useless. When you're between graduation and your first 'adult' job, you often feel depressed and confused; I have a lot of mates going through the same thing. I'm sure you'll make the most of life and will do better than Ruby... having this realization is a good sign, even if it's scary. If Ruby was more honest about the reality of life for most graduates and the negative feelings that can result from being without a solid plan for moving forward, it would be a real relief to most of her fans. The fact she tries to push this productive lifestyle shows she's not yet ready to face her fears and voice her emotions.

I mean, she keeps on talking about "the space between the eyes" when talking about being mindful, when I'm sure what she should be saying is "what's right in front of me". This is the second time she's said it this month. Unless she's literally just sat cross-eyed, counting the fake freckles on the bridge of her nose as a means of relaxation.
It's been a while since I studied any sort of meditation, but I do seem to remember a technique where you focused on the space between your eyebrows. This is supposed to be the location of your "third eye," so bringing your attention that area is not only centering but is also supposed to help you connect with your intuition.

Update that no one asked for: I'm still sick but somebody found my wallet and I got it back, with the money in it too!
I hope you are better soon! Great that you got your wallet back with the money still inside! There are still good people outside.

Sometimes temporary or assistant teachers are added to those staff lists, so it doesn't necessarily mean Ruby's been given a full-time teaching position. I'm interested to know if she's teaching secondary age or juniors. The cringey YouTube videos won't be such an issue for the youngest kids, but for Year 7+ I can imagine it being a problem. Actually, sharing any personal info on social media while in a teaching job is something trainee teachers are warned about. There's no way teenagers would take Ruby seriously if they find those clips of her reciting The Raven or pretending to be Hermione Granger. 😬
I’ve just seen on the school website that year 5 and 6 are taught in sets for English, maybe she’s going to be teaching one of those classes? It would be way less pressure and risk than teaching older kids.. Primary school age kids would probably think it’s cool that their teacher is a YouTuber 😆 I guess we’ll see. Hopefully she mentions what she’s doing in the school because I’m curious!!

also wtf is this “collar”, I’m guessing this is something she made herself by unevenly freehand cutting a piece of fabric and just thinking that was good enough? Newsflash Roogedy Ann, it’s not and you’re looking sloppy.

...And this is why last year Miu Miu chose to fray the fabric on their micro mini skirts rather than on their Peter Pan collars  It looks so wonky, I can't believe she is my age and went on camera with that on.
