I wonder if for her new job she might be working in Holly’s tutoring business if that’s still a thing.

If anything experiencing the plays how they were intended to be (recited on stage in front of an audience) to me is an infinitely better experience than just reading them.
Totally. English is not my first language so a lot of the little details or word plays would be lost to me until I saw the play. The work of the actor, their voice inflection, and the stage allowed me to fully understand the play.

Oh no, my greatest fears have come true! She's reading The Brothers Karamazov on her latest Instagram story...

I don't know if I should be excited about the upcoming hilarious Goodreads review or dread the inevitable massacre one of my favourite books will suffer...
It's interesting that many people on here seem to be into (classic) literature (myself included). Maybe that's how some of us discovered Ruby. I'd love to have another thread or separate forum to talk about books.

God I don't even want to imagine how unbelievably insufferable she would be if she got into Oxford.

Too late, I'm imagining it...
Oh help - now I've got that thought in my head. She'll pretend humility and try to arrange her face so she doesn't look smug. Urgh

what's wrong with the jumper? why can't she wear it to work? because it doesn't scream "OY AM A SCHOOL YUNIFOOAM!"?
(I'm not good at that Ruby-accent)

Why is she moving a black piece despite having white pawns 😭 how is that a chess game without any piece of an opponent 😭 how is that a chess game without any king 😭 if she doesn't know basic chess rules, why doesn't she ask anyone for help to set up a realistic game 😭 why does she always think nobody else notices😭 why am I feeling so desperate even though it shouldn't matter 😭
My first thought omg. She is touching her opponent's piece. But she probably doesn't even know how to play chess. Ugh she is ridiculous

There is no interview for an English literature masters at Oxford afaik. I think it’s likely she will get in.. there is around 65 places per course and only around 75 applicants (that does vary by specific course though). It’s not that competitive providing you have a first. She fits all the criteria on paper…
Or maybe she's applying for some 'manuscript studies' MA since she's explaining her interest in that area. See the part above the red highlighted area - 'this is why manuscripts are so important'. I wonder if something along those lines will have a higher acceptance rate than an English lit course?

Haha that made me laugh but it's so true. She made a big mistake with her revision folders. A much better preparation would have been to choose a poem at random, give herself 5-10 mins to annotate it, answer questions from a teacher/parent, then research the poem to see if her points are supported by the info that's online. That way she'd get used to analysing new literature under timed conditions. 🤷‍♀️ Idk why she did it in such a rigid way.
I was surprised that she never seemed to do this. Even if her school didn’t have much in the way of Oxbridge support, information about the format of an English Lit. Oxbridge interview is easily available online and practicing a response to unseen poetry or prose would have been much better preparation, like you say. I don’t know if things have changed but unseen texts were definitely part of my A-Level English Lit. exams, I have a vague memory of mine being something from F. Scott Fitzgerald …

I think Ruby thought that if she read lots and lots of analysis and papers she’d be able to dazzle her interviewers with the breadth of her knowledge, but then when the interview came she couldn’t link her research to the text and it completely threw her. It’s like revising for an exam by writing your own questions and then getting confused when the real ones are different, it doesn’t make a lot of sense.

She gets out of bed in her Snoopy pajamas, reads Prince Harry’s masterpiece while brushing her teeth, has green tea, eats breakfast, reads thirty pages, does some research, reads a middle grade book so she can recommend it to the other school children, goes outside, plans her day, checks her email, drinks iced coffee, and conveniently omits the fact that mummy/daddy/grandma drive her to school 😂

Oh and on days she’s not working, she goes to ballet class with her grandmother.
I'm just imaging her choking on her toothbrush when she enters Frostnipistan 🤣

1) she wouldn’t lol, constructive criticism = bullying
2) please for the love of god people DO 👏 NOT 👏 MENTION 👏 TATTLE 👏 to creators, that’s precisely how they then get to claim we’re bullying them - let’s just PLEASE keep the conversation among ourselves
The funny thing is that I think the primary reason that the Ruby Granger thread is so active is that a lot of people find it by being curious about what her true surname is. So by clinging so desperately to the GrAnGeR lIfEsTyLe instead of making friends with her true self as Ruby Bones, she leads a lot of people here.

Also, Ruby Bones is such a cute and charming influencer/manic pixie dream girl name. I get why you might be embarrassed by it at 15, but surely you would embrace it now.

- When she said "a phoenix, if you please". She must be so exhausted from cosplaying all the time.
When she said that, I actually said 'noo!' out loud 🤣 Someone in the house asked me if I was ok lol

The entire premise of her ”university might not be the best time of your life” video was how she tried to push herself in her second year and concluded that going outside of your comfort zone = bad.
See it doesn't have to be the best time of your life but you should make an effort to make it a great time! My experience has been so enriched by clubs and societies for example. At the end of my spring semester last year all my friends had gone home and my flight was booked a week after they'd left. Sraying home in my dorm made me miserable and stir crazy. I'm extroverted but at that point I was crying out for human connection lol.

i applied for a number of jobs in the past month and got rejection after refection and now I am invited to a second interview (tomorrow) at a company I had an interview already. At the same time I got a call from another company to invite me (the interview is next Tuesday) and then I got an invitation to another (for Monday) ... all in 24 hours. what is going on?! lol I don't know if I get one of the jobs, but the invitations gave me an ego boost. Don't give up!!
Good luck for your impending interviews, you got this!

Holly is anything but recovered. she makes the same video every year. my guess is she has orthorexia and an exercise addiction. so technically 'recovered' from anorexia from her point of view.
Holly has a background in dance, doesn't she? Combine that with a high potential for orthorexia and the knock-on exercise addiction, even the most self-aware individuals with an ED will find it hard to fully recover. Just checked in on Holly's vid and I have to agree with you that she isn't recovered. I'm no medical expert but I did dance (ballet, then into latin/ballroom) from age 3-19 and it took me such a long time to recover from my ED. I got pregnant in the early stages of my recovery and I feel it is what helped me into full recovery. But I notice those who do calorie restriction, body checks, false claims of recovery. Holly is one of those. I also notice Ruby did a bit of a body check with her tights or leggings or whatever recently. However I feel about those two girls, I really do hope they can properly recover.

Not sure if anyone here watches Bernadette Banner on YT but her body checks are wild. I worry for people out there prone to ED when content creators are doing this

Her TikTok seems to become even more of an utter mess of disorganised nonsense every time I look at it.

I tried to parse what the hell she's thinking with her upload schedule and I just can't. She's uploaded a bunch of January reading vlogs which feel completely unmoored from reality and any concept of time.

Vlog 1 - Ruby pretends to spend a day in a van with Blakeney reading FOIYVE SURVOYVE - a book that she was supposed to read in December.
Vlog 2 - Ruby pretends to read THARRTEE PAYGES of Spare and paint her nails, all in TWANTEE MINUTES. Utter horseshit.
Vlog 3 - "Book One of TWANTEE TWANTEE THRYEE." Ruby pretends to read WOTHERING HOYTS. She also says this is vlog 2 of 4.
Vlog 4 - "Book Nine of TWANTEE TWANTEE THYREE - THE FAMILY CUSSFIELD NYOTEBOHKS." It's like 4 pages long. #AD
Vlog 5 - View attachment 1903598

"Hallo children and walcome tyooo LARRNING TOIYM WITH RYOOBEE! The number 4 is spelled F O R. Now let's count to tan! One, nine, three, for...I forget the rest, syooo...class is over for today boht oiy hyope yoo have a prodocktive wyeek."
I'm surprised she's reading Spare. I guess she's jumping on the popular book bandwagon, but it's still nothing like her usual reading material. It's also not what I expected from Ruby, girl who tries to avoid all controversial opinions. 😂

Cosmetic freckles are super popular nowadays, and we live in an age where people routinely change the entire structure of their face using makeup contouring, so there's nothing stopping her from just saying "I don't really have freckles, but I love how they look, so I add some on as part of my makeup routine".

It'd still look ridiculous because of the lack of effort and consistency, and it'd still be obviously part of her sad, desperate precocious child cosplay, but overall, people wouldn't care. Pretending that they're real every time only draws more attention to how stupid it is, how dishonest she is about everything and how fake everything about her is. She'll never stop being her own worst enemy.
Thats the problem. The freckle thing and especially the failure to admit that she doesn't really have them...it shows how desperate she is to remain a child. To me, its an indication of the state of her mental well-being. I don't want to be mean but I do think that intake personnel at Oxford have considered her mental health when looking at her application. Not because they are discriminating against people with mental health struggles but because they don't want students to have their mental health worsened by the very demanding teaching style of their institution.

The fake freckles thing is utterly bizarre, her skin is flawless, why tf would you draw on freckles?!
I said this yesterday actually. She has quite lovely skin. Why fake freckles? I guess some people think its cute. Shrug.
