I've noticed that Ruby never talks up the Brontës, even though the sisters and their writing would seem to be perfectly aligned with her online image and purported interests. How does a supposed lover of literature, Victoriana, and moody atmospherics routinely ignore the Brontës? Too violent? Too sexy? Whatever the reason, I get the feeling she's not a fan, so it'll be interesting if she has to do some kind of academic instruction on Wuthering Heights.
It's because the Brontes are not 'victorian' enough AKA they're too regency/early Victorian to be ""relatable"" (its why I feel like she didn't like Bridgerton either + the sex scenes) I can tell she does not really like the Regency era at all and wants to live more of an Edwardian / late-Victorian lifestyle. I honestly expect her to want to be the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey when she turns 40 ngl.

I clicked fully expecting that "Smile...smile...smile..." song she used to used to soundtrack all her grimacing footage of her prancing around and it was so much worse...
Hated that song so much, I was always convinced that she played it as a mind-control song to make her grimace as she pretends that she loves learning and studying. It almost falls along forcing herself to grimace in the morning to boost her happiness as she did in a morning routine.

I just unfollowed her on Goodreads. She’s read 7 books in 2 weeks and I’m fed up with her cluttering up my homepage with her kiddie books. I want to follow people who’ll give proper recommendations of things I might enjoy.
She heard what I said and she’s now “reading” The Brothers Karamazov 😂 it’s either a middle grade or an advanced classic, there is no in between …

I don't think she'll expect that for a long time. That would mean she will continuously be looking forward to her job until she's in the classroom. I think as soon as she started to prepare some content to teach, she began to feel nervous, and then before the job starts that feeling will turn into numerous panic attacks. Remember how she even had a panic attack because she was seeing too many people of her own family?
I hope they will at least give her some kind of tutor for the first few days, she'll find out how hard it is for her anyway
See I think the opposite, I honestly think she’s so arrogant that she’ll be absolutely raring to go with no nerves at all, and then as soon as she gets into the classroom it’ll all fall apart.

I know that Ruby obviously has Other Issues going on but the fact that she's gone on a walk, a run AND done yoga signifies that she's floundering to me. She has no idea what to do with herself. Even with a part-time job she's driven by her compulsion to BE PRODUCTIVE and say she's done all of these things because deep down she knows she's stagnant in comparison to her peers. It's just desperately sad.
Does she run that much tho? Even if she says she runs X km it may most likely be overexagerrated. Same as her walks, strolling in a field next to her mansion and around the garden is barely exercise. Her yoga videos were very performative too. Just like anything she supposedly does really.

I'm quite freckly. I only have a few from October - March time and then they come out in the sun! And unlike Ruby's I don't just have 7 randomly dotted on one side of my nose haha. I don't get why she doesn't do them in henna or something... at least that way they wouldn't smudge?

Thoughts on new video:
- Why is she writing by candlelight? (like gossipguy said, I doubt this is even in the morning but either way...SO bad for your eyes but I guess it is for the "aesthetic").
- Undeclared ADs: 5 (or more...vaguely stopped counting)
- Why did she include the clips of her awkwardly putting a jumper on and spilling matcha?
- Her pointless timers and busy work (the Shakespeare presentation)
- Also lol at the dog running from her... dogs always know!

From Australia, and I get that different cultural norms have an influence but the Miss/Mrs thing made me balk.

I use Ms/Dr because the titles are neutral. Would never dream of alluding to my marital situation in a professional context and would select Ms, if pressed. Seems super conservative to me (the sort of thing I encountered in private/Christian education growing up).
Understand what you mean. I also go by 'Ms' whenever it's an option. That said, choosing Miss/Mrs isn't seen as conservative in the UK. It's still a fairly common way to address people.

Another thing is that private Christian schools are nothing like their U.S. counterparts. (I don't know what these schools are like in Aus.) Most schools in England have a religious affiliation, but it's not taken very seriously by staff/students and doesn't play a major part in school life. There's no right-wing evangelical curriculum or anything like that. There might be traditional stuff, e.g. a morning assembly with hymns and a carol service at Christmas, but aside from that it's not a big deal.

I'm sure Ruby's school is conservative in other ways, though. It is a private school after all.

I can't tell whether she's deeply in denial about her own issues or if she's aware and working on them behind the scenes.

“I’m a girl woman who likes” to pretend I am a girl, a child. I also like to pretend I read books, understand the meaning of words, do things for others, am the smartest person ever. Simply put, “I am a 12 year old girl who loves to pretend play.”

the way she applies face products is so irritating - using only your pointer fingers must be the least practical way to apply makeup and skincare ever. she also doesn’t wear nearly enough spf to get adequate UV protection

I'm sorry but how does she have time to cram all these things in before she goes to work as the school hours are 8:30 to 5 because to me it doesn't seem that feasible. I have just noticed that she has titled the video 6am morning routine for work, yet halfway through the video she instead decides to film the next day when she isn't going to work which defeats the object of this video as her morning routine will be different on the days that she does go into work and on the days that she doesn't go to work.
Yeah exactly, and in the last clips she's back in the first outfit and says she leaves for work at 9am - to work in a school?? Like if that's true, this job she's got is cushier than I already imagined...

i remember when i used to follow her when i was in year 11. i’m a year younger and below her school wise, i used to be so jealous of how she would study allll the time (i still can’t focus on any uni work for more than 2 hours, if anyone has any tips that would be helpful!!) , and one of my friends was exactly like her, studying non-stop, bizarre routines like ruby, and i just found it so toxic. (she would even try to make her bedroom and clothing style similar to ruby’s). she used to make me and few other of our friends feel bad if we didn’t study all day, e.g drop snarky comments etc.
I had a friend like that too - she ended up having a meltdown when I got a better grade than her in a mock exam that I didn’t study for and she did. It was a total fluke, and I just didn’t take mocks seriously so I didn’t really care, but she was FURIOUS with me like I’d done it on purpose. Thinking on it, it was hardly surprising because she studied herself sick to the point of it being counterintuitive. I could imagine Ruby being like that towards anybody who does better than her in a class tbh - but in a very snidey passive aggressive way.

it actually infuriates me that Ruby doesn't know how to use a double wick candle.
I mean, she barely knows how to use a single wick candle.

Always using unscented candles in brightly lit rooms, struggling to light them, struggling to blow them out even though she has a candle snuffer in arms reach...

She shouldn't be trusted near fire when she's so indescribably stupid.

You should be a film critic or an academic with this excellent analysis (I don't know your profession)!
Lol thank you, I studied philosophy and I work in the film and tv industry (so watching Ruby's content is usually painful from both the academic as well as the creative/technical perspective).
(Btw I'm unable to add one of these blue OT boxes, so maybe I shouldn't diss Ruby for her technical skills.)

She has been doing this a lot lately. Asking for advice because she apparently can't think for herself. I mean, she is on Good Reads where there are millions of suggestions. She has graduated with a degree in English Lit. Can she not even manage to pick out a book for herself to read next? I know we all ask or look for recommendations, but she seems to be doing it all the time now. Do you know this? Can you suggest that? It just shows how incredibly isolated she is with her peers how much harder it will be if she does enter a Masters Program. This hasn't exactly been the most fruitful year in her life.

I wonder if part of the reason she’s reluctant to talk about it is that it’s becoming too much already and she figures if she doesn’t talk about it, no one will know when (if?) she gives up and quits.
Yeah I think the job has become too much already because it isn’t what she expected it to be IMO.

If she does get into Oxford to do her Master's I wonder which course she'll do.
English (1550-1700)
English (1700-1830)
English (1830-1914)
English (1900-Present)

English (650-1550)
English and American Studies
English Studies (Medieval Period)
World Literatures in English
I'd guess one of these three. She doesn't seem to like pre-1700 literature (unless it's The Bible). Ruby's interested in the Victorian Period or later, but she's also mentioned American poetry and there's the Emily Dickinson thing, so maybe she'll apply for the American Studies course? I'm guessing this is what she meant by the note 'decide on course', i.e. she's definitely applying for English but there's a range of courses.
