Oh boy I feel like those "spiralling thoughts" might have been about her ""disappointing"" dissertation grade... Eithe that or she's just stressing about her book deal plans.
But it's just insane to me how she has the perfect life (amazing parents, being rich as fuck, having tons of priviledge and advantages, having graduated from university with stellar grades, free to do whatever she wants, ...) and yet she spends her days being sad about receiving a First on her dissertation because the First wasn't high enough. Dealing with "spiralling thoughts" when she could be so happy and enjoy her youth and her life to the fullest. It's honestly not even the fun kind of bullshit at this point, it just makes me sad.
I also think it’s super telling that someone being kind to Ruby = Martha helping her with her ”spiraling thoughts”, whereas Ruby being kind to someone = saying thank you and writing a letter. The expectations seem to be essentially disparate. Although I’m now trying to imagine Ruby being able to help someone with a mental health issue, or even just someone having a very bad day, and it doesn’t compute. In fact I’m unable to imagine her in pretty much any situation that doesn’t somehow revolve around her.
I just watched Eve Bennett's update video (clearly doing a round up of study youtubers I'd forgotten existed) and wow, what a difference in how she presents compared with Ruby. Seems like she's suddenly grown up, moving to London to pursue a vocational course, living with a boyfriend. I do find it really sad to see people like Ruby and Holly Gabrielle just haven't progressed past education. This studytube stuff probably doesn't help, they seem so socially stunted.
I watched one of PaigeY’s video’s recently and the difference between her and Holly is mind-blowing. Paige got a grad job, is working, studying and is in the process of buying a house. I’m not sure that Paige is ‘normal’ either in the sense that she does seem to be a very high achiever with a very different kind of family to Holly, but looking at the pair of them as Cambridge grads, the difference is just amazing. It’s sad to think about Ruby too in that context - she has so many opportunities and so much privilege, yet she’s graduated uni with nothing more than a plan to hide in her bedroom for a bit longer and pretend to write novels.
Lol, in my family my cat is the one who has a designated spot on the sofa and if you sit in it she'll meow at you until you move. If I moved her to take her spot I think my parents would kick me out
Maybe I'm reading too much into this dog thing but to me it's so weird and self-centered to go and move your pet who's trying to sleep just because you want to sit in what you've selected as "your spot". The rest of the sofa is right there. Just sit next to her and leave the poor dog alone lol. It just comes across as childish and bratty behaviour. You can just imagine the kind of tantrums she throws when it's her sister sitting in "her spot".
Hey guys, this is my first post and I didn't know how to open up a new thread with this, so let's put it here. I might have a controversial question. Don't you think it would be best for Ruby if she became a middle grade teacher? She seems to love nothing more than school environment. It's a job where she could reach the level of competence required, so she wouldn't constantly feel stressed out and wouldn't have to work at home like crazy. It's also a social job, meaning that she would be around lots of people on a daily basis, people she actually cares about because she fulfils a role which she most definitely enjoys. I don't think the arguments mentioned above about her being a bad influence on young people would apply here. Other teachers would notice any kind of strange behavior, plus kids being grouped together in a class would "force" her to behave well since being a good rolemodel, being "liked" is what she strives for. I think she could acutally grow a lot and mature as a person if she was a teacher, and feel fulfilled. The only problem I see is her most likely thinking that she deserves a "better" job, so she might never consider this an option. But as you grow, you lose your arrogance unless your environment enables it. Therefore the first step would be to go out into the real world, as so many of you have suggested already ...
Unless she was very, very lucky and got saddled with a well behaved class in an independent school where every pupil was attentive and wanted to learn (which even in independent schools is pretty fanciful), I think a teacher would be one of the worst professions Ruby could go in.
She thinks every pupil should be like her: “hardworking” and wants to be in school. Reality is that isn’t the case; you’ll get disruptive pupils, lazy pupils, aggressive pupils and so forth. What would Ruby do if a fight broke out? Students didn’t listen to her? Were rude? She’d have a full on breakdown.
Even if she worked with younger pupils at primary level, plenty of those will be disruptive. She’ll be expecting thank you cards, picnics and sing songs, when in reality, it’s a very small minority that are like Ruby.
Her perfected view of what a school would be would be crushed and it would destroy her. No way would it be a good job for her.
I would never, ever want my child to be in Ruby's class. The first thing that comes to mind is favoritism- Ruby would absolutely favor the wealthy bookworms, neglecting the students who most need a supportive teacher. Her productivity-at-all-costs mindset would be terrible for her students who need accommodations, extensions, or extra help. Ruby is not at all equipped to help a student who is genuinely behind and not just trying to suck up. She wouldn't even be a good influence on the aforementioned wealthy bookworms, as she would undoubtedly try to live vicariously through them and discourage them from pursuing paths other than Oxford.
This is absolutely spot on. Ruby would be a toxic, favouritism displaying teacher. If you didn’t spend your break times in the library studying, didn’t spend hours on your homework, didn’t have any desire to go to a Russell Group or weren’t always nice and polite, Ruby would have no interest in you or your development.
She’d want the “easy” pupils, which is sad, because it’s often the ones who are more disinterested in school that need more help; they might come from difficult home situations. Ruby would leave that to the other “adult” teachers though while she joined in at the school book club with the gold star pupils.
I'm just imagining how awkward this would be to film? Like, setting up a camera outside, going into your room, leaning out the window and looking around, then going back outside to take back the camera. It's so unnatural.
Don't forget having your mother operate a drone to film you hanging out of your bedroom window.
Like, if you're introducing drone filming into your videos, and you live in a lush country manor surrounded by scenic greenery and endless fields, your videos should look better and more professional, even if by accident.
Establishing shots of expansive acres of beautiful nature or swooping in from the sky to ground level, or ending the video with a closing shot of the camera soaring high above the countryside - the video practically makes itself.
The sum total of Ruby's drone photography is getting the same shots of her garden as always, but from 8 inches higher, then blindly cutting the drone shots away to nothing in the editing deck and cramming them alongside the rest of her sloppily-edited mistakes.
And on top of that, I wanted to take six simultaneous showers after watching this video. Her life looks more squalid every time she shows it.
Ruby "makes the bad" again, by which she means "lazily adjust the duvet a little". When she lifts the duvet up, you can see the the gross sheet that has likely sat unchanged on her bed for weeks/months is covered in little black bits of dirt and debris.
Her mattress is (once again) exposed at both ends and the sheet is hanging completely off the bed, draped all over her filthy floor.
Instead of changing the sheets or adjusting them to fit the bed, she just hides the draping mess of filthed-up bedding by tossing an old, unwashed throw on top of it. She no doubt hopped into this befilthed petri dish of dust and bacteria later that night to sleep in it without a moment's hesitation or cleaning.
Also note the Moleskine notebooks on her bedside table, even though she AWHLWHEYS uses Plonkin' Poddocktivity nyotebooks.

Literally, one video after she desperately tries to shill her planner, and she uses everything but her own products outside the ad section. She has a vacant lot where her mind should be.
She also manages to get her hands covered in food again while eating, even though she only has a tiny serving of "food" from a drinking glass and she has a spoon to eat it with. This is what happens when you spend an awkwardly long time playing with your food for the camera to avoid eating it.
And then she proceeds to read her "latter" and then write her own, rubbing her muck-covered hands all over the paper as she writes to her cherished "frand" who she's never mentioned before.
That food is still all over her hands in much later footage, along with a bunch more additional crud under her fingernails.
She's apparently doing Camp NaNoWriMo, but she's also missed the point of it entirely.
It's a writing challenge where you write 50,000 words in a month. It's aimed at getting you to stop expecting your writing to be perfect first time around, stop wasting time and putting obstacles in your way with constant editing-as-you-go and just give yourself free license to write and have it be a mess, so that you have a complete work to edit and revise at the end of it.
You can plan and outline your story during the month, but generally people do all that before the month starts so they can just get straight to work writing on the first day of the month, otherwise it's just wasted time.
Naturally, Ruby has missed the point and fucked it already - she's apparently spending the first week of the month just planning to plan, and once again, she wastes more time planning than actually getting things done.
She also appears to be cheating. That or she's writing two books at once on the same day, which is beyond stupid. I'm gonna go with cheating.
See, the main rule of NaNoWriMo is that you cannot include any writing done before the month of the challenge. Planning's okay, but actual writing's a no-go. It's not enforced, but you're cheating yourself if you're not committed to taking part and creating something new for yourself.
Ruby has entries all over her to-do list for writing "Penelope book", and she's doing research on the octopus.
This is just the children's book she wrote for her children's writing module - "Penelope Peppermint and the Silver-Tipped Octopus". She's just recycling it to win the challenge, even though she's only competing against herself.
The twin daughters of her parents' friends are apparently not responding to Ruby's endless unsolicited letters, so Ruby's had enough and is going to toss them on a bonfire.
If I were Ruby, I would make videos about my old videos and review them and point out what was good advice and what not and so on. I think that would be a nice change from her usual stuff.

I just saw this post and instantly thought of Ruby. Picture her in her mid 40s going "Did I mention that I was head girl? Ask me how many points I got on my dissertation"
"I like to see who is announced as the new head girl".
God, I don't even know where to start with this one. Ruby left her school in 2018. The new head girl will leave in 2023, so will be 5 school years younger than Ruby. That means when Ruby left the school, she was in Year 8.
Why on earth would Ruby care who is elected? Unless she was friends with the Year 8s (which wouldn't surprise me really in some bid to take up a "motherly/mentoring" role), that is just unbelievably strange and almost creepy. Is she hoping she can impart some wisdom as a former head girl? Just likes to infantilise herself and hang out with children? Hope they idolise her and see her as this top tier alumnus who conquered uni, wrote a book and came out with a first?
I enjoyed my time at school but have no desire to go back there. She's willingly going to find out who the new Head Girl is. Very odd behaviour.
I haven't checked on this thread in a while! No surprises Ruby was disappointed with her grade result. I bet she was furious off-camera and needed talking down from Mama and Papa Bones. Not only did she feel entitled, she was robbed of the opportunities for content, "How I wrote a publishable dissertation," "How I got 80+ on my dissertation."
Ruby really needs to get into the real world (she won't), than the childlike delusional reality she has created for herself. She needs to understand that recruiters won't give a stuff about her module breakdowns, they just want a reliable member of staff that they can work with. What will happen is she'll continue to fester in her home environment, syphoning off the rental money coming in from the cottage. She copies Holly a lot, you'd think she'd see Holly now and use her as a cautionary tale.
I might be in the minority, but I don’t particularly see much wrong with how Ruby worked for her degree. From what we can gather, she played the game well; she used Blakeney’s ideas, she asked tutors, borrowed articles and used similar methods. I can’t lie, I’ve done similar in terms of asking course mates for article links and discussed ideas with them and I can say I don’t think I’ve read the entirety of an academic essay in my life; I skim it and pick out quotes. This works for me and I’ve had consistent firsts/high 2:1s. At the end of the day, she hasn’t cheated or even done anything wrong, she’s just played the game well. Doesn’t mean doing this is transferable forever and Oxford very may well destroy her if she does a Masters there, but as for her degree, she’s just used all the resources she has around her. She writes the essays and clearly does work hard, just uses things around her advantageously.
Of course, this is just speculation, as we don’t know exactly how she works, have seen the entirety of an essay and YouTube isn’t really an accurate picture of everything.
It's fine for us mere mortals to do, but Ruby has consistently portrayed herself as this great scholar who totally deserved a spot at Oxford It would be another thing entirely if she'd been open about it and said "hey, we're all busy and here are some tips on how you can save yourself a lot of headache", but she's gone out of her way to make herself look like this erudite person who reads entire books cover to cover, studies "for fun" during her "study breaks", works long days, etc. I don't have a problem with someone going to Sparknotes for a little leg-up, but it really goes against the Hermione-like person Ruby has made herself out to be, and it's harmful when there's a lot of young viewers who aspire to be just like her and don't understand that she's taking all the shortcuts she can.
Also, just to say that blanket terms like “she is such a sexless person” and “she seems asexual” in defence of inappropriate relationships are dangerous. They do not make someone harmless and unable to be inappropriate with minors. Not relating that to Ruby, just saying. I think its just uncomfortable to use those as excuses in any situation like that.
I think we can confidently say there's nothing sinister or creepy about Ruby's intentions; she's not a paedophile, but that doesn't make the whole thing anymore off and strange. It's an attempt to cling onto a happy period in her life and as being Head Girl is seemingly her crowning achievement in life, she wants to relive that multiple times over and impart her wisdom to the new one (whether it's wanted or not).
However, even without the creepy side to it, it shouldn't be encouraged. I'm not sure how parents would feel and the safeguarding issues feel they should be present in some form. As people have said, if Jack Edwards revisited his old school to find out who the Head Boy/Girl was, people would understandably see it as grooming as with wrong intentions behind it.
Ruby just shouldn't do it. She needs to let go of that period of her life and if her parents won't intervene, the school should. They won't, as she is a notable alumnus, but they're stroking her ego and it's all just very odd.
To be fair, creepy ≠ automatic n, and I don’t think anyone is suggesting that she is one either.
However, Ruby has an extremely unhealthy interest in childhood which has in the past lead her to befriend minors online / encourage younger viewers to contact her, and I just there is always something creepy about an adult who seems to prefer the company of kids over people their own age, regardless of their intentions. She isn’t getting paid to go to her old school, she hasn’t been invited there, and from the way she has spoken about it, it seems like the purpose of her visit is to see students rather than her old teachers.
Plus as innocent as anyone seems, I always think it’s kinda sus when I see an older influencer seeking out any form of contact with kids because they’re in a position of far greater power and there have been so many incidents where young people have been exploited by people with large followings on social media.
I just think Ruby needs to be a bit more responsible when it comes to having contact with young people (for her own sake more than anything), because I can see it easily tipping over into inappropriate territory given her own issues with growing up and her obsessive interest in childhood.
I know she can't help being privileged but I honestly find it so annoying that Ruby can take a year to sit at home and do nothing but try and write a book lol. Most people who want to write a book have to try and fit it around their job and other responsibilities until they maybe get to a point where they can afford to write full time. Plus if Erimentha was self published how does she even know if her work is any good lol. I don't understand why she wouldn't at least get a part time job, which would still leave a lot of time for writing
