Good to see she’s managed to ‘spend time with Martha’. Nothing like turning family relationships into a chore you can tick off a list!

I can just imagine the scene - Ruby carefully setting a timer for exactly twenty minutes of human interaction, and not a second more!

No quota when it‘s time to hang out with Mummy Granger though!

Aww I didn't know this. Good for her!

Is Ruby in touch with Eve Bennett, though? I've seen comments by Jack and Jade on Ruby's insta, but never seen anything from Eve. It doesn't seem like they interact much.
Didn't Eve Bennet cease being in touch with that crew back in 2017/18? I seem to remember (as I was applying to Oxford at the same time) there was a vlog squad of all the studytubers applying to Oxford, and Eve wasn't included for whatever reason. Me and my friends all had a good chuckle about it because none of that group (Ruby, Jack, Jade etc) got in and Eve did. I can't imagine she would have wanted to be in touch with them after all that, tbh.

Could it have been because of management deals? Sixteenth was established in 2017. I wonder what the timeline is for when they were all picked up. Does Eve Bennett have a management deal?

edit: looks like they all follow Eve and she follows them, but Eve is under a different management company (M&C Saatchi Social, looks bigger than Sixteenth), so that’s probably why there’s no cooperation… and as we know, it’s a waste of time to interact unless you can make money off of it 🙄

There’s also no comments from jade or Ruby or jack on eves video. I honestly think they got so jealous of her they couldn’t stand it and just avoided her

lol I sincerely hope this is what happened 😁

edit: oh god she has another outfit 😂 it’s unfortunate in itself, but she just ✨💫crowns✨💫 it by recommending Villette, which is a school story but it’s so interesting to see it from the point of view of the teacher 🤣 Send help, I may never recover from this 😂😂😂

like, the whole entire point of the book is the way Lucy Snowe addresses the reader, and I’m dying imagining the things she would have to say to Roobee 🤭

I see the odd comment here and there with Eve on Jade and Ruby's posts/videos, but think that was more heightened during the A-Level period. Even with their different management, I doubt Eve would want to be friends with Ruby, or have any reason to be.

Eve has aspirations of being a journalist, has moved to London, has a relationship and in general, seems like a very normal, sweet 22-year-old functioning member of society. Contrast that with our Ruby, whose aspirations are "writing a book" (which is achievable only because of YouTube, not her writing ability), has moved back in with mummy and daddy with no signs of independence and doesn't seem to have any romantic or platonic relationships (unless you count smothering Blakeney).

Just look at how polar opposites their reactions to their final grades are; both achieved firsts. Eve noted how she'd found previous years difficult but felt this year was much better for work/life balance. She seemed genuinely happy and didn't show any fixation over whether she got a 72 or a 75. Our Rubes though, was visibly upset that she didn't get a "high first" on her dissertation because she's above everyone else and needed an 80 because she'd "warked sywoooo hard" and her work has to be a publishable standard. All in all, Eve had a life outside, which Ruby sacrificed to do busywork 15 hours per day, and they ended up in the exact same position, with Eve at Ruby's dream university since she was 12.

Beautiful stuff.

Okay so now I finally watched Ruby's last video too and I have to admit I was hoping to find something to defend her a little bit, since I have this dilemma of a) finding your comments on this forum highly entertaining as well as psychoanalytically accurate and b) feeling sorry for Ruby since she doesn't seem to know how much dislike her ridiculous behaviour attracts. But I did not find much to defend, except for her chia yoghurt breakfast thingy which DOES have to be prepared overnight, guys. These overpriced seeds do take several hours to soak. The rest of her video is painfully cringe and sad though. The cloudbathing scene. Jesus Christ ...

Between this, her latest Insta post with quotes about looking to the past and never the future, the renewed interest in kids' shows and todays "work" space...

View attachment 1447335

...the child's school desk which she inexplicably owns and keeps full of infantile stuff (now accessorised with cobweb-covered stars and a horrifyingly grotty mug):
Everything about that space looks so grimy. I don't know why you'd put it online. Those stars look as if they're ancient and falling apart; the candle is leaning, as usual, and is streaked with...something; the desk looks all marked (it is a school desk after all); and the mug is the worst. It reminds me of the old mugs we used for paintbrush water in art classes.

When it comes to Ruby's writing ambitions, I think she's rushing into things and will regret it later. She's impatient to be a published author right now, but this is causing her to churn out lots of subpar work rather than producing one solid piece of writing. It's common for aspiring authors to start off small: seek to have few articles published in reputable online journals, submit short stories to literary magazines, have couple of poems published in anthologies - that kind of thing. Writing is also a skill, i.e. something that you can improve with effort. This is one reason why writing courses and workshops exist. It's important to get constructive criticism/feedback at the earlier stages.

I don't know why Ruby doesn't do something like this during her gap year. She has enough time and money: https://www.arvon.org/writing-courses/courses-retreats/

IMO, it would make a lot more sense to get part-time job or do other activities while setting aside time to write regularly. Some authors can take 10 years between their first draft and their final one! Madeline Miller, for example, took that long to write The Song of Achilles. In fairness, she was working and living her life so it's not as if she didn't have other commitments. But as Ruby claims to be a perfectionist, you'd think she'd want to spend more time making sure her book is of good quality. Instead, she's talking like ''I've finished one book and I'm writing another book and I already have plans for another piece of writing.'' Slow down. 😖

The school desk is the last straw. I can take her love for children's books or even her weird collars, but having a school desk when you're 22 is something super unhealthy. Her parents should take her to the therapist, and I don't understand why they don't care about her mental health.

it says it on my instagram view! at first i thought it was just her birthday post for her sister but it’s quite a few before that too. pretty sure i’m not blocked either, as i don’t follow her and have never commented

Thanks! So I guess it's how Griftwood said, she only allows followers to comment.

You don't know when she started limiting her comments?

It's ok if you don't know.
I'm just curious to know why she started doing that...

I looked them up and Eve is, according to their website, an intern at BILD. BILD is like The Sun.

It seems like they, or at least Mother Granger, are just as bad as her. Obviously they can't force her to get medical care, but if they were mentally healthy themselves surely they would have told her that she can't keep living her current lifestyle on their bank account unless she sees a doctor/therapist. As it is Mother Granger seems to actively indulge/encourage a lot of her behaviour, which makes me think she may not exactly be all there herself... I know it can be difficult for parents seeing their kids grow up and move away, maybe she likes still having a child around?

Gross, but also if you're just starting out in journalism you take the jobs you can get, because any experience is better than none. If she's an intern I'd guess she just applied to every internship she could and this is the one she got and couldn't really afford to say no on principle.

I don't have tiktok, is that actually all she says about Villette?? It's my favourite book of all time and there's so much more to it than being a 'school story'

Also that she’s a great feminist character and she may like her even better than Jane Eyre 😂 But yeah, that’s her entire take on it.
