I'd also be interested to hear about her Uni experience. I can say that the teaching at Exeter is generally great and the assessments are challenging (though graded generously), so she might be fulfilled academically. But there are so many other great things that she doesn't seem to have taken advantage of. The careers department is amazing at helping students get internships and graduate positions (I know lots of universities have a great careers department, but the one in Exeter has so much funding pumped into it and goes above and beyond. They'll do a mock interview with you even if you're just applying for a part-time student job for term time). As a small city it's a different university experience from what a lot of people enjoy but there is honestly so much to do in the city and around Devon and Cornwall. She might be very happy with her grades, but I'm sure people on her course have done just as well and also been able to take advantage of everything else the uni and the wider area offer.

Edit: when I say the assessments are challenging, I'm obviously excluding the one where she had to create a fake escape room because what even was that 😂

i know we moved on from this pretty quickly but what she said about it being cold enough at 6am to wear a jumper and tight is bullshit. i’m muslim and we have to wake up at around 3am to pray and sometimes it feels hotter than in the day time. there is no way she put that on cuz she was cold she must be lying

It's not just you, that thing is a disaster of form and function.

The design of the spreads looks somehow even more cluttered and full of pointless, redundant bullshit this year, too. They've added 'Weekly Overview' sections just to shove in even more pointless to-do lists within to-do lists and goals within goals.
Ruby’s planner genuinely stresses me out - it epitomises Ruby’s belief that being productive means doing lots of unnecessary stuff. It would literally take me all of my time just to fill the damn thing in, let alone it being any kind of aid to productivity.

Imagine the poor unsuspecting jogger who almost has a coronary after thinking they've discovered a body, only for Ruby to explain she's alive and 'cloudbathing'

The beginning of the video looks like a trailer for a horror movie

I think she could have a perfectly respectable career and earn enough to sustain a middle class lifestyle. But she can't let go of the idea of being a child protégé and it's holding her back. Respectfully, she doesn't have the skillset for either academia or being an author.

There is not a University MA programme in the land that would turn their nose up at a 74 for a dissertation mark. Not even Oxbridge. Why would they?

The problem would inevitably arise in an interview scenario, where our protAGONIST would decry her grade as paltry and how her dissertation actually deserved a much higher mark. Instant red flag.
That and she'd be incapable of speaking coherent sentences or forming thoughts that weren't pure babbling nonsense with a thesaurus-worth of misused words she doesn't understand and can't pronounce tossed in to sound smart.

Oxbridge would toss her right out the door.

I never thought it would get to the stage where plenty of you are sitting through a live university graduation just for 10 seconds of seeing Ruby walk onto the stage 😂 😂

I started watching Ruby when I was in middle school and going through my Hermione/bookworm/not like the other girls phase. I eventually grew out of it and now have a healthy balance of academia and fun in my independent adult life.

The difference is that while I could just stop clicking on her videos, Ruby had an audience and a monetary incentive to keep up her appearances. Her last video featuring loads of undeclared ads, shoddy drone footage, lazy editing, and a dead bug garnered over 50k views in one day. We can't get inside her head, but I wouldn't be surprised if she feels trapped, unable to experiment with anything other than sad attempts at clinging to childhood.

I don't think Ruby would be the way she is today without the impact of YouTube. Obviously, she could still keep a dirty room, have an eating disorder, and struggle with the transition to adulthood without ever having a social media presence. However, I think the way she has turned out is largely because of the impact of YouTube. Many people live vicariously through her as evidenced by her tiktok comments, so she never felt encouraged to grow up. Along the way she convinced herself that this is how she wants to live her life, and now she finds herself out of uni with no real friends and seemingly no options other than to ride this train to the end.

8. What is the obsession with Oxford? If you can't get in as an undergrad, you cannot remedy this with postgrad. It's not equivalent.
All studytubers were led to believe that Oxbridge, Oxford in particular is the gold standard for education - where the best and the brightest, most gifted students all go. So naturally all those egotistical clowns believed that they were all deserving if not entitled to it. None of them actually stopped to think "Why Oxford?" other than the prestige and the name recognition.

Ruby never explained what practical advantages Oxford offered to her. She didn't research other universities. She never looked into all the things Oxford would expect from an applicant (critical thinking ability, a well-rounded personality and interests) and spend her time wisely to prepare.

She just thought she'd wow them with memorised information and a scrapbook of nonsense and they instantly saw that she was an idiot. That was a learning approach that all of them adopted and encouraged, and all of them failed to learn independent thought and critical ability, they just used rote memorisation.

That should've been a humbling wake-up call for her to change her habits and approach to learning or how she spent her time, but she never did. None of them did. They just carried a bitter chip on their shoulder over it and kept applying with the same approach expecting different results. It doesn't matter to them if acceptance levels at undergrad and Masters are wildly different, they just want to get accepted to Oxford, because in their minds its a vindication for them - Oxford was wrong to reject them the first time and they finally realised their mistake.

That mass studytuber rejection at undergrad should've been the final nail in the coffin of studytube. Because if the people presenting themselves as geniuses and their study techniques as the key to academic success and all of the core studytubers were rejected from their unis of choice, then why would anyone listen to them?

I don't know where you live but it usually being colder at night and in the early morning is sorta common sense, right? I can't tell what the weather in the UK was this morning (according to google it was 12 degrees in Oxford at 6 am) but I find this a sorta weird lie to debunk.
It's one of those things that's entirely possible, but given Ruby's usual constant lies about outfit changes to hide the fabricated timescales of her "in a day" vlogs, it immediately screams that she's lying. Her then making a point of smugly insisting with a wagging finger that AKCSCUSE ME VARRY MOCH, she REALLY DID wear that outfit for THREE HOURS after WYAKING OP AT SIX but then changed into something else when it got hot just kinda confirms it.

There's no reason to lie, of course. It would've been incredibly easy to just say "Here's an outfit I wore to match my planner. Unfortunately I don't own anything lighter and weather-friendly that matches so I changed immediately" and it would've saved a lot of comments.

But there's never any reason to lie about most of the endless stuff Ruby lies about, it's just that she can't seem to imagine anything worse than people thinking the lifestyle that she presents as her own online isn't actually how she lives and she gets very defensive and doubles down on lies. Her opting to showcase the PETA-branded shirt is just the icing on the stupidity cake.

Her TikTok is the stuff of nightmares. A thousand Roobees, all bodychecking, waving books/tea/both, and weirdly enunciating just slightly out of sync with each other.

View attachment 1403482
And everything she does on there just seems wildly out of touch with the booktok audience/creator sphere she's trying desperately to latch onto.

Add "booklook" to the endless list of things which Ruby does not understand.

To Ruby, "booklook" apparently means: "Look at this book (which I haven't read)! And also look at this fashion disaster outfit, which has no discernible connection to the book's appearance or content!"

Is she planning on like… doing something with her life during this gap year? Like maybe get a job or something to work on her interpersonal skills because she is coming across more regressed and immature with each video tbh

I don't want to change topics but Youtube recommended this gem of a video... Her fake posh high pitched accent.. I can't.

That look of sheer contempt every single time she has to shove in a forced disclaimer to say how she's NOT just uploading these videos in which she brags about getting hundreds of gifts just to show off will never stop being hilarious.

Ngl, it's so easy to bullshit an English degree. I got a 2:1 from a reputable university whilst in a deep depression, I read about 2 of the books we were supposed to, skimmed articles, and picked out random quotes to spin an argument with. I even managed to get a 2:1 in an exam on James Joyce's Ulysses by watching YouTube videos about it. So not surprised Roobee managed a first, especially with the help of Blakeney, and people to proof read. Doesn't mean she cheated at all.
That's a good point.

I struggled with my mental health in uni too. Also I was in a terrible relationship and had financial difficulties, and I did the bare minimum of work a lot of the time, skipped a lot of lectures and handed in work late a lot. I couldn't concentrate and kept falling asleep when I tried to read anything. I fell asleep in the library and nearly got kicked out by the security guard, and once I fell alseep in a lecture, sitting right at the front as well.

I considered dropping out but I was too depressed to make an actual decision about my life so I kept on scraping by as well as I could.

I still got a 2:1 in the end, though I often think I really didn't deserve it. I didn't put half the hours of work in that Ruby did.

I wouldn't say it was easy exactly, as I obviously struggled a lot, and I was very stressed, lurching from one deadline disaster to the next, but it does seem that you can still achieve decent grades without reading all of the material.

I have to add that my tutors and head of department were very kind about it and helped me through a very difficult time, so I will forever be immensely grateful to them. But I still wonder all the time if they graded me more generously because of it.

P.S. I'm still not over Ruby talking with a mouthful of tea because she couldn't swallow the undeclared, gifted crap she was shilling.

I think it might be my new all-time favourite moment of deranged Ruby stupidity.
