It reminds me a bit of Steinbeck, when he waxes on about the land. Cut down considerably I could see this being a good section towards the end of The Clergyman's Daughter or midway through Coming up for Air (though in its current state it definitely does not fit Orwell's style), or some other book that has a return to a place. There are definitely bits of this I very much like, though altogether it is a bit much. Good potential.
Don't compare her to Steinbeck, let's not encourage her 🤣

I thought you might be Ruby based on your posts about your 'reading strategy' and now this 😂 FolderDuvet are you Ruby Granger??

Who brings fragile teacups on a picnic? Not saying you have to use disposable cups but this looks so extra lmao
My family has a bunch of reusable plastic cups that fold down to a disk. We use three of them + the top of the tea flask lol. I mean we usually have picnics when we go hiking in the mountains so it's not like we can carry a full porcelain teaset, a million tupperwares, a picnic basket and flowers in glass vases.
When you drive down for a posh park picnic with mummy’s Tory friends in your best dress, you can carry any amount of porcelain in your Fortnum&Mason picnic basket.

Wow, I just saw this video in which Ruby is bragging about her Christmas gifts, and wow. I've always thought that scene from the HP book where Dudley received a ton of gifts was an exaggeration.

And wasn’t she bullied at school? Why would anyone go back to the place where they were bullied in the past?

It's incredibly dangerous for you to be perpetuating this idea that because Ruby doesn't look or act the way you think a pedophile does, she can't possibly be one. If you have this image that pedophiles always have to be older men with greasy hair crouching in windowless vans you can throw that out right now. Pedophiles can be (and often are) attractive, charming people who occupy a valued place in their community. So many people who have experienced assault and abuse have struggled to be believed because their abuser "is a good person". Comments like yours are what are demeaning to these people.
No one is making a direct accusation that Ruby committed a pedophilic act, only that her actions so far have raised many red flags and warrant caution in that vein.
Even if her actions are not pedophilic in nature, they can still be predatory and damaging. She openly flaunts her disordered eating behaviors and does nothing to denote them as negative. It's not much of a jump to imagine her encouraging these behaviors in young girls she "mentors". Her studying habits and outlook on academia are toxic and since that is her whole brand, I assume that is what she wants to mentor people in. Passing those traits on to people who look up to her so much is a terrible idea.
Ruby has no qualifications to be a mentor to teens. Having once been a teen does not make a person fit to guide someone through their teen years. If Ruby truly wanted to impart some helpful wisdom she thinks she possesses, she could easily have set up a website where young girls could write in anonymously and she could respond with advice. A "dear Ruby" column if you will. Still carries the potential to cause harm but much less creepy than asking for teenage girls' home mailing address. There's also plenty of organized avenues to go through if you want to work with young people. She could easily have applied to work at an after-school program as a mentor or tutor. Then she would be in a controlled environment where the parents of these children are aware of the relationship.
Being an older student at school and acting as a "big sister " to younger students is wildly different from trying to form relationships with them as a grown adult. The power balance is completely off and the life experience gap is much greater. Her behavior in regards to children is completely inappropriate.
Thank you!! This needed saying.
I have no idea if Ruby’s interest in childhood is suspect but just because she’s an attractive young woman with twee, benign interests it doesn’t mean that she can’t be predatory.
her (seemingly uncritical) love of Lewis Carroll is particularly strange to me. The man was basically a confirmed pedalo (proposed to Alice when she was 12, painted and photographed several children nude, some of which were so suggestive that he burned them to cover himself.) he got away with it then because he was a shy, docile academic who wasn’t outwardly threatening, worked at a reputable university and came from a privileged family. Sounds familiar…
I honestly don’t know how you could want to study him at a university level, especially looking at something as intimate as his personal letters, and not interrogate or acknowledge his perversions. Ofc we don’t know that Ruby didn’t acknowledge them but im willing to bet that she glossed right over it and continued to keep Carroll on a pedestal. Red flag behaviour.

I can't even remember who was head girl in my year at school and I'm only a year older than Ruby, it is strange imo to keep going back. Probably because she peaked in high school so its her 'safe space' to go back to

I'm 100% sure there's no sexual motive to Ruby's interactions with young teenagers but she's still using young people for her own wish fulfillment under the guise of "helping" or "mentoring" them. It's not for their benefit, it's entirely for hers.
Facts, Ruby isn’t going back to her school to give talks out of the kindness of her heart, she wants to do it because there is something about doing it which makes her feel really good. Whether it’s about enjoying being surrounded by young people and pretending she is still a kid, or whether it’s about massaging her ego and boosting her superiority complex, it’s 100% all about her.

Also guys, I’m begging you, if you wear weekly / biweekly contact lenses please for the love of god, put the lid back on your solution when you’re done with it 😭😭 if you leave it off like dirty Ruby, you’re just creating a breeding ground for microorganisms and putting yourself at risk of infection…

  • Is she an idiot? In the summer I have to get up early if I want to go for a run because it doesn't cool down enough until much later, like 9 or 10pm, I feel like this is the kind of thing you should be looking up rather than just going on a run and finding that it's really hot and maybe take some water if you still want to go. But from her vlog, Ruby's runs look very fractured and bitty anyway so hopefully she's not really doing enough to actually harm herself
  • Love that Mother Granger is now inventing fake hobbies and telling Ruby about them to see if she does it - cloudbathing, tick
  • Ruby's schoolmistress attitude towards her dog continues to be grating - Lola clearly letting out energy is "silly" and then Ruby says her name in a stern way. Later, poor Lola is clearly trying to cool down on the sofa and gets pushed out of "Ruby's spot" so she can watch ten minutes of a children's show
  • So much "we like", "we did this" - I know enmeshment is a strong and inaccurate word but Ruby seems to be doing less and less alone, she's merging her activities more and more around her parents
  • That's definitely not 12 year old Ruby in the tie photo because the fringe is grown out
  • She's only been using that exfoliator for five days I think she said but you're definitely not supposed to exfoliate every day
  • She definitely doesn't need to be taking vitamin D in the summer, if you spend even a tiny amount of time outside in the spring/summer you should get your daily recommended dose of vitamin D because there's plenty of sunlight
  • Ruby premakes her breakfast even though she has infinite time in the morning to do it - prodocktive

But considering she pronounced it "tappackle" in this new video, which is unbelievably off-base and close to how she misspelt it, I totally believe that she thought she had it spelt correctly and in her head it wasn't a typo.
I think so too. It was an easy mistake to spot.

Anyway, I think the only problem is the fact she expected to do better. It's telling that whenever Ruby has received a lower grade she's felt the need to blame it on some external factor - usually the marking standards of the university, e.g. ''oh, but two professors will give different marks to the same essay'' or ''I took a risk and was penalised for it'' rather than accepting that her work is imperfect and there's room for improvement. It's arrogance mixed with unrealistic expectations. Honestly, her results are great and no normal student would be upset by this.

Edit to add: Also worth noting that Ruby's Oxford interview fell flat and I'm not sure much has changed since then. Ruby's ability to think on her feet and engage critically with the subject still isn't anything special, despite the good degree from a prestigious uni.

I kind of understand now why she's embarrassed about her grade. Given 40% of her cohort got a First - which is remarkable, and no offence to someone who posted they went to Exeter, but for me calls into question the idea that Exeter marks harshly at all unless you really think the cohort at Exeter are just far superior than other top English departments like e.g. Durham - she probably wasn't near the top of the cohort. Imagine advertising for years that you spend 15 hours a day studying and you're not producing 'publishable'* work regularly? I really struggled with this on my undergrad, scraped a 2.1 despite studying really hard and couldn't work out what I was doing wrong. On both my master's degrees I worked fewer hours but got almost straight distinctions. When I was an academic, I built in sessions on study technique at the start of every academic year, the main principle being work smart not hard/long. Anyway, 76% is obviously a great grade and not one to feel ashamed of really, but I guess most people equate long working hours = top of the top grade so I get why she might feel 'entitled' to a higher one even though I'd say that's not how it works and often, in fact, the reverse.

*I have long had a bugbear with the prevailing principle that 80% at undergrad level is 'publishable' work, it's not until you're at doctorate level that you must produce work that adds something new to the field, and the only undergrad students I ever knew 'publish' articles were in those university journals. Not peer reviewed journals. I actually had a few master's students who struggled to get master's work graded at 75% into peer reviewed journals, so I really wouldn't expect much undergrad 80% work to be published without significant revisions and I do think it's unfair for tutors to keep telling students '80% is publishable'.

Wtf am I looking at? How is that her leg? Or is it not? I'm so confused.
I'm pretty sure she is *meant* to be doing a low lunge (looking at everyone else in the background) but she felt the need to do the stretch completely incorrectly and probably injure herself just to prove she is the most flexible vegan there is

The pen advert is similar to Erimentha in that she claims she’s embarrassed by it but still provides a direct link to it like wtf. Also what could anyone even take away from watching it, all it shows is her inability to move on from the past, she could’ve just said that she made an embarrassing ad when she was younger and it’s somewhere on her channel. Is she expecting people to praise her for a vid she made eons ago like she’s the next Scorsese or what
Oh yeah, I remember her saying she was "embarrassed" by her book, which was an obvious lie. She imagines that she's a brilliant writer who now considers her "early period" a bit immature but still expects to be praised for it. She never learned what was wrong with that book. She should've read the tattle summaries, cry, then learn and grow up, reread the summaries, laugh her ass off, remove her book from Amazon, join tattle, and add even more funny comments about her fanfic. Instead she keeps believing that her ultimate mission on Earth is to "raise awareness" about bullying, and the best was to achieve this goal is to write about a narcissistic, classist, arrogant character who bullies everyone for reading books with a pink cover.

I thought some of her outfits from Italy were actually nice! she had that pretty white dress with mummy bones's old toms, and that seemed age/occasion appropriate. I think she goes insane with the outfits when she's home/in her weird uni hovel with blakeney because she's not actually dressing for going out in the world and living her life and she loses all frame of reference for what makes sense and what's appropriate. Now, she's just playing pretend for the camera, but if she got a life she would have to figure out how to dress for that life

ryoobees mum is getting a bit creative with these angles
I am honestly getting complete prison/institution vibes from Ruby’s videos and Instagram right now. All we ever see are the same shots of outside taken from her bedroom window and now we have shots that are framed to look like we’re looking into Ruby’s cell. Add in the weird sloppy meals, Ruby’s odd ‘uniforms’ and I swear she wants us to think she’s in prison. She’s even taken the map off her wall because presumably that’s a reminder that there’s an outside out there …Maybe it’s all a cry for help?

Watching her new vlog, and oh my god, why is she always semi-whispering, this is so annoying. Like she's in a constant awe and about to cry, because the world is syo syo beautiful and she is syo syo lucky to be here. It's like she's pretending to be a sensitive, fine-natured heroine from Jane Austen's novel who cries because the birds are so lovely.

Also my favourite part is where Ruby is walking with a notepad and pretending to write about the sunset she's observing.
Can't wait for gossip_guy commenting the whole video, really looking forward to it!!

No, I can't:ROFLMAO: The background noise is so loud (at 5:40) that it's impossible to understand what Ruby is saying. Then she pours boiling water and tries to drink it. Why?! Doesn't she know how hot water works? She acts like a lunatic here, tbh...
Unsurprisingly, she misspelled the name of the restaurant. It's Le bontà del capo. And no the accent on the à and the single p as opposed to two aren't there just for show, Ruby.
You'd think she'd just Google it and copy-paste the name to get it right, since she went out of her way to write it out in the video (I found it in literally 2 seconds, I typed Le bon- and it was one of the first Google suggestions, must be quite a famous place) but no. Because who cares, Italian is just gibberish anyway, right?

Oh btw caffè d'orzo is a caffeine-free substitute for coffee made from barley, so I guess she hasn't actually started drinking coffee has she? I don't know why someone would drink it for any reason other than specifically to avoid caffeine.
