She is so smug, I'd expect 80 plus with all the hours she puts in.. as others have said University isn't all about grades, she hasn't made the most of it. With grade inflation I'm sure the are people in her cohort with a better overall mark who have put half the effort in.I'm disappointed to be honest, she doesn't really deserve it if her consistently poor wording and misinterpretation is anything to go by.
Well, I suppose she's got her coveted "FARRST".
You're soooo nice for thinking of us all!I would like to say to anyone feeling rubbish if they're comparing their grades to hers, Ruby has finessed the uni system, she doesn't have original thought and just copies other arguments which won't help her long time plus she has all the time in the world to dedicate to uni work/her busy work. It's much better to come out of uni with perhaps a 'lower' grade than what Ruby got but also have gained work experience, contacts, critical thinking skills and to have matured. Ruby has done none of this, all she has to show for her time at uni is a grade she is disappointed with so don't compare yourself to someone who has the privilege of dedicating their entire being to studying at the expense of becoming a well rounded person.
Also it's not like she's going to put it to use it's not like she has spent the summer applying for jobs like her fellow graduates have, her final grade is literally all she has to show for her time at uni
I'm so sorry for everything you've been through. I hope everyone you love is ok now.Tbh good on her, those results are amazing and it’s clear she worked very hard for them.
I’ll be honest, I was discouraged when I discovered how well she’d done (and that she was disappointed with her diss grade) considering I recently got a 2:1 that I worked very hard for, but then I remembered that I got that grade while juggling 2 part time jobs and dealing with my boyfriend being hospitalised twice and my close friend going missing. Ruby’s grade clearly indicates that she worked very hard, but let’s not forget how privileged she is. She can afford to spend all her time studying. She doesn’t have to worry about paying rent and she has grown up in an academic household with a private education. She is at a massive advantage compared with the average student and is still coming out of uni with relatively limited life experiences despite her stellar grades.
I also find it funny how much she stresses that numbers don’t matter while giving a paper by paper breakdown of her high marks and expressing disappointment over a solid first. Also that pterodactyl blouse.
Her inflated ego needs the validation of everything being publishable quality, when even her self published book belongs in a first draft folder that shouldn't have seen the light of day.I dont understand why she cares about getting more than 70 anyway. You can't get more than a 1st, so the number doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things?
Thanks, it's nice to be motivated by the giant moth on Ruby's bed.I tried to find out what my grade is in UK terms.don't know why but I was curious. it's an upper second something? at least my bachelor's, but I'm slightly better now in my master's and I'm still working on my thesis, so I'm not finished yet. It takes 6 months to write a master's thesis, 3 for a bachelor's thesis (I don't know if it's different in UK?).
and at the end, it shouldn't matter what grade you got. my husband, for example, got his job thanks to Xing and because of his interests and knowledge. but we live in a world where we constantly compare each other, "thanks" to social media it's easier than 20 years ago. I'm proud of what I've achieved so far and you all should be proud, because you know how you got that far. (I hope that sounds motivational. Maybe I should work as a motivational coach?)
an upper second class honours in the UK is a 2:1, the second highest degree classification, and is generally what is required for most graduate schemes and further education. As for the time it takes to write the dissertation, I did a STEM degree at undergraduate and we were given 5 months to do ours, but that included having to do all the ethics stuff (as we weren't allowed to start anything without this), create and distribute questionnaires, analyse data and then the writeup. I never followed Ruby during her dissertation writing process so I couldn't comment what hers would've entailed. As for the writeup, mine took me about 2 weeks to write from start to finish, however some students can write their dissertation in as little as a few days... Also, in a few years she'll reach a point in her life where literally no one cares about uni grades or whether she was head girl. It'll happen sooner than she probably thinks. She will have being a self published author of a novel with probably the worst characterisation of a children's novel I've ever read, full of one to two star reviews on goodreads, being sold for £1 in the discount book shop, plus her youtube channel, which despite having a lot of followers gets half the views she got 3 years ago on a good day. Meanwhile her peers who she barely spoke to will be gaining real connections and progressing in their careers, as Ruby's sat at home doing what she did for the last 4 years.I would like to say to anyone feeling rubbish if they're comparing their grades to hers, Ruby has finessed the uni system, she doesn't have original thought and just copies other arguments which won't help her long time plus she has all the time in the world to dedicate to uni work/her busy work. You expressed it way better than I could, and I completely agree with you. I won't criticize Ruby for getting a 76.At the end of the day, we should congratulate Ruby for those grades because a 76 and 70+s on every single module is outstanding and reflective of the fact she does work hard. Is a lot of it unnecessary busy work? Probably. Has she finessed the system to an extent and utilises everything to her advantage? We have evidence to suggest she does, but ultimately, that’s in the remits of the rules and I think we would all exploit the systems a bit if it worked to our advantage. I know I’ve discussed essays with friends and I imagine the majority do. A 76 is phenomenal, especially considering it’s from a top university so fair play to her.
However, for those who are comparing your grades to hers and feel disappointed, particularly in light of us always making fun of her, don’t. She’s clearly capable, can spend all her time studying and her literal brand is doing well academically. She’s scarified a lot of a social life to do that, while the rest of us may balance home lives, jobs, extracurriculars, friendships, relationships. She doesn’t have any of those distractions. Only compare your grade to yourself and if you’re happy with it, that’s what counts
But congrats Ruby. Imagine this thread will be full of bitterness and snide remarks and as much as she annoys me, not going to knock anyone for hard work and a top grade, especially when we’ve never seen a full piece of academic writing.
