Her most recent IG caption really annoys me lol, there are multiple typos. Especially given that it’s about her #gifted afternoon tea, it’s so unprofessional. Just shows how much she cares about her influencer status . If it were anyone else in any other job or a Uni assignment, we would be double checking our work to ensure it was up to a good standard. I know it sounds picky but it rubs me the wrong way when people have typos in ads.

I don't disagree but more often than not these sorts of books arent gay mens stories at all. They're usually written by females for females (or for teens), as a female fantasy of a 'cute' innocent gay relationship is like. Heartstopper is an example, as are the Love, Simon books or those Rainbow Rowell books. They all centre on mlm relationships, but have barely any gay or male readers but they do heaps of teen girl superfans. The entire genre of book is sort of fetishising and positions mlm relationships as cute and non threatening for girls to consume.
Thank you all for discussing this. I've worked in bookselling and libraries for a long time now and seen a few trends emerge in YA literature. I had wondered why books about male gay characters written by, presumably, straight female writers were so popular. The explanation makes complete sense.

Feeling extra petty today so documenting the typos. She’s a sloppy b. Do better, Rootabaga, god knows I’m giving you many more views than your lazy ass deserves.

I was about to say, it's super normal for me to have a cup of tea and a couple biscuits for a snack in the afternoon. Afternoon tea is not just that though

Do you reckon Ruby know that the meaning behind sticking out your pinky while holding a teacup is a courtesy sign you would show so that others at your tea party know that you have syphilis? Is she trying to tell us something?

Her Instagram actually distresses me. It’s like watching a sick timeline of some girl who has a progressive illness get more and more frail looking but putting on a brave face. I wonder if any of her family/close friends have actually sat down and had a frank conversation about how obvious her ED has become. I hate how in some photos you can see how dead her eyes are. Like yeah it’s easy to fake having a great life on social media, but you can’t hide everything.

She literally opened the book just to place it facing down on the bed. That book hasn't been opened or read.
I'm awaiting the inevitable 4-5 stars on Goodreads, either with no review at all, or a pointlessly vague one that repeats the pull-quotes she was handed at the screening and confirms that she didn't read it:

"Anyone who knows me knows I don't usually read graphic novels but I loved this so, so much! It's groundbreaking, honest, authentic and moving - but also joyful and fun! I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone! Also check out the TV show which is one of my most favourite series! (4 stars)"

I wonder what's wrong with her hands to make them so red and swollen. I remember her mentioning in a video that she gets to type her exams instead of writing because she can't write (?) with her hands without pain and bleeding (??). It was long ago, somebody please correct me.

Excessive counting of stolen charity cash has worn her hands to nothing.

(I think she's said before that she compulsively washes her hands, but her hands are always dirty so who knows.)

She compulsively washes them, picks at them, wrings them, and bites her nails. It's inevitable they'll be red and swollen all the time.

Ikr. It's a totally literal interpretation of afternoon tea.

''Can you spit us'' umm...Ruby, unless your followers are llamas, they don't want to spit you.

Could it be psoriasis or some other kind of skin condition?

No I agree with this. It's something they're being paid to do (i.e. a form of work) and it's so easy to check spellings. In Ruby's case it's annoying because she comes across as very money grabbing, but puts so little effort into her content.

Came back to add: FKA Twigs has released a song called Papi Bones. Sadly, I don't think it's related to Daddy Bones. Ruby wouldn't approve either (video contains twerking - *clutches pearls*). Still made me lol though.

This is actually really interesting! Someone from my uni actually wrote a paper about straight women consuming mlm fiction and they argued that a lot of women consume this type of media because no woman can get hurt. There is no place for the submission of a woman and thus it’s weirdly freeing. (Obv it is problematic, but I found that really interesting)
This also plays into a lot of the compulsory heterosexuality a lot of women (esp young, queer women / AFAB people) deal with (liking fictional male characters because they are “safer” than real men) Especially in fandom spaces a lot of queer women tend to write mlm fanfiction because of the idea that no woman is getting hurt and these men are safer than real men.

There is quite a lot of academic work done on this! Due to the way women have been represented (or NOT represented) in the past, women take on the men and apply their version of romance to them (think Wincest, Sherlock/Watson, Merlin/Arthur and other big gay male pairings from the last however long). It's why we see a lot of hurt/comfort and other types of softness in fanfiction.

Heartstopper falls into this too- the boys are incredibly sweet toward each other to the point where it is a little unrealistic, but it's not written by a man.
