What gets me is how random this is. Ruby would never in a million years watch a Netflix show like Anatomy of a Scandal. Most of her followers are probably too young to watch it anyway. So why did they have her there?

I try not to wish failure on anyone but I really hope she gets a third and realises she's not special

She probably thinks other people in her course are beneath her because their identity is not centred around being a student, while they're actually making more progress than her and getting more work done

in what world does she live in that she had the thought process that led her to believe that a cut paragraph is content worth sharing on youtube
Sshhh!

Don’t listen to @roundmidnight, Roobee, the rest of us all feel it‘s simply wonderful content and you should definitely share more! In fact, why not share your whole dissertation? 👀

As someone who has literally just submitted three critical essays I know for a fact that they're not supposed to have headings, headings are commonly used in bigger pieces of work like a dissertation. Since this is the introduction of her essay, retelling and summarising is fine at this point but she shouldn't be doing it in the rest of her essay as that's where she should be analysing and close reading the text she has chosen to write about.
Yeah, I thought so. In my essays (I'm still in second year and a distance learner so possibly things are different at Exeter/in final year) headings would not fly.

Also, I think her introduction seems a bit basic? It may be a longer essay so a longer intro which gives her the room to expand, but in no circumstances would I be recounting the plot like she is there. The introduction is, in my experience at least, for introducing the points you're going to cover. Perhaps it's just her wording.

For example: "The author, Lemony Snicket, is a pseudonym used by Daniel Handler. Handler uses Snicket in order to participate in the same world that the Baudelaires inhabit."

They're just two statements, she doesn't really link them or make a point. Instead she could write: "Handler's use of the fictional author Snicket allows him to to participate and exist within the fictional narrative to further the sense of immersion and authorial authority."

Or whatever her point is, I don't know, I haven't read A Series of Unfortunate Events, but she needs to indicate where her statements lead to explore them later in the essay. Her level of writing, if that's the final hand-in, is a lot more basic than I'd have thought. I know a lot of tutors in essay subjects such as English have different expectations in regards to structure, what an introduction and conclusion should look like, so maybe my experience is just of one preference but her introduction is more what I'd write if I was writing a book review rather than a critical essay.

Similarly she says: "This is the opening line...." and then starts the next sentence "These opening lines..." when she could make it into one point, there's no real continuation or cohesiveness of an idea, such as "This is the opening line of the first novel in A Series of Unfortunate Events, setting up the readers' expectations for the series....".

It's very thorough, saying it's a series for children with thirteen books and this is the first, but if she's not making a specific point about there being thirteen books, it doesn't need to be there. Of course I'm not expecting any especial analysis in the introduction but she should be indicating what she will be analysing and exploring, surely? From those first couple of paragraphs, all we know is that the essay is about A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The degree of regression from when she started university is quite devastating to see in truth, and I believe that the turn her dissertation has taken (from what we can see) is emblematic of the “chaos” a mental illness - namely an ED - can bring.

i suspended my own Exeter English degree months from graduation because I knew that I wasn’t well enough to do that dissertation - at least not without driving down my health to a point from which I might not be able to return.

Her waitress reel is just… with that outfit she looks like a child. I teach kids in upper KS2 and she wouldn’t look out of place there. Someone needs to intervene and fast 😔

Ascot vibes in that right-hand pic. 😅

Google search results for Ruby Granger:

I'm hoping they mean 'related' as in connected to, & are not genuinely asking if Hermione Granger - fictional character - has real-life relatives.

Dear Google Stranger, there is an incredibly niche series of YT videos just for you! *Points to Ruby* And what an odd thing to ask.
”Hermione Granger at night” sounds like a very specific sort of kink to have, and I have no doubt that longtime friend of the show Penultimate originally found her via just such a Google search.

is she aware its okay not to find beauty and joy in everything like it's okay to look a tree and think "yes thats a tree" not everything has to be this faux deep appreciation for everything. A gust of wind can sometimes just be a gust of wind she doesn't have to deep it and always make it into a glorious reminder that the world is breathing as it tangles your hair. It's good to do that sometimes but good god girl its okay to feel apathy at the mundane sometimes
This is really just a pet peeve but it also bothers me that she tries to make it seem like a universal experience by saying "you can get distracted by the blue sky" and "you don't look at all the other beautiful things" instead of "I." Like it's ok to just share your own opinion. Personally I have the complete opposite experience, when it's overcast I feel like it's depressing and I don't appreciate my surroundings as much as when it's nice and sunny. She doesn't need to justify her musings about nature by making it seem like something everyone experiences

Her and Jade annoy me SO much with this SHIT. Like yes just because you guys have finally realised that your way of studying isn't healthy nor normal you're now suddenly coming to the conclusion that "hey there are more important things than studying!!!" when you've been promoting that for years. like... most of us have been juggling jobs and other side things and already knew this. but these sheltered idiots come online and try to preach to us about things like that after sitting in their bubble enjoying being able to do nothing but study.

i can honestly see ruby now completely switching up her attitude just because SHE IS out of education now and suddenly producing videos about how studying isn't everything and grades aren't everything and like jade turn into one of those channels that try and "change the stereotype" of studying. when they are the only ones who have done this and made people want to study that much.

it's so obvious these idiots only wanted to get into oxford and no other university, for prestigious reasons, and since they both couldn't they tried so hard to pretend that they were ok with what uni they went to but absolutely were miserable because they realised they have nothing except being a "top student" image on youtube. so now they want to pretend to everyone else that it doesn't mean anything, just because they can't interact socially and have no other personality except being big headed idiots. i said what i said.
Yeah, I mentioned a week or so ago when Ruby announced she wanted to make a video about hustle culture, but Ruby's 100% going the Eve Cornwell route of positioning herself as innocent victim of a cruel system and enlightened saviour to those who don't know better.

There's a predictable hard pivot when these vapid clowns leave university where they quickly try to distance themselves from glamorising studying yourself to death, purely because they can't cling to that content anymore without looking like they've stagnated in like.

They either don't really address it, or (like Eve Cornwell did) they address it like they're pulling the wool from your eyes to expose you to some grand, universal toxic study culture that you're a victim of and only they were perceptive enough to notice and brave enough to break free off, and now they're going to enlighten you to this grand and cruel external force that's influencing you.

Eve made a pretentious, condescending video which never once addressed that she was one of the core, focal figures in the Studytube community, that she pushed that culture of toxic productivity onto her audience freely and constantly, built her brand on it, made lots of money while others suffered, and collaborated with and endorsed others who pushed the same lifestyle as bad or worse than she did. She's the problem. That whole group of Studytubers are. And suddenly coming in like a saviour only after that toxic content is no longer useful or viable for them, without acknowledging that they were a huge part of that is disgusting.

Ruby's doing the exact same thing now. Uni's over, she got the metaphorical shit kicked out of her ego with her dissertation because she's completely out of her depth when she can't cheat and she wants to pivot away from academia now. She doesn't want to learn or be challenged, she just wants praise and ego boosts, and she knows that she won't get that at Masters level if her dissertation was too hard. So first there's the gap year, then she's suddenly going to start talking about the pressures of the educational system and the impossible standards of it. And she'll switch to authortube content, where she'll peddle more lies and fabricated timelines too fool people into thinking she works harder than anyone. It's yet more lies from someone who can't stop telling them.

Yes, the academic system can be harsh and it can put immense pressure on people. But teachers and lecturers aren't out there faking videos which show themselves doing 3-5 days of work in one day to trick kids into thinking that's possible and that they're doing something wrong if they can't keep up. They're not fudging the numbers on how much it's possible to read in a day. They're not telling kids to skip every meal or study every waking moment. That's Ruby. And if she's not going to address that she was the worst part of the problem, she should shut the fuck up about the pressures of education while having the luxury of spending the rest of her life living off daddy's tax-haven stashes and stolen charity money, twirling in manor fields without a care in the world.

What an absolute cretin.

No, Ruby, if you're showing off a product or service you never use unless being rewarded for it, it doesn't matter if you only got paid for the posts before and after this one, it's still advertising.

This makes six ads this week for Perlego - a service she hasn't used since the last time she was paid to. She's the worst.

The first time I've seen this note onscreen. She must be reading Tattle. I wish she'd take the cake out of its wrapper before plonking it in a bowl of yoghurt, though.

I thought the exact same thing. Unfortunately, recommending that people eat well and regularly, then showing another tiny portion of mostly sugar as one of her sporadic meals and never showing anything else only gives impressionable viewers the idea that this is eating well and regularly.

Slapping a lip-service message on-screen does nothing when you're still pushing your dangerously stupid eating habits at every turn, Ruby.

Also, a 5 minute video with multiple ads, both declared and undeclared. What a lazy, greedy little swamp goblin.

Edit: And she's doing some "quick edits", then shows that she's finding this much shit wrong with her entire dissertation:

If you're 7+ drafts in, and it's still this fucked, it's a lost cause, Rubert.

It's not hard to see why she's constantly going well over the word count if she's including a shoddily written high school book report as the intro to every essay. It took her an entire page to say practically nothing.

One of the tabs she had open was for this:

Looks like she's been searching for synopses to read so she can skip reading the books again.

What is she smoking? 🥴

Blue skies distract us from the beauty of nature, but overcast skies allow us to appreciate the beauty of daffodils and trees?

I think she's started throwing darts at Wordsworth's Collected Poems instead of the Oxford Dictionary.
