Ruby searched the grounds of her estate for hours and hours, but was unable to find any dissertation ideas. Or her marbles.

She's been back home a couple of weeks and already half her content is her playing dress-up in her yard like a deranged child. The only trip she's taking in her gap year is off the deep end.

You know what's weird? How Ruby is posting her starved body and her tiny food portions all over the internet. I know she's an influencer so having an online persona is basically her job but still. When I was in the throes of my ED, I was so ASHAMED of how (as I saw it) fat, disgusting, and utterly shameful my body looked. I hated my photo having taken, I'd choose the baggiest outfits to hide my body, I avoided people and would have never dreamed of putting my body and food all across instagram. Ruby knows EXACTLY what she's doing and how she's looking and making people worried. And she likes it.

You can tell that her dissertation hasn't gone to plan because she hasn't done a Dissertation Diaries in ages and she hasn't fully shared her topic because she doesn't actually know herself what it is.

Sooo … Ruby makes a post referencing the climate crisis and her parents, as well as owning at least two houses (three if you count Ruby’s), and at least two cars and a camper van, are apparently in California at the moment. Not to mention Ruby’s own huge carbon footprint accrued mainly through constantly travelling between home and uni (and making her parents drive down almost every week to see her). Does she not see the hypocrisy here?
I understand that people see this as hypocritical. But please be aware that more than 70% of CO2 emissions come from only 100 companies. The individual carbon footprint is literally created by BP, an oil company. We need system change, not only individuals doing the best they can

Long time lurker here. I was in Oxford on Tuesday seeing waitress and saw Ruby in the theatre. I spotted her sister first because of the wig, and then saw Ruby. She looked like such a child, following her sister around. When she walked past the bar she dawdled, almost looking whistfully at all the food and drink - it was strange! What I’m confused about is the fact she didn’t label it #ad? She was in the section of the bar cordoned off for ‘press’ / invited guests as it was the press night, and you got complementary drinks, snacks and programmes there. Why didn’t she put gifted on her socials? Then at the end I was waking behind her and her sister and mum heading towards the car park and her sister was smoking - I wonder what ruby thinks of that!

RUBY PLSSS 💀💀 “Carroll acts as a narrator but visually fades into the background” you mean like a narrator?? Visually? You mean he wasn’t in the illustrations alongside Alice? Authors usually aren’t. And his “child-muse” (Alice Liddell I’m guessing?) was also the muse for his erotic photography. I hope she’s not glossing over Carroll’s creepy obsession with kids. It’s also a valuable waste of words to be talking about Ancient Greek muses when your diss is on the Victorian period and it’s not relevant. It could have just been a sentence but it doesn’t supplement her argument at all, it’s just a way to show off all the needless research she’s been doing.

FOREVER screaming at how superficial everything is with her. What is with that blue sky ramble? It's not like she even knows anything about nature or the environment. She never names any plants, or mentions wildlife, and I doubt she'd know a bird if it hit her in the face. So how are we actually supposed to believe any of this "oh, the beauty of nature!" nonsense? It's all a lie!!!
But Ruby studied science at A-level, so she "understands how the world works on a molecular level". Ruby doesn't see a sky or a tree. She sees the molecular Matrix code of the universe. It must be so overwhelming for her.

I'm not even convinced Ruby would be happy at Oxford if she got a place. Of course, she'd be thrilled initially, but she would still encounter all the problems she's had at Exeter - stress, disordered eating, socialising out of her comfort zone, homesickness, harmful perfectionism. It might be even worse at Oxford because of the tutorial system where you're grilled by academics who can see through waffle. Then there's the 'small fish in big tank' problem. I think Ruby would find it harder to be the best in her subject and the workload would probably be more intense. We've seen how Ruby responds more to praise and good grades than the actual course content, so there'd be less motivation to keep up if she stopped getting the positive feedback.
100% agree - I can already see the video titled "oxford university might not be the best time of your life", the "React to my first essay grade at Oxford University" with lots of crying and the "English literature student at Oxford University night routine (very productive!!)" that is filmed in her childhood bedroom and includes a somewhat frantic disclaimer about how she just had to go home for two weeks during term because it was her second cousin's birthday but she is jahnuinely so so happy at Oxford and how she just can't wait to go back and immerse herself in the dark macademia of it all once more...

The new outfit post on her instagram really helps illustrate just how much more confident she looks in anything resembling a school uniform... She's positively glowing! 😬
The tailcoat 😭

Since I've just finished my dissertation just now and it is making me wonder how is Ruby is doing with hers. How should I celebrate? Doing some twirling in the garden?

Just going to be a bit sappy but I wouldn't be able to get through this year without this group, it has kept me sane and made me laugh so much while I've been in my last year of uni.

I completely agree, but I do think the way that Ruby makes an exception for gay male (correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think she's ever discussed reading sapphic books) plays into an othering of gay men. Maybe it's a fantasy for her, but gay men are....real people, with a long history of persecution and not a tool to make Ruby (or anyone else) more comfortable with their own feelings or lack of around romance.

I understand, and I'm by no means trying to say "women shouldn't engage with mlm relationships/stories" but if that is the way she engages with them (which is what I was suspecting, but couldn't word as eloquently) then she's coming at it from a very privileged and fetishising position.
I don't disagree but more often than not these sorts of books arent gay mens stories at all. They're usually written by females for females (or for teens), as a female fantasy of a 'cute' innocent gay relationship is like. Heartstopper is an example, as are the Love, Simon books or those Rainbow Rowell books. They all centre on mlm relationships, but have barely any gay or male readers but they do heaps of teen girl superfans. The entire genre of book is sort of fetishising and positions mlm relationships as cute and non threatening for girls to consume.

Feeling extra petty today so documenting the typos. She’s a sloppy b. Do better, Rootabaga, god knows I’m giving you many more views than your lazy ass deserves.

Don't get me wrong, I think Heartstopper is a great series for LGBT+ teens. If I'd had that series when I was younger, I would have felt very happy to see myself represented. But it's not groundbreaking.

I do find it interesting how Ruby only seems to engage with queer romance - specifically gay male romance, thinking of how much she raved about Call Me By Your Name. But is that performative because she feels like she can't criticise queer romance in the same way she can heterosexual romances?
It’s probably not performative. I am making assumptions here but I think she’s uncomfortable around the idea of dating and romance. I also went to a girls school like Ruby and if you’re not sociable outside of school it can lead to you growing up unable to relate to or befriend men, perhaps even a little threatened by them. (Not saying Ruby’s attracted to men though, she could not be!) Romance novels about women or straight relationships might make Ruby uncomfortable and make her question her own feelings and aware of her own inexperience.

As she’s not a man, gay romance novels are unrelatable to her life, it’s basically like a fantasy. She can allow herself to talk about it without any of these expectations or attracting any questions about her own love life. Gay romance is really popular among a lot of teenage girls for this reason.

I know we all despair of the plinkety plonk and the neverending sugarfucking plumfairy, but let us give thanks here and now that at least she no longer slaps THIS atrocity on absolutely everything, like she did at one point. Begins around 9:05 and continues all the way through to the end.

I can't get over how in her Deadline Season video, at the end she says "...and to subsidise that, I'm going to set some timers on my phone..."

The word subsidise makes absolutely no sense in this context, what the actual fuck goes through her head when she throws these words out

Her posture looks a little odd in that dress, if she'd hold herself more confidently, she'd look incredible. But it's understandable, it's totally out of her comfort zone

why does she act like drinking and liking coffee is a character and life changing realization? Is it because her sense of self relies so superficially on the most shallow things? Is it because the farthest out of her comfort zone she ever gets is drinking a beverage she would usually not drink? Is it because she thinks in binaries all the time and you can either like coffee or tea, dogs or cats, studying or having fun?
We will never know.
