I'm calling it now - she won't last the rest of the year. She'll scrape by the remainder of this semester and end up taking the next one off
I think she's scared. and no one has taught her not to run away from fear because she's been coddled her whole life.

Unfortunately I agree. As somebody else said I think she's trying to set the stage in order to announce she'll be taking some time off. Hence why she recently started talking about not enjoying university anymore when that goes completely against the point of her channel and what she's always said.

How many times can she drop out and retake her last year
Are we going to be getting vlogs in seven years time.

Going hello this is Ruby and welcome back to my uni vlogs as always I will be daily vlogging the first two weeks off term
Don't mind the noise that's just Blankney getting her children ready for nursery

I'm dying at the suggestion that Ruby would still be living with Blakeney and her family

I also think this video is so extreme because of how much she blew changing her course out of proportion. Yes it’s a big choice but she did a whole rant in a video about how she “never ever imagined she’d drop out of her uni / course” when she did it she just changed courses to two relatively similar disciplines in their style of teaching (what I mean is it’s not like she went from humanities to stem or Business etc), now she’s having this seemingly crisis about uni as a whole I imagine maybe she regrets (or probably should) regret making that sigh a huuuuge thing because it now makes her general unease about uni as a whole that much of a bigger deal again

I had actually assumed that Ruby's rather facile comments on literature were a reflection on her abilities rather than the curriculum and teaching at Exeter but this project makes me wonder. Since when did dumbed down marketing exercises replace critical analysis in studying literature at undergrad level?
I think this kind of thing is getting more common. Next semester I'm doing a similar module in history where we think about making history accessible. Ultimately, the majority of those taking the course will not go on to be literary critics and a decent number, I imagine, will go on to be teaching or communicating English lit. However I do know that the majority of people I've talked to on my course really don't want to do this module and I think it's strange adding this assignment into a module

She said she was going back to Exeter today. Let's see if she does.

Interesting info: I found out from a current Exeter student that the uni is being really picky about who they permit to do purely online learning, and if they do allow it, they don't provide access to seminars/tutorials online, only lectures (I don't know if this is the case for all subjects though). So if Rubik's Cube decides not to return to Exeter but wants to keep going with her course, she might have an uphill battle on her hands.

Surely she wouldn’t drop out of Uni at this stage? I’m really struggling through to get my dissertation finished but the thought of dropping out now hasn’t even entered my head! Fair enough after first year, but only with a couple of months to go? Surely not!

The camera will pan out to reveal that Ruby's just living in the bushes outside Blakeney's house.

"Hello, it's Roobee and today oiy'm gyowing too bee shyowing yoo my morning routine while avoiding a restraining order. And OF COURSE, I ALWAYS stay at least 50 feet away at all times. I start by brushing my teeth while reading and watching my mostest neatest forever friend Blakeney through the window."

Yes yes, but also the world has abundant beauty and joy, and her job is to experience it, not to appear a certain way to others 🙄😂

Wouldn’t put anything past our Roobee at this point. She’ll drop out if she wants to, AND make it out to sound like anyone telling her maybe she should’ve stuck it out is just a mean old bully.

I'm amazed to see how many positive comments she's getting from this video.

It's one thing to be introverted, that's okay, but she's sending out a really bad message to her younger and impressionable viewers.
Ruby: "You have to romanticise and embrace uni culture and push yourself not to go home so much."
Commenters: "I love this Ruby, you're so right, I'm glad someone's brave enough to say it!"

Also Ruby: "Uni culture isn't great and nobody should tell you that it is, and it's okay to go home as much as possible so don't listen to anyone who says otherwise."
Same Commenters: "I love this Ruby, you're so right, I'm glad someone's brave enough to say it!"

They'll praise anything she says, regardless of how contradictory and stupid it is.

Calling it now: she will drop out to concentrate on writing her new novel (while living in her parents house to save money, so relatable!). New videos will include "Researching my Victorian Dark Academia novel | Morning Routine as a Writer", "wintery Novelist evening Routine & a dark academia Christmas", "writing a novel: notion set-up and my new fountain pens", "chatty evening routine: how I research novel ideas" and "how I plot and write using my favourite tool for writers (Kindly sponsored by Scrivener)".
I do think that being an Authortuber would be perfect for her in the worst way. I'm not sure if she's ever watched any Authortube content, but I could very easily see her turning herself into a toxic version of Kate Cavanaugh. If she sees how easily she can gamify that lifestyle and turn it into another source of self-congratulatory numbers games and toxic productivity busywork, she'll embrace it immediately. Endless word sprints, focus on word count, heavy emphasis on routines, huge amounts of planning - she can transplant her worst habits and compulsions from general studying to writing so easily.

She'll never actually succeed as an author - she doesn't have the talent or any basic writing ability and she missed the boat on getting a vanity book published through a traditional publisher. She should've embraced self-publishing, but that would've required work and marketing skills which she clearly can't be bothered with and doesn't have the skills for. But I can easily see her milking an extra few years of 'the same, but different' content out of that while indulging all the same unhealthy impulses and never actually publishing anything.

One of my close friends dropped out three weeks before her finals, having also switched courses after the first year. She went off to work and figure stuff out and then returned to uni 10 years later and thrived. The difference being she quit (for MH reasons) and proactively sought help, moved into a house share in a new city, found a job and figured out what she wanted to do through actually living life and participating in the world. I can’t see Roobee doing that at all.

Another studytuber I follow (studyquill) just posted a video all about how she’s taking a step back from youtube because she did youtube full time over the summer and got sick of watching, thinking and talking about herself. She may not have it all figured out, but I feel like she’s just miles ahead of Roobster in maturity. Thinking ahead to what she wants to do with her life, being realistic about her options, recognizing that youtube isn’t viable in the long term? Roobee could never.

I totally understand being an introvert but she doesn't realise how privileged a position she is in and that whole video just reeks 'oh go home, don't pur yourself in situations that are slightly out your comfort zone'. So many people who are introverted need money so have to put themselves in customer-facing roles and jobs which force socialisation in situations that can be uncomfortable but in turn are also really good for pushing yourself. I do worry job wise what she will do after university if she doesn't go into research roles, etc as she's never had to put herself in situations where she needs to converse and work together with people who will likely be very different to her.

Also not related to the video but all her hobbies and taste in clothing, asethetic, etc are super expensive and so out of touch monetary-wise with the average person, like all her 'aesthetics' just come from such a place of privilege and half her purchases in life are so unneccesary and seem materialistic.

I think this say everything about Ruby's mindset:

hhhhg.jpg

"You should experience the abundant beauty and joy there is to find in the world, by which I mean I don't want people saying I can't spend 24 hours a day with my parents while never going anywhere and never experiencing anything new. Do what I say, but don't listen to people who tell you to do what they say."

Her idea of freedom, growth and development is not to try new things or step outside her comfort zone, but to stop listening to people who point out how unhealthy her lifestyle is and just do whatever she wants - in this case, clinging to childhood and her parents for dear life until she starves to death. To her, stagnation and regression are personal victories against a system that's bullying her into growing up. She'll never change.

"by the way" 😂 😂

It's so weird. Why add the "by the way"? The passive-aggressive Karen vibes are strong. This has major "Well, you didn't go out of your way to say "good morning" to me, but I'll say "good morning, by the way" to you because I'm the bigger person" energy.

I really like Jasmine, she's so well-spoken and seems very mature and level-headed

It sort of feels she only said that so she could show off the apostrophe.

Yeah, that’s not going to happen with most of the UK StudyTubers, I’m afraid …

Yes, exactly! "writing xyz chapters in one day", "editing marathon", "how to really enjoy writing your book" — the video titles write themselves. It would be such a perfect continuation of her current content. I honestly don’t really see her doing anything else (even if she finishes her degree first).
