I love that someone posted in the comments of her recent video that the trunk looks mouldy and gave her tips on how to clean it xD

They don’t seem like the kind of parents that would want to send their kids to boarding school - either that or I might have to credit them with some common sense and they saw that it probably wouldn’t work for Ruby. I have always wondered if Ruby sat the entrance exam for the very, very prestigious girls’ boarding school that’s kind-of local to her and didn’t get in and that’s what she feels she missed out on, but realistically I think that it’s her Malory Towers fantasies speaking and the reality of boarding school would have been as much a disappointment as university appears to have been.

I think she would have really struggled there because it is a highly academic school and she would have been decidedly average whereas with he school they chose, it is so small and cosseted that she would get to be a big fish in a (very) small pond. That and I assume her parents were aware that she would feel very lonely at boarding school without any friends.

Obviously her parents could afford to send her to private school and it was possibly a more suitable environment for her, but I always found it a bit sus when she claimed that she passed the 11+ but then chose not to go to a grammar school...

Ruby's lessons in filmmaking and editing:

• Approach your videos like an essay you didn't prepare for or research. Insert many rambling asides and meaningless quotes. People will be so distracted by the impromptu history lesson that it'll take them a while to realise you wasted a lot of time saying nothing at all.
• Never shoot a second take of anything ever. Filmed yourself trying to put fountain nibs into small tin yet can't get them to fit? Keep the shot in anyway. That video is valuable padding to kill runtime!
• Shoot 20 minutes of B-roll. Use and reuse it for endless hours of videos.
• Video production? More like video producti-off. Proper editing will take up valuable time that could be spend thinking about or talking about yourself. Simply do a rough, blind edit while distracted by other things, like yourself and all the things you're entitled to.
• Awkward, horrendous audio of tradespeople shouting and banging in the background of your video? No problem! Don't bother with another take, or laying score in place of the bad audio. Keep all the aggressively distracting noise in, this will show people that you regularly mingle with the working classes your parents employ and don't even yell at them or have them fired (Not on camera, at least! ).
• The sun is nature's lighting. Use it always, even when it only lights you from behind and makes you look like a dead-eyed, crypt-dwelling zombie.
• Clear video titles? Pssh! Titles are merely a vague guideline - the actual video contents should be a mystery to all who click on the video, like watching a video about antique sustainable stationary and hearing someone talk at great length about the virtues of their favourite modern disposable highlighter pens and their new iPad and Apple Pencil covers.

Ruby's lessons in sustainability:

• Laptops burn electricity and could be redundant in 3-5 years. Instead, use a small forest's worth of paper blotting ink just to prepare to start thinking about writing.
• Waste card writing out twee quotes about stationery even though you're narrating said quotes for your video. So aesthetic!
• Waste paper typing needless things with typewriter. So vintage!
• Use an abundance of pointless paper planners and to-do lists while using digital planners to duplicate all the same information. So productive!
• Make sure to buy a tonne of disposable ballpoint pens alongside your fountain pens.
• Enjoy writing on paper? Be sure to waste as much paper as possible doodling and testing your ink pens and then just use your iPad, which you've dressed up like a notepad.
• Order numerous things you don't need online with the fastest delivery option possible, to ensure as much unnecessary labour, vehicle fuel and packaging is wasted.

Ruby's lessons in health and hygiene:

• Eat almost nothing. A single Love Heart will tide you over until your next small meal in three days.
• Buy things filled with mould. Don't buy a new trunk, or even a clean one. A mouldy, disgusting trunk has history, and a story to tell, like that time it was home to a decomposing corpse for several months.
• Never change your bedsheets.
• Never clean your home.

Ruby's lessons in socialising:

• When you show up to class dressed like you just stepped off the Oregon Trail and open your mouldy steamer trunk to take out your typewriter, ink pots, blotting paper, spare bonnet and abundance of other writing utensils, you'll be the talk of the class!
• You'll also take so long getting set up that the class will be extended by 2 hours, which will give you extra time to get to know your classmates.
• Asking your seat neighbours to use their desk to store all the things you don't have room for will be a great icebreaker!
• If anyone hasn't noticed you by the time the lesson starts, then each deafening CLACK of your poorly maintained typewriter will be sure to get their attention when they cower in fright at the sounds of what they assume is gunfire.
• Lie constantly. If your prospective friends aren't impressed by your fictional adventures, simply invent much grander ones.

1. Says that manufacturers make scissors in a way so that you need new ones in 5-10 years and because of that they’re not durable… Idk about you but 5-10 years is durable to me. I’m lucky if I manage not to lose scissors after 2 or 3 years.

i literally still have a pair of scissors i got for Christmas 2003... they're the small pencil case size and got me all through primary school, high school, and university!!!!

Well the new video is certainly boring, which isn't anything new.

The trunk was bleeping disgusting with the mould in it, and she got the bright idea to plunge her hand into it. Even though she cries about germs and touching gates, she has no problem with putting her hand into a mouldy trunk?

And the nails..
The state of them. If your going to make a video which for the majority of it your hands are shown, would it not occur to you to paint them properly instead of half doing it like everything.

Also OT but looks like their is no sign of that video Martha was meant to be doing with Ruby over a month ago.

It's kinda funny, I have a lot of the same tastes in "stationery" as Ruby. I did skip ahead to the pen stuff bc I am somewhat of a fountain pen geek... but god I cringe at her handwriting. I hope she takes some time to improve her penmanship if she's going to keep showing it off. It's a bit embarrassing imo (yeah I'm in a petty mood). Unsolicited fountain pen tips below

I do not suggest filling your cartridge before putting it in the pen. One because you could have leaks and two, it's good to draw the ink up through the pen nib to prime the feed so it's good to write straight away. By the way, fountain pens are actually very accessible and are not just for keeping up your pompous Dickensian appearances

Jokes aside though how utterly stupid do you have to be to open a trunk, see that it's covered in mold on the inside, and go "well, nothing to see here! Can't wait to put my clothes in here".

the paperlike is honestly really not worth the money it seems to be more of the “fashionable” one to get
i got two screen protectors that imitate paper for half the price of the paperlike, and the reviews were/are so much better!
i think it’s just sad that she doesn’t look into products before buying them, only really getting them if they fit an aesthetic or because other popular people are buying them too

I do not get why an English student would choose to write her notes by hand, either on paper or on an iPad, when typing is so much quicker, more versatile and requires less effort. I get that someone who is studying, idk, Engineering and needs to write equations or draw diagrams and stuff can only do that by hand, but Ruby is studying Eng Lit. I imagine her notes are a lot like mine. My International Law notes are 120 pages long in a Word document. Can you imagine if I wrote all of that by hand?
Then I make mindmaps and stuff by hand when I'm studying because it helps me remember but writing out extensive/discursive notes by hand I do not get at all.
