I have never seen someone mention Waking the Moon and am so excited now!! 😂

Books can inspire you- The Secret History and Waking the Moon definitely inspired my love of ancient history and helped me when I was looking for degrees, but would find that so much more interesting than useless “back to school” tips and a thousand morning routines that mean nothing.
Waking the Moon is fabulous - I reread it recently and was shocked at how well it was researched. (When I read it in my teens, I didn't know very much.) If you have any familiarity with research institutions in Washington, DC, you will recognize them in the novel. I was thinking that with some tweaking, it could actually be a successful screenplay; you might be able to guess which parts I'd like to minimize or hmm... well idk😅

I'm not ashamed to say that Waking the Moon gave me an idea for a seminar project (years after I read it)! You never know where inspiration will lead you - so I completely agree with what you've written in your second paragraph. I did write about TSH when I was working on university applications, which in retrospect is cringe, but it was in the context of an essay: I wrote about how the novel functions as a kind of reception of classical narrative patterns. The book was not popular when I was applying to uni, but it must have been obvious that I liked it a little too much. (I feel like TSH only recently became popular - is that right? I think it won some award when it first appeared, but I was barely alive then.)

Hi! long time lurker, new poster, and probably OT

sorry to beat a dead horse here, because Erimentally Damaging has been brought up countless times and shat on, but I'm always disappointed thinking of it. the title makes me think of bucket lists people make when they're disabled or terminally ill, which would have been much more engaging than watching Erimentha witch about her peers for 30 chapters.

maybe she's moving away, maybe she's got some degenerative disease and her eyes are going. the book could've been about her trying to make the most of her life in the most stereotypical way (reading a ton, appreciating nature but in a way that's so forced it makes me wince), hence making a tit ton of to do lists and trying to cram everything into her day, even if all the things she does is useless. she isolates herself so she can pursue hobbies she thinks she can't pursue for much longer, and she plans for so much, even social interactions, because she doesn't want to waste a second of her limited time.

but then along the way she realizes realizes it's not working. she thinks that hey, maybe she's just wasting time. but then she clings harder to the to do list making, even if it's starting to scare her and make her anxious, because how else is she going to spend her time? she doesn't want to confront the fact that she wasted so much time on useless tit, time she could have spent actually having fun, so she goes harder.

sorry for a random idea, was just something that came to mind, typed out in a rush

According to gg it was May 15th 2019 that she uploaded the announcement video, I’m not sure if wayback machine will allow you to see deleted yt videos though. If anyone watched it and remembers it, I’d be very curious to know how she did the announcement / what she said!
Out of curiosity, I did go on the Waybackmachine and there are only 7 saves of her channel. None of them are in may 2019 so you can't find the deleted video. If you search hard enough someone probably has a reupload somewhere. Found this gem though

Oh yes, because when I'm ill I want to focus on acting like a fictional character! Even when convalescing your main priority should be roleplaying productively. Thank you Ruby!

She said something about how she wouldn't live there yet but would after uni? She gave a little tour and that was it. Which is like...why would you purchase a house yet then lol. Why not wait until you graduate instead of having a house sit around waiting for you?
Because it will increase in value. I suspect Daddy Bones gave her advice to invest her YT income. Chances are she will never live there.

From what i remember, she titled the video 'buying my first house at 18'. Think it's a cottage in a village near her parents house and she's planning on renting it out until she finishes Uni. There was also another video where she spent the night there but that was cut short because she didn't like being alone in the cottage.

I can't see her living there after uni. Living in the middle of nowhere, with no driving licence and she doesn't like being alone there? Not to mention presumably she will have/want to find a job of some kind (unless she plans to rehash YT content forever) so a town or city would be better (regardless of what she might think now). Nah, to me it looks like it's purely a financial decision so that later on she can cash out. It's probably on AirBnB or something and she took the video down so you can't identify it.

I can see her trying to do a PHD after her MA, to try and prolong the studying (Aka school) experience as long as possible. So the cottage will likely be derelict this by then! Does she ever talk about maintaining it? Or leasing it out for that matter?

Given that we have a housing crisis in this country and she claims to be left-leaning, if the cottage is just say their empty it will be up there with #ProductiveSlowLiving as one of her other biggest hypocrisies.

Yeah Ruby can't handle being alone in an apartment in a busy city. I cannot imagine her permanently living alone in a cottage in the middle of nowhere. I for one would be a bit unsettled ngl. And you cannot live in a place like that without a license and a car. Unless she plans to rely on her parents to chaffeur her around forever.

That actually sounds like a great story!
But it would require Ruby to put herself in another person's shoes.

And we all know the only shoes she's interested in are school shoes. (Does anyone remember when she was raving about a quote like "her hair was as black as school shoes"?"

Sorry to be a bit off topic again, but I've been reading through all the threads and found this video as people were talking about a puppy called Lola, and I just want to say...wtf is this breathing in the audio? I actually had to pause the video and rewind it to make sure it was from this video. Edit- and yes this video is old from 2018 but it's just really strange to me.

That whole video was just so wrong in so many ways but who puts labels in their fridge and why would you do that in your parents fridge?

I think the cottage is tenanted. So better than empty but Ruby/Ruby’s company being a landlord is a bit at odds with her public image.
