Since reading on here about the Rep Ladies thread on Reddit I have been reading through their posts - not to buy fakes but just because I’m nosy.

Here is a pic from there of 2 jumbo Chanel flaps - one a ‘high end’ replica and one real one bought in 2009. I don’t own any Chanel myself so in no way an expert but I really doubt you would be able to see a difference unless you really really studied it. The insides are identical too.

Just sounds salty tbh, most people can’t tell them apart, they look the same. Quality isn’t but they LOOK the same. Money buys quality. That’s literally common sense. I’ve never owned a fake but what a first world problem to be spiteful that u spent £3000 on a little bag and someone else didn’t lmao. It’s literally just a bag. Wild that this thread was made because people innocently wanted to discuss finding replicas and others swarmed in on their high horses because apparently these designer brands are completely ethical themselves right?

a lot of people can actually tell them apart. If we’re talking about money buying quality, you have to realise, that fake bags will have different materials then, to be affordable - therefore it’s impossible for them to look exactly the same.

also, I can also buy fake bags if I wanted to, so I’m not spiteful in the slightest that someone spent way less than I did on a designer bag.

also, people are not “innocently” discussing fake bags, it’s extremely unethical. Besides the points, how would you feel if you worked so hard to make something you love and became successful, just to have someone rip off your designs?

Haha shows how much I know! They were all raving about the hardware saying it’s so spot on but obviously not if it’s that easy to spot.

you also mentioned the real one was bought in 2009. If that’s the case, it should be made with real gold, and if I zoom in, I think I can see the gold stamping on the lock, on the right bag. The fake one doesn’t have this, hence why I could tell quite easily

although obviously this wouldn’t be a distinguishing point if both bags weren’t together. Just something I picked up on in the image!

Human trafficking aside, that's a whole different topic for another thread and goes wayyyy beyond if someone has a Louis Vuitton or a Louis Gone-wrong.

Why are you so bothered what one chooses to do with their money? Ofc you can get the classic 'Chanel' or 'LV' bags but aside form that fashion constantly changes and if someone loves a designer bag and wants to pay for a decent fake then just let them... it will probably last 2 months which is the same amount of time it will be the 'new hot bag' in the teal designer world. Some people are so stuck up and rude. I wonder how many have actually had 'mummy and daddy' buy their designer bags - I know one too many people like this with the same attitude!

I always try to find dupes first, so like if PLT or Topshop are doing their own version.

If not then I use VOVA.. It's very good I recommend, you can only find the fakes on the app. The products have reviews so you can decide which one to go with and what it looks like. The more you pay the better the fake

Your assumptions are hilarious. Personally I’ve never had mummy and daddy buy me anything, I’ve worked for whatever I’ve wanted. It’s not about snobbery at all and what’s quite funny on this thread is actually that those buying the fakes seem to think they are somehow better than those who buy genuine because they are getting ‘the same thing’ for less and we who buy genuine are the stupid ones because we pay more I don’t buy into latest trends, most of my bags I see as investments that will grow with me and last for years to come.

It’s not a whole different topic though, is it? There are direct links between counterfeit designer goods, human trafficking and terrorism. It’s been said so many times on this thread and yet it’s a point either badly deflected or ignored.

Why do the defenders of fake bags keep trying to turn this into an issue of snobbery or jealousy from the posters who don’t approve of counterfeit goods? I’ll say it again - just admit you’d rather have a fake designer bag than worry about what crimes you might be funding with the money you paid for it.

I don’t have my “mummy and daddy” buying me anything but honestly, I would judge the people who’s parents bought them genuine designer goods far, far less than those who bought counterfeit goods knowing damn well that they’re helping to fund serious, violent crime.

I didn't assume anything. I simply said 'I wonder' because of my personal experience knowing people this this. There has been some very snobby comments. I couldn't care less who buys fakes and who doesn't and neither should anyone else

No one here judged you for owning a primark bag, because it is authentic and genuine. The whole issue was about fake designer bags, how they’re unethical and the crimes they help fund.

Stop letting your own personal experiences influence the way you see people on this thread (aka snobby witches who get ‘mummy and daddy’ to buy them designer bags).

Finally, terrorism and similar crimes do not go “way past designer bags”, there is a direct, causal link between them. I’ve attached an article that shows counterfeit goods represent 10% of world trade (between $250-500 billion) - more than drugs and prostitution combined. And if you read the report, it gives many examples of how fake bags directly caused terrorists to purchase weapons for crimes. I’ve attached one page of the article.

That’s a very valid point and I’m aware primark is one of the worst I’m just making a point that I wouldn’t judge someone for their bag not being designer.

There was actually two comments which were very snobby, the rest were not.

I think you are taking my comment about 'it going way past designer bags' the complete wrong way. I meant that I think it's an interesting topic in how everyday things we may not realize contributes to human/child trafficking, not that fake bags don't matter in the situation. I actually had no idea it happened until this thread but I bet there's so much more than fake bags which I am also unaware of.

On RepLadies there are so many girls who are sugar babies and a bunch of others advocating for that lifestyle... literally made me want to puke in my mouth. When they do things like low key prostitute (i.e. being a sugar baby) it's no surprise they'd support other unethical/ downright illegal things. Doing disgusting things like this and then wearing luxury items can NEVER buy class.

Also whenever someone would call out others about how their lifestyle or car doesn't match their spending habits/bags which make it obvious/easy to spot fakes they get so defensive...

Someone made a comment about how flexing a LOVE bracelet in a raggedy Volkswagen makes it obvious that it's not a real bracelet among flexing other luxury things. And these were the comments:

Also my fave part is this one chick who was acting like an A5 is equivalent to a Rolls Royce. I know people who have luxury cars like a Maserati and don't have a Birkin bag.

Even if there bags are close to the real deal and people can't see fine details from afar but people will obviously be able to tell when their bags/clothings is not reflective of their lifestyle (i.e. job, car, house...). That's just my two cents on this topic.
