Why child trafficking & terrorism is rife is a whole other issue. Fakes and replicas just contribute to it.
And to the people who “couldn’t care less” about the fake industry ... ignorance is bliss!

Totally agree. It’s all to look rich hence why they go for those brands, what’s wrong with a nice bracelet that’s within your budget? And the whole purpose of a love bracelet is for someone to buy it for you as a symbol of love no? Mine are anyway. Why would you go out and by yourself a fake 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is , I was gifted a hand made bracelet by local jeweller for a fraction of the cost it is pretty and unique and it was made just for me. Cost about £250.

I wouldn’t judge anyone who has a primark or other high street bag even if it was a dupe/in the style of a designer bag, at least you are owning it and not pretending it’s something that it isn’t.
Should we talk about slave labor in the fast fashion industry here too? I also heard that fashion industry is in the top 3 industries that make the most waste.

There’s no such thing as a 1:1 replica, if there is then post the photos of yours, I’ve looked through loads of photos on reddit with 9+* reviews and in my eyes you can tell they’re a fake.

Came here for a nosy after reading MM thread and glad to see people share the same opinion as me.

Same for me I’ve wanted a Chanel for years and it will be a long time before I can get one, but will you ever have the same satisfaction buying a cheap knock off? Most likely not.
Exactly, there are crap fakes and good fakes but no one hand sewing a fake and using identical materials and selling for a few hundred pounds. No one does 1:1, sounds like a salespersons line.
I am on a wait list for a bag and think the wait may be half the fun, like Christmas. No way a phony would feel the same. I don't have to worry about it being taken away by border control either.

Chanel and Hermes are def more exclusive, I have seen a few people with Chanel flaps but they mostly rich international (mostly Asian) students (I live in a uni town). LV, Prada and Gucci are so common these days. I didn't notice it before but I def noticed it now especially when our government started handing out thousands (minimum $5-8k/person) to literally EVERYone. Not sure if coincidence or not...
Damn what government is this? 😂 I totally get you, I see LV bags often, Gucci bags allllll the time. I don’t see Chanel bags out in the wild much, and I’ve only seen a Hermes birkin once really. The constant price increases keep Chanel and Hermes exclusive however. Although LV seems to be doing price increases so frequently these days

it's confusing to me that people think you can't spend less for similar quality for these bags when the quality of so many designer bags has decreased massively and they keep on increasing the prices.

totally agree! Someone made a great analogy here earlier that if you see a house or a car you can’t afford, you simply accept it’s out of your budget and move on to something within your price range. Why is it not the same for luxury items? Also I have a question for women who buy fakes - if someone “calls you out” or asks whether your item is real, do you say yes? Or do you admit it’s not?
It was me that said that I wanted to respond to the Love bracelet question when I checked back in to see what I had missed (can’t help myself) with the same line but I thought I’d keep my mouth shut for once 😬

But there is something deeply psychological/sociological happening in our society that is making people feel the need to create this false image by any means necessary.
My point throughout this thread, it’s something I will never understand. I get that the higher end/more expensive things more often look better but it’s the ‘look rich’ when you’re not and doing some low level shit that is disturbing to me. I do blame social media.

i mentioned them earlier on this thread, they’re amazing!! What bag did you get?

and what bag are you looking at for this year? There’s a new “designer items” thread where we discuss bags if you wanna chat on there! But yeah, luxury promise are soooo good and pretty affordable for second hand!
It's got to be the LV neverfull! They did a range with cats on the bags the other year and the temptation to dip into my house fund pot was high but I didn't 🤣. I got a LV crossbody bag and it came on my final allowed trip to London earlier in December it's very pretty lol

Not sure where you live but I travelled to London to buy my LV and went to their store on Bond Street. The customer service is the best I’ve ever received. Give you time to sit with a drink, bring products to you so you can compare them if deciding between a couple and they take you to a separate and more private area to pay. On one occasion I purchased a passport cover and was treated exactly the same spending £150 as I did when I was spending £850. Wonderful service
I'm not far from London and walked past that LV shop many, many times swooning at it so that will 100% be where I go!

I’m actually so excited for you, nothing like going into the store to buy your first bag it’s an experience you won’t forget 🤗
I can't wait. I've only ever had a Bicester village experience but I know it's not the same. I've had a tiffany experience in London & NY but I feel this will be super special!

is it true lv burn there left over materials that’s a rumour ive always wondered about and if designer villages like bicster sell clothes that didn’t make the cut ( wasn’t finished to perfection ) ?
Yes. Burberry do this too.

No, Bicester village sell off season items, or unpopular styles. I hardly ever see anything classic when I go there. But you can get some real bargains!

Wow just fallen down a rabbit hole about this! The purseforum comments are brutal but I can imagine that selling genuine samples and packaging on eBay and then begging for BKC via email don’t really go hand in hand 😬

I feel bad for her because she’s clearly attaching a lot of happiness/self worth to getting her dream bag.. with her comments about mental health though I doubt even getting that would make her happy. She quite clearly compares herself to someone else who did get the bag offers but she wouldn’t know how much that person spent either? Just the length of time she’s patronised the store..

I think the issue is there’s no prescription for success with most luxury retail. I spend what I’m sure is a very small amount in comparison to other customers at my favourite jewellers but I still get gifts from my SA/complimentary stuff because we have a really great relationship.

She obviously has more disposable income than I could ever imagine.. if I were her I would just buy preloved, no one would have me dropping £100k, jumping through hoops/begging to buy a bag. Surely the ones she did have would be tarnished now with this experience.

You could pay £2000 believing you’re buying a genuine LV, when it’s actually an extremely well made counterfeit. But it’s still a fake.

For me personally if the real thing isn’t attainable like a Hermes Birkin or even electrum, or a Chanel classic then I’ll go without I wouldn’t even buy a dupe from new look or wherever.

slight derail- but has anyone had bad experience with premium brands? I’ll NEVER purchase a mulberry bag after their studded straps on the Theresa bag stretched it become unusable, they wanted me to pay for a new strap within 12m of owning it.

Since reading on here about the Rep Ladies thread on Reddit I have been reading through their posts - not to buy fakes but just because I’m nosy.

Here is a pic from there of 2 jumbo Chanel flaps - one a ‘high end’ replica and one real one bought in 2009. I don’t own any Chanel myself so in no way an expert but I really doubt you would be able to see a difference unless you really really studied it. The insides are identical too.

(I hope I’m allowed to post this, as Reddit is a public website I assume it’s ok!?)

the neverful is gorgeous!! My cousin recently bought one after having a baby and uses it as her “baby bag”, she says it’s so roomy and the best purchase she made! It’s such a classic too, you won’t regret it ☺

Left is an authentic and right is her bag:

What I spotted straight away was the chain that runs along the bag is on the wrong side of the chain that goes up to the shoulder. On the real bag on the left it runs in front of the chain whereas on the bag on the right it sits behind

Don't participate in either, but I think there is a middle ground. If spending thousands on a bag makes you feel special, you do you. All of these designer brands seem to be raising their price ranges, not because the quality is increasing or they are paying their staff more, but to become more exclusive. A lot of these designer brands also seem to be going down the fast fashion route, but at Chanel not Primark prices which encourages the resale market when things are out of trend. At the end of the day the lambs that are bred and slaughtered to make these accessories don't exactly care that you can claim it's more ethical because you are paying a premium for their skins.

There is lots of unethical moves in production, be it food, clothing or otherwise. No one cares that their chocolate has a high chance of being part of a supply chain that uses child slavery. If people want to purchase replica's then that is there choice, buying designer isn't exactly ethical at the end of the day either, and it does come down to people wanting to feel superior, to try and "catch out" those who can't or don't want to spend thousands. As said, neither is my choice, but it does all seem hypocritical people arguing over who is the most conscious consumer when it comes to animal skins and when a lot of these big houses are using labour from China which is hardly known for it's ethicacy
Actually, a lot of this is inaccurate.

First of all, lots of people DO care about what chocolate they consume, as per your example. I know I try my hardest to shop as ethically as possible in every avenue of my life, so to see someone try to compare their purchase of replica designer bags that they do not need with me possibly buying less than ethical meat because it’s all I can get hold of in a pinch, is somewhat laughable.

More importantly, however, is the fact that the dirty business of replicas is more complicated than some are suggesting. There is a lot of research that suggests that replicas fund organised crime, child trafficking and drug trade. It is far murkier than the average fashion brand.

There is also the fact that counterfeit productions do not pay their way fairly - so although pretty much ALL of the fashion industry, from high end to low end, are somewhat culpable in exploiting slave labour, they at least do pay their taxes and fair rents, pay for their design talent, at least attempt to source more ethical materials and off set carbon footprints. Many donate to charities, work on awareness campaigns etc. You can’t make the argument that they’re all as bad as each other, because it’s simply not true - fashion is bad, counterfeit is worse.

I will never understand the concept that so many seem to think “well, I can’t shop perfectly ethically anywhere, so I’ll just give up and spend all my money on the worst possible stuff in terms of ethics”. It makes no sense to me. No, I’m not a perfect consumer, because that’s impossible - but I do my research and do my best to shop ethically, and I will continue to judge those who use cognitive dissonance and inaccurate arguments to defend the fact that ultimately, they care more about having a status bag than anything else.

I’m not on my high horse about having “proper” designer bags because I’m not that into them.

Omg I just can’t with these comments sorry 😂 people can afford to buy authentic but choose not to. My friend is a partner at a magic circle law firm, taking home 6 figures a year and has an entire collection of replica handbags 😂

I have over 20 authentic bags, 4 of which have broken or have deteriorated before their time so I decided to stop paying 1-3k for a bag and buy high tier replicas. Funnily enough, none of my replicas have ever broken nor are any of my replica bags plastic 😂😂

I don’t know why people feel the need to shame other people for what they choose to spend their money on and insulting people by suggesting they’re money poor because they don’t buy designer handbags 😂 and even if you are poor, what tf is this exclusivity that only rich people or those who save up are allowed designer items??

Would you go for another LV? I love my Speedy 25
Just out of curiosity, if someone was to ask if your non plastic, fake bag is real, what do you tell them?

Maybe we could make a thread for designer bag chat!? I don’t think there is one already?
Good idea. Keep this for the plastic lovers 😉

that is next level disgusting.
Speaking of disgusting things seen on that forum. I just came across this...

JESUS CHRIST!
Oh GOD.... the story is longer but I am too disturbed and don't want yall to vomit if you read anymore past this.

Either she is selling it to pass off as real
The one thing I would never tolerate with these fake things is when people sell fake things and claim it's real. That's actually fraud and illegal. I have seen obvious knock offs on eBay (box and bag looked fake asf) but was bidding really high. I even reported it to eBay but they never took it down, no surprise they want that commission from the sale. Personally, I would never buy a used bag because it always runs the risk of being fake. It's best to save up and buy a brand new bag straight from the official website or hold off until sale time if you need to save $$$.
