On RepLadies there are so many girls who are sugar babies and a bunch of others advocating for that lifestyle... literally made me want to puke in my mouth. When they do things like low key prostitute (i.e. being a sugar baby) it's no surprise they'd support other unethical/ downright illegal things. Doing disgusting things like this and then wearing luxury items can NEVER buy class.

Also whenever someone would call out others about how their lifestyle or car doesn't match their spending habits/bags which make it obvious/easy to spot fakes they get so defensive...

Someone made a comment about how flexing a LOVE bracelet in a raggedy Volkswagen makes it obvious that it's not a real bracelet among flexing other luxury things. And these were the comments:

Also my fave part is this one chick who was acting like an A5 is equivalent to a Rolls Royce. I know people who have luxury cars like a Maserati and don't have a Birkin bag.

Even if there bags are close to the real deal and people can't see fine details from afar but people will obviously be able to tell when their bags/clothings is not reflective of their lifestyle (i.e. job, car, house...). That's just my two cents on this topic.

I just love how every single person who buys fakes comes on and deliberately ignores the actual valid criticism of replicas, and uses the same old tired non-arguments to try and defend themselves. The cognitive dissonance is staggering.

Don't participate in either, but I think there is a middle ground. If spending thousands on a bag makes you feel special, you do you. All of these designer brands seem to be raising their price ranges, not because the quality is increasing or they are paying their staff more, but to become more exclusive. A lot of these designer brands also seem to be going down the fast fashion route, but at Chanel not Primark prices which encourages the resale market when things are out of trend. At the end of the day the lambs that are bred and slaughtered to make these accessories don't exactly care that you can claim it's more ethical because you are paying a premium for their skins.

There is lots of unethical moves in production, be it food, clothing or otherwise. No one cares that their chocolate has a high chance of being part of a supply chain that uses child slavery. If people want to purchase replica's then that is there choice, buying designer isn't exactly ethical at the end of the day either, and it does come down to people wanting to feel superior, to try and "catch out" those who can't or don't want to spend thousands. As said, neither is my choice, but it does all seem hypocritical people arguing over who is the most conscious consumer when it comes to animal skins and when a lot of these big houses are using labour from China which is hardly known for it's ethicacy

I feel like people who buy replicas use that excuse all the time ‘I have real designer & the quality was terrible it broke & my replica has never ever broken’ sorry I call BS.
If you make a designer purchase and the quality isn’t satisfactory you take it back into the shop and they will sort out any issues for you.
If you buy a replica and it breaks it goes in the bin.

Not the case but thanks for suggesting I’m lying I had a Gucci Soho Disco for 4 months before the strap snapped off. They refused to fix it for free or exchange for a new bag so I had to pay for it to be fixed, not at the Gucci store I may add as they weren’t getting a penny more of my money.

I have quite a few designer bags and so far, they’re all going great! I’ve never had anything break on me. So I can definitely say the quality is amazing. I think the canvas from Louis Vuitton is pretty much indestructible. I use my LV bag so so much, in snow, in heat, and I’m not careful with my bags either (I paid for them, why not enjoy them?!). So I’d really recommend Louis Vuitton bags

however I did have the straps fray just a little on my YSL tote, but I used that bag to death seriously overstuffed it for long haul flights, so I can see why.

totally agree! Someone made a great analogy here earlier that if you see a house or a car you can’t afford, you simply accept it’s out of your budget and move on to something within your price range. Why is it not the same for luxury items? Also I have a question for women who buy fakes - if someone “calls you out” or asks whether your item is real, do you say yes? Or do you admit it’s not?

I'm not sure what your financial background is, so maybe you are not around these types, but there are A LOT of people out there that buy homes and cars out of their price range. Have you ever heard of being "house poor"? It's when you buy a house out of your price range and are left without money to pay for other essential needs in your life. There are people who live with their parents at 30 just so they can own a luxury car to appear wealthy to their contemporaries.

Yes, many people accept things are out of their budget and move on. I'm that way and it sounds like you are too. But there is something deeply psychological/sociological happening in our society that is making people feel the need to create this false image by any means necessary.

Louis Vuitton customer service is amazing! I have a pair of LV trainers, had them a year and they split across the front where your foot bends and creases the shoe- they just straight up replaced them. Marvellous!

Not just the replica industry but the authentic designer brands too... they all somehow turned into fast fashion. Instagram is the main reason for this and there's constantly a new "it bag" every few months or so.
Everywhere I look I see someone with a designer bag but 5-10 years ago I barely saw any and it was mostly the usual MK, Kate Spade, Coach.... and only a few people would be seen with high tier luxury brands. These days even kids in High School are somehow able to get a PSM (worth over $2k) among many other things. Unpopular opinion: but I am starting to not care for or want to spend money on luxury bags if it's something everyone and their grandma has... it just doesn't feel special anymore (at least to me). I am starting to believe that high-end designer bags will soon no longer be a symbol of wealth or luxury. I honestly rather spend the money towards buying stocks, crypto, real estate.... and turning money into more money rather than buying things that are pretty much common and nothing exclusive/special these days.

I agree, they do thrive, but they also keep increasing their prices so the exclusivity remains. Chanel’s classic flap has increased massively over the years, which ultimately excludes people who can’t afford the new price. I do agree with you in sense that, if everyone and their dog had a certain bag it puts me off, (such as the LV neverfull - sorry if people here have it!), it put me off a little, so I went for a similar bag style, but a different brand - the YSL tote.

but I’m also really easily influenced I try not to invest in new “it” bags or new trends and stick with the classics that never go out of style

a lot of people can actually tell them apart. If we’re talking about money buying quality, you have to realise, that fake bags will have different materials then, to be affordable - therefore it’s impossible for them to look exactly the same.

also, I can also buy fake bags if I wanted to, so I’m not spiteful in the slightest that someone spent way less than I did on a designer bag.

also, people are not “innocently” discussing fake bags, it’s extremely unethical. Besides the points, how would you feel if you worked so hard to make something you love and became successful, just to have someone rip off your designs?

Since reading on here about the Rep Ladies thread on Reddit I have been reading through their posts - not to buy fakes but just because I’m nosy.

Here is a pic from there of 2 jumbo Chanel flaps - one a ‘high end’ replica and one real one bought in 2009. I don’t own any Chanel myself so in no way an expert but I really doubt you would be able to see a difference unless you really really studied it. The insides are identical too.

So I went on this forum on Reddit to see what it’s all about since it’s being spoken on here and I came across this....

A lady went to the Cartier store and tried on the bracelet she liked, memorised the serial number and then got a fake cartier bracelet made and requested that the serial number on the inside to be the same as the real bracelet. I am lost for words....that is next level disgusting. Either she is selling it to pass off as real, and the genuine bracelet comes up when it’s typed into the system, or she’s seriously tacky. I feel sorry for whoever bought the real bracelet from the store (unless it was a show piece), and some crazy lady is flaunting her fake bracelet.

as someone who has purchased authentic love bracelets, I would be furious if someone stole my serial number. I read further, and they also steal serial numbers from sites like the purse forum

I had a Christopher Kane bag that the strap snapped off constantly, took six months for them to fix it and I still don’t like using it as I’m scared it’ll happen again. Also had a McQueen bag that broke after a while. I just don’t want to pay thousands on things that just break, when you can pay about £150 for a copy that’s just as well crafted. Plus it means you can actually take it out without worrying about it!

OK. But for clarification I didn’t see anyone saying anything nasty about women who chose sex work. I for one wholly respect the game. It’s not a life I would choose for myself but sex is sex it’s something that most people do and if you find yourself in a position that you need to use it to make money or you’re comfortable with selling it then you do you. What I don’t like though is girls who do some mad extreme shit for extra pounds (I know most of you know what I’m talking about) and go stunt on Instagram without revealing the truth as to where they get the funds from and leave young girls perplexed as to why they are not living the same life. I would tell them to mind their own business what person on the street asks someone if their bag is real or not. However, my friends and family know I buy reps and have also since stopped buying authentic

I should say, I do also own a real Mulberry Bayswater bag and purse, an Aspinal bag I use for work and Longchamp totes/holdalls (not sure if they are classed as designer or not but they aren’t cheap!). I do appreciate quality and will spend the money if I know I’m going to use it a lot. When I bought the pochette metis I was after a crossbody bag and thought I could either spend £50 on one from the high street or £50 on a fake so I went with the fake

Also I’m rubbish with scarves and jewellery and just lose/break them so I don’t want to spend hundreds and just get fakes

Edited to add that I am aware of how unethical the fake goods market is and I do feel very hypocritical owning fakes since I am so very against buying things from Boohoo/PLT etc. It’s definitely something to consider when buying

you can buy any regular gold bracelet from the jewellers, from Etsy etc. Doesn’t have to be fake Cartier. Or if you really want a Cartier bracelet, there are some on the resell market you can look into that are more affordable
