I made my first rep purchase a few weeks ago from DHG - a 34cm GG Ophidia, I was swayed by the many rave reviews, and the fact many reviewers say it's real leather accenting on the bag. I also ordered a "mystery bag" - the seller of both is mangopurses / mango89711 on DHGate.

I actually don't know if the Ophidia style I ordered is a "fantasy bag" (the term reviewers use for items that don't actually exist in their authentic form!) but I like the look, it's reasonably big and I love the GG monogram / Gucci stripe colours.

It arrived after nearly three weeks and I was excited! The handbag came in a nice cotton-y "Gucci" dust bag...but...it had a sticker on top of it that said proudly, "PVC" in English, amongst other Chinese lettering. So I was disappointed even before I opened it - as that pretty much proves it's not leather.

The bag seems reasonably well made, stitched, and the monogram is quite neat - the GG emblem looks pretty good too. Unfortunately it has a metal padlock on it, where you attach the zipper, and no key inside the clochette (I now know this is common with cheaper reps). There is a metal press button which has a Chinese brand "Guang-Tong" when you look underneath (though, you can't really call that a "tell" as you can't see it unless you hunt for it).

Got a "free scarf" with the handbag, which was a pink GG twilly (quite cute and nice of the seller, I thought).

The inner zip seems to be faulty, though I'm going to try to fix or replace it. The lining is cotton/canvas with a stitched branded label on the bottom (in either leather or PU, not sure!).

The "mystery bag" was in great packaging, and turned out to be the matching purse (which was very thoughtful!) - the Gucci box it came in looks excellent, though I can't compare it to a real one, it could pass as authentic if you're unaware - though there was also a sticker on the side of the box in Chinese (weirdly, it said "leather" on it in English this time!). Unfortunately, the metal GGs, zipper and zipper pull are very yellow, which looks very noticeable next to the matching bag.

I did open a dispute as I thought the misleading reviews (about the leather) and the broken zipper weren't great. As I expected, the seller kept rejecting my pleas for a compromise and just wanted me to return it - but DHG's customer service helped and I got a partial refund. Having had bad experiences with Aliexpress, this was a nice surprise, and DHG will keep me as a customer.

Going to research Reddit, etc, more carefully next time!

I have Old Cobbler's Facebook Group and have been messaging Maryya today, but have seen some bad feedback about them lately. There's another DHG seller who seems to be getting better reviews from Youtube and even Reddit, so may go with them next (RAINBOW BAGS Store) - but I haven't pressed Buy yet.

So, half-pleased, half-disappointed (and I do think some DHG reviews are fake, especially if they give misleading information).

So would you have the same response if someone asked if your real bag was fake? Is that your response because you’re reluctant to admit your bag is fake?

I know someone who has a few classic replicas. If you style it right no one will know. The only issue is getting them through customs atm it is hard due to covid-19 they are being a lot stricter .

There is also the fact that counterfeit productions do not pay their way fairly - so although pretty much ALL of the fashion industry, from high end to low end, are somewhat culpable in exploiting slave labour, they at least do pay their taxes and fair rents, pay for their design talent, at least attempt to source more ethical materials and off set carbon footprints. Many donate to charities, work on awou can’t make the argument that they’re all as bad as each other, because it’s simply not true - fashion is bad, counterfeit is worse.

I will never understand the concept that so many seem to think “well, I can’t shop perfectly ethically anywhere, so I’ll just give up and spend all my money on the worst possible stuff in terms of ethics”. It makes no sense to me.
Agree that people should make the best choices they can afford, and ethical consumption should be more accessible. But, using the example of chocolate, there is quite a cost leap from buying a Nestle Kit Kat to a vegan brand chocolate bar that is certified fair trade and is involved in ensuring their goods aren't promoting inequalities. Just because a designer brand donates to charity and pays their rent and design staff doesn't make them without criticism. They have a huge profit margin, exploiting a consumer base that will remain loyal no matter how illogical the cost. When Chanel raises their prices, people moan, they don't go further by asking where this money is going and if it is justified. There are lots of ethical companies that are relatively pricey, because they are transparent about paying their staff fairly and using non-exploitative materials.

At the end of the day, this is all about animal skins, and no matter how much the fashion houses charge for the bags, a sheep, a crocodile etc had to die so people can flex or so people can participate in a trend, can that ever be ethical?

I use an app called Vova - has loads of replica bags, jewellery etc at a range of prices. There are reviews which is really handy to see what others think before you buy. Things might take about a month to come as most come from China I think. I’ve taken a screenshot so you can see what it looks like from the App Store because there are a few!!

What have you bought from there? Have you had any problems with shipping or quality? Just trying to get a good picture before I order anything.

All resale sites have replicas being sold as authentic, there are hundreds of cases where this has happened and still happens. I’m not parting with 1k for a bag that is potentially a replica when I can just buy the replica straight up for a lot less
Yeah I bought shoes second hand authentic Yeezy’s that were quite clearly fake. Weirdly the seller was still claiming they were real but gave me the money back and told me to keep them?!

I bought my partner some Supreme things off StockX as they sell out so quick on release day and I question them as well! Has anyone bought from StockX? Although Supreme is dodgy as hell anyways!

What I spotted straight away was the chain that runs along the bag is on the wrong side of the chain that goes up to the shoulder. On the real bag on the left it runs in front of the chain whereas on the bag on the right it sits behind
It’s a jumbo which has 4 chain holes you can wear it either way

Saying the entire fashion industry is unethical isn’t an excuse for justifying buying fake bags.

Also saying that people that don’t agree with fake bags are “snobs” or “privileged” is literally clutching at the straws.
There was actually two comments which were very snobby, the rest were not.

I think you are taking my comment about 'it going way past designer bags' the complete wrong way. I meant that I think it's an interesting topic in how everyday things we may not realize contributes to human/child trafficking, not that fake bags don't matter in the situation. I actually had no idea it happened until this thread but I bet there's so much more than fake bags which I am also unaware of.

I’m not really providing an argument, I’m literally saying I wouldn’t buy off a resale site because I’d rather not end up with a replica when spending in the thousands (many don’t even know their authentic bags are replicas), so I’d just rather buy the rep. It’s my opinion and choice, not an ‘argument’. I couldn’t care less if other people choose to buy off resale sites, I’m not really trying to convince anyone otherwise.
Most resellers allow you to get an authentication done before you commit to purchasing if they haven’t already had it done themselves. Some Vestiaire stuff is sent out without authentication and that’s by the choice of the customer I assume taking a risk and getting stung.

I remember my ex (who stole $6.2k from me) would constantly flex (by claiming with words) how he's super rich and has a frozen bank account back home. He would also constantly flex designer clothes and such. It didn't take long to realize all the things he had were fake (I looked up the designs of some of them and could NEVER find it except once on some website selling fake things). He also showed me his "Hermes" belt and I knew it was fake because it didn't even look like real leather (had the cardboard material) and the buckle was all scratched up (this never happens on authentic H belts). I got him a Hermes watch for his birthday and instead of being grateful he flexes how his brother got him a Rolex (gold one with green dial) and I asked him how his brother purchased it and he said he bought it online and shipped it. I called him out on how Rolex doesn't even ship watches and he gets all defensive about how they "connect you to authorized resellers".

Honestly, it's POS wannabes like this who fake a lifestyle they can only dream of and act all snobby too like they actually rich. SMH. It's also people like him who buy a used ancient BMW for $15k and flex it around like they are rich or something. The actual rich people I know (who own houses worth $12 million in SF and Bugattis) hardly ever flex with designer goods nor mention how rich they are.

NGL That was actually me who called that out and I got downvoted to oblivion (for mentioning basic facts, I mean if your salary/lifestyle/car ain't reflective of someone who has enough disposable income to splurge an apparent 35-40k on things... we all know it ain't the real deal. It's logic/common sense). They just mad cause those broke ass bitches are butt hurt they on the same page.
Also that comment about how people prioritize bags/clothes over things like clothes/homes is pure BS. People who even care about luxury to begin with start with a nice home and car then move onto things luxury items such as bags, clothes and shoes. Those who lay low (even tho they have the money) with their car/house would lay low with everything and would especially not wear designer brands.

The most laughable part is when that person said that their Birkin would appear real if they stepped out of an A5... like sweetie relax. A Birkin bag costs almost as much as that car. Even people with RR can't manage to get a Birkin considering how exclusive they are and how much you have to spend to even be eligible.

Also on a side note: the thing that made me want to puke the most while on that forum wasn't the bags but rather all the prostitutes (sugar babies) on it and all the other girls supporting it and sharing their experience as if it's something to be proud of. If anyone wants to fight me on how having a SD is not dangerously close to prostitution and how they they never have sex with their SD is a flat out liar. I have heard claims that they get gifts and thousands by just casually going out. So I myself joined the website to see what it's all about. I got a lot of offers and every single one of them (I got tons of messages) alluded to sex in exchange for these gifts and money which is pretty obvious. PS: I deleted that profile and never sought out any arrangement, I felt gross even having an account just to investigate/look into it.
So clearly those women have no self respect or shame so it makes sense why they'd do tacky things like flex a fake Birkin.
Check out the bayleyisla threads for sugar baby chat 😳

Most of this stuff would never be attainable for me either. I never knew there was such a huge market for fakes (beyond Camden Market and scams) so it's an eye opener! There are so many good reviews I'm thinking I should. But even £160 is a lot to lose to a scammer.
Yeah that's the only thing. There is a lot of straight up scams or just really bad quality ones so £160 is definitely a lot to lose! You really do have to be very careful, do your research. I had a look but they were still like £300-400 so I still won't buy any.

I've been on /r/RepLadies quite a bit. I've never ordered from a trusted seller through any sort of chat, but I have ordered from Taobao through an agent - I use Basetao. It was really easy and both my parcels got through this year!

I don’t think anyone said designer brands are without criticism.

And no, flexing an animal skin probably cannot be considered truly ethical, but the point is that it is more ethical than saying “well fuck it, an animal had to die for this bag so I’ll buy the cheaper fake one that also had an animal die for it, probably in less humane ways, a copied design so less people got paid for it, stiched together by trafficked children in a health hazard warehouse, paying to support a drug baron who murders people”.

This argument will NEVER make sense to me.
You just need to google "luxury fashion slavery" and up will pop numerous articles using research by Fashion Revolution highlighting issues with transparency over whether their supply chains are fairly paid and non-exploited. This concerns European factories too, not just places like China. I'm not ignoring that the Replica market has even less transparency and assurance, but this thread basically turned into people being rather snobbish at other women who too are living in a society where these designer goods are aspirational, it's like knocking down women for getting plastic surgery without addressing cultural norms about women ageing and men's ideals. Both designer and counterfeit production have issues yet there is very little introspection about the designer side.

I love the Cartier love bracelets but can't justify the price.

I've had a look at DH Gate and there are loads of replicas that look pretty good. Has anyone else bought one from there?
Probably not what you are looking for, but Etsy has a lot of options for flat gold bangles if it doesn't need to be a replica?
