Oh I also had to leave the awful Facebook group. I don’t care for anyone’s morbid home decor or Halloween wedding under the guise of being a spooky witch. If it’s not about the podcast I don’t give a tit; you’re not my friends!

I can't be bothered to have a million apps to listen to podcasts. I listen on castbox, I refuse to move away from it and when podcasts sign deals I just stop listening because I'm that petty. I just like my podcasts in one place ☺

Same.... I made an exception for the Redhanded patreon when it was good but now if its not on Spotify I'm not interested.

As others I got into redhanded during lockdown, something to listen to on all those walks 😂 I started right at the beginning when they basically recorded in a cupboard under the stairs. I’ve followed since then but don’t have a subscription (Spotify works perfectly for main episodes and shorthand) but like others the bigger they’ve got the worse the podcast is. It’s like it’s an after thought now rather than the main event. There’s much less deep dive, they used to chat about their take etc which they rarely do now. It seems it’s much more a let’s make as much money as possible. The thing they forget is without the listeners and sign ups they have nothing, new podcasts are released all the time…they are replaceable…and no doubt will be. If anyone is interested in really in depth true crime then Cold is a great podcast but it is one case over multiple episodes. Proper deep dive.

Patreon has been cancelled

I’m sure they won’t mind since it still says they are raking in nearly 57k a month but yenno, my own personal protest and all 🫠

I don't think the numbers will update until next month... as you cancel now but keep the sub you paid for til the end of the month. Will be interesting to see how many cancel.

Will definitely be interesting, I can only imagine the money they must have been offered by Wondery/Amazon to make this move because it’s obviously going to push a lot of people away from Patreon.

Or maybe they actually are now so tone deaf that they didn’t think it would? From the tone of the ‘amazing news’ announcement, it would seem so..

There was one episode (Kelly Anne Bates) which had segments that were taken verbatim from the Wikipedia page. That was probably 2019?? Really shallow dive.

They are absolutely that tone deaf, I think.
They also have a lot of diehard fans who think we should all be happy to pay $10 a month for no extra content at all, just to support the girls. I bleeping hate that attitude.
Redhanded is a business providing a service which you either pay directly for or you pay in ad revenue.

That was back when people thought it was a quality pod too 😆
There are a lot of posts on reddit accusing them of directly plagiarising documentaries.

Love to see how much they pay themselves a month. Will they still be able to have ads now they are on Wondery?

It’s possible the pod will get better because presumably they’ll now have access to better researchers, writers and producers rather than trying to manage it themselves.

Left patreon after the Hillsborough debacle. In fact it was my post on the Facebook group that started the pile on which led to them flouncing from the group 😳.
I loved the podcast at one point but really feel they got too greedy, made far too much content and the quality has crashed massively.

It was on one of their patreon episodes talking about Astroworld and they mentioned Hillsborough and Suruti stated it was a "hooligan situation". Can't believe Hannah, an alleged football fan, let that go out.
She backtracked in the comments but didn't apologise until they got dragged so badly all over Facebook and Patreon that they left the Facebook group and made them remove the "official" bit from the group name.
They did a proper apology on Patreon a few days later and eventually did a Hillsborough episode and donated the monetisation.

shocking. Was this the start of being ‘unwoke’? I love how tattle opens my eyes to tossers. I disliked Hannah more than surhthi but I think Hannah might actually be the more reasonable one.
