Interesting article examining family annihilation in light of the Epsom case

That’s a really interesting, but depressing, read. The line that really stood out to me was ‘You’re only as safe as your male partner allows you to be.’

Unless the roots of misogyny are addressed then things will never get better, in fact they are getting worse.

I really does make me concerned for what kind of adults some of the current generation will be. Gone are the days when the only porn you saw as a youngster, was discarded magazines in the woods (what was with that? Always in the woods!) and even then it was tame stuff really compared to what's available now. Now it's easily accessible in seconds, pornography of all types. It can't bode well for some teens, can it?

It’s scary. Not only do kids have to contend with online porn at an early age, boys expect girls to send nudes or else be called frigid (remember hearing that word at school?), and on social media you have young people rebranding absolutely everything as a kink (“I have a praise kink!”) because the worst thing you could possibly be is boring and vanilla.

It might sound like nothing but it’s a symptom of boundaries being gradually chipped away. It starts with people flexing about being a bit kinky at one end of the spectrum, but at the other we have the decriminalisation of bestiality (this is apparently happening in Spain) and trying to rebrand paedophilia as “minor attraction” and not a perversion but a natural sexual orientation.

Bit of a tangent for this thread but as a mother, seeing the messages young people receive about sex these days scares the life out of me.

Absolutely I’ve been saying this for a while.Porn definitely has an effect on the way men think they can treat women !
The tv show Euphoria covered this really well I thought, when two characters had sex for the first time and he was really rough and she was really scared and he genuinely didn't know what he did wrong. He thought that was a normal way to have sex because that's what porn teaches boys. It's actually disgusting and I feel so bad for young girls these days

Yes I thought of that scene earlier. He was a really nice lad and was horrified when he realised. Porn and films/books like 50 shades give young people a really skewed view of sexual relationships.

Not sure if this is the correct thread to ask but why had the Nicola Bulley threads been shut?
Surely like with other cases there will still be things to discuss for those who are interested

This case has always stayed with me in regards to the rough sex excuse. She must have been in so much pain. It’s awful.

There’s nothing to discuss though now. The media keep repeating the same about her, but it isn’t true crime to fantasise over, but an accident/suicide. I think the media frenzy and armchair detectives were just too wild, it needs to die down now.

I guess the only discussion to continue could be the menopause support which a new thread has been opened for advice

No, not really the correct thread now, I suppose - although it was discussed on here a bit. She was a missing person who has now been found so unless it later turns out that a crime has been committed there's not much left to discuss about her. I think there's lots to discuss about the media/social media/amateur detectives/conspiracy shitshow situation though.

Her case has highlighted this issue and maybe a general thread on that would maybe be more appropriate.

just went to have a look and looks like mods say they locked it and asked for privacy for the family.

As @Mascaragirl says above, they've put links at the end of the thread for other threads linked to the case.

Conviction in the Norma Girolami murder case. Sentencing tomorrow. Murder for gain is a thirty year starting point.

Also, the Patricia Holland murder trial has opened. This one has taken a long time to come to trial. I know one of our members @lasttime had a connection to the case so I hope they're doing ok

Thank you, I appreciate that! Knowing what I know about his actions previous to what he did to her I'm not even surprised at what they've said today. I'm not sure how much of the trial I'll follow mainly for my own wellbeing but I'll be surprised if he isn't found guilty at this point. Vile man. I hope her family and friends are doing ok because as much as its awful for me it's 100x worse for them.

The way they call it a “sex session” turns my stomach. The phrase implies it was consensual but it’s clear in this case the victim had psychiatric issues and was in an abusive coercive relationship. It’s not a sex session gone wrong, it was rape and torture for his sexual gratification of a vulnerable woman.

Guilty plea on all charges in the Elizabeth McCann case. Sentencing tomorrow.

This fucking nutjob is also being sentenced tomorrow. Looking back on her Facebook, she was actually pretty normal when her daughter was born and in a seemingly loving relationship (he now has the child) but started becoming more and more 'alternative'. I wonder why she changed?

That is horrendous. Why oh WHY didn’t they seek help and why has he got off with it, essentially?
