Who are people using for pet insurance? I've a puppy coming home on 23rd December and have quotes for Direct Line and Pet Plan which look reasonable (around £23 per month) Is there anywhere else that you would recommend that is worth checking for a quote
My vets highly recommend pet plan and will claim from them direct, they are expensive but I’ve personally found best for paying out.

I’d say Petplan is the best and most vets would do direct claims with them. Big supermarkets are also usually alright. As someone else said ask your vet who they do direct claims with as most will have a list. And as someone else said get the highest limit if possible. As some people only get cover for say 1k or another example is 4k cover but only 1k per condition which is pretty useless really. And as they said get cover for life. Also look into the policies for when they get older as a lot (I think most) will be excess plus 20% once over a certain age, some don’t and depends if your happy with that.

I posted on here a few months ago about how much I’d love a dog… I’m visiting a rescue on Saturday to meet a dog to see if we are a match 🥹 she has some reactivity issues which will need further training and will have to be muzzled in public but we’ll see. Whether she’s the one or not, I’m feeling much better about my prospects of dog ownership as I’ve passed the criteria to go and see her 🤞🏻

Hi! Just after some advice. We have a six month old Cockapoo and she is genuinely lovely. She has her moments but overall she is lovely natured and well behaved. The problem I’m having at the moment is she is destroying every toy she owns. She had two toy boxes full and she loves to play, but I don’t think she realises her own strength. I’ve tried every type of toy imaginable, kong toys, super strength toys, balls, rope toys, stuffed toys, plastic toys. She is breaking these within 5 minutes. She’s got less than half a toy box left now and I know I need to buy her more, but I just know as soon as we give her them they’re going in the bin and it just feels like I’m wasting my money. Any advice much appreciated!

Have you tried things like natural chews - antlers, hooves, deer ears etc? She can chew and tire without ruining her toys. Our boys will demolish a chew and now just play with their toys. Might be worth a try!

Our puppy has to go to the vet tommrow, he is starting to become obsessed with his tail, happend after he had two little wounds on his rear. Already took him to the vet for those and got some medicine but it isnt helping much. He keeps chasing tail and pulling on it, biting it and growling and sometimes crying.

We try to distract him but even when playing he goes for his tail and starts pulling it hard. We bought some new toys because we thought maybe he is bored but he seems to really have some discomfort.

I'd definitely echo what @snapdrag0n says! We had the exact same issue with our little pup up until he was about 10 months, I dread to think how much money i wasted on toys that lasted literally minutes! (And how pissed off I'd feel picking up 1 million pieces of stuffing/chewed rubber/fabric etc etc etc 😂). We tried lots of natural chews, this favourites are antlers, pigs ears and rabbits ears! Chomping on those really wears him out and he doesn't destroy his toys half as much any more..... apart from cuddly stuffed animals, I don't think they'll ever be safe 😂

Hey all, the day has finally come where my pup has gone into season (according to my bedsheets 🫠). So there was blood on my sheets yesterday and I checked her downstairs and it was also a bit bloody and doesn’t seem herself (very sad and tired). There hasn’t seemed to be any bleeding since….is this normal? I’m so sorry, I’m a newbie to this. Honestly any tips or experiences would be amazing.

apols if that was graphic regarding the blood!

Thank you both!! Will definitely be looking into this as she’s been really sad having so few toys, she’s used to the floor being covered 🤣 she’s a funny pup I’ve never had one like her!

I am so frustrated. My two poor dogs have been poorly for over a month now (diarrhea)

Started them off on antibiotics, which did nothing. Changed their food to a prescribed stomach friendly one (which helped) and was asked to give a stool sample. "Make sure you bring it in Friday at 9am" they say "or it won't go until Monday".

When did it actually get sent to the lab? TUESDAY. What the duck. After I've paid nearly £300 as well. Such a joke, and then they say 10 working days for results. Told them my dogs are seriously in a bad way and they've said we'll start on the meds now then without waiting for the results, which I am glad for, but what exactly did I pay £300 for???

Sorry. Needed to rant. My poor boys.

Puppies are hellish, they are. I never sugarcoat it but they are so so worth it when you get a companion for life!

We're picking up our golden retriever on Sunday so very in the same boat. Mixture of excitement and nerves. My husband has had dogs in the family, but it'll be my first time. Feeling as prepared as we can be though. Sending so much positive thinking your way! I think the first few weeks will be tough, but hopefully it doesn't last forever and things will get better...

@Murphygirl good luck! At least there are a few of us in the same boat!
Thanks, and to you, hopefully we can share our highs and lows on here (and a few photos1). I know if we can ride it out and commit to training and socialisation we will have a lovely dog and a friend for life. Not looking forward to the sleepness nights though, my husband is a deep sleeper so I know I'm going to be the one doing the nightshifts 😂

24 hours in it’s not been completely plain sailing, but she’s absolutely gorgeous and very affectionate so that definitely makes things easier. 🐾

He’s insanely clever and already sitting, fetching and paw when asked. Crate training is going ok apart from the poo at 4am in there this morning- he has not went out at 3! He then slept till 8 thought so can forgive his little face. He’s a bit bouncy for my boys atm and the cats don’t like him lol. OH isn’t well (we’ve all got this cough/cold) but so far not too overwhelming.
