I know some of you know about me having to re-home a pup which broke my heart, an opportunity has come up for a 12 month, it's close to me so I'm taking my other dog to meet her dreckly to see how it goes!!
Ahhh this is wonderful. Lots of positive thoughts being sent your way. Hope it works out. 😊

Thank you, it went ok, my dog had 4 of them to contend with, he was good as gold, she's very nervey and wouldn't leave her owner alone, but she was abit feisty with my boy, and he didn't retaliate, next plan, she comes over here for a day, without her owner so she's out of her comfort zone, fingers crossed it works!

Hey guys, any tips/recommendations on retractable leads. My pup has had 3 x TUG leads and yesterday chewed through her Flexi lead whilst I was out for dinner (despite keeping an eye on her). I have a big chunky lead which has seen some wear and tear but I really need a decent retractable for when she comes into season (so she can still run about). For a cockapoo she certainly has a fine set of knashers (every cloud).

Retractable leads are a recipe for injury.

Typically when in season youd walk her very early am or very late at night where there is no traffic at all. I personally would not want my dog on a long lead either at that point. Id want them on a v short lead.

Male dogs will go absolutely wild for a witch in heat. They would travel long distances at great speed at even the faintest scent.

Its a pretty crappy time for female dog owners but the risk of being caught is so real that Id be so wary of walks and other dogs.

Edit - this sounds so aggressive, I dont mean it to but my dog caught a scent of a female dog in heat whilst in the garden and was feral for about a week. Ive never seen anything like it. So I reckon he'd pull me off my feet to get to a witch in season if out and about. He is generally v well behaved and obedient

I’d agree here. I’ve been pulled over by our two when we’ve encountered a witch in heat. Please be mindful of walking your dog anywhere popular even in quiet times. Short lead only and to be honest, you may want to keep her at home at the peak. Easier to rest a dog than deal with males catching the scent.

Thanks both! I’m still waiting for the season to arrive (she’s 10 months) but every time I sense a change in mood I think it’s on the way. Will keep her on non retractable for now!

Heyyy.
Just a teething question!
Puppy is now coming up to 6 months.(next weekend 😁)

how ever today she seems to have lost a baby canine tooth! Believe this is the last to come out she does have another one on the other side. But she had been rubbing that side (and stratching with her paw(front and back) and licking her lips which she's done when other teeth have fallen out. Adult canine is in so think is pushed this baby one out.

I did think that she might of gotten bit by a spider as we were trying to get her to do a last wee and she went under the bushes 🙄 I did see a spider on the floor when she was starting to rub her face so that's why I thought she'd got bitten. Can't see any red or sore eyes/ears/mouth for that.

So only thing we can think off is the tooth has come out and it's irritating her :( anyone elses puppy was similar? Or do I just worry for no reason 😅❤ picture of the little madam ❤

Hi everyone. I posted on here a while back that we had agreed as a family to get a puppy in the near future. We decided to wait until after Christmas in the end, as we tend to be away for about a week over that period at various family homes and we didn't want a puppy being disrupted as one family member has a dog which doesn't socialise at all. Anyway, we are still so undecided on a breed. We thought a labrador was the right choice for us, then we bumped into someone who was walking a lab/spaniel cross which was gorgeous and we looked into that. My husband has since thought about a beagle. I've done some research and note they can be hard to train and do not cope well with being left alone. Our dog will eventually be alone one day per week between 9 and 3, although my dad will come around 12 to let it out. Anyone have any experience good or bad re beagles?

I hate beagles my number one most hated breed 😂 they are just so annoying. When I worked in a boarding kennels, the top 3 dogs I hated most being in were all beagles. They just never listened and would never stop sniffing.

Both ours did the same whilst teething. Wiping the face with a cold compress might help :) but pup might just go for it! If it does start coming up red just pop to the vets.

She's not done it today so think it's just her last teeth! Thank you! It's been so long since we've had a puppy and I don't ever remember our older dogs rubbing their faces or finding as many teeth as we have!! (mind you they where boxers so they don't have much of a face to rub 🤣)

Hey guys, looking for a couple of bits of advice from you wonderful lot.

1. Puppy really isn't into her food, and never really has been (she's 10 months now) we use Tails.com and have dry kibble/biscuits but although she eats some of it, a dish tends to last the whole day (and then little top up at night). I'm looking to move her over to wet food, but none of that stuff that you have to freeze, defrost etc... do any of you have your pups on wet food, and if so - what kind?

2. I seem to be going through numerous retractable leads, I've bought Tug a couple of times and they've literally lasted a couple of weeks (she tends to quiet if we're at the pub/restaurant and we don't realise she's actually chewing through). Tugg is super well rated on Amazon but doesn't seem to be doing the trick. We also got her some thick non retractable leads and she's pretty much chewed through them - any advice on decent leads? I really don't want to go through the chain route.

Thanks :)

I’ve had a look on Amazon and their website and I can’t seem to find which ones are the strongest. Can you remember which ones you bought?

Does anyone have any tips on how to repair a hole in the carpet? My little land shark has decided at 5 months old he's going to turn into a carpet shredder. I've ordered a cheap rug from Dunelm to at least cover the whole until I can fix it (we're looking to move so could do without a massive hole in my carpet 😅)

He's never been crated when he's asleep as he's always slept through and has always barked whenever he's woken up for us to take him to the toilet. However he's now decided that he wants to quietly eat my carpet when he wakes up 🙃 so I think we are going to have to get him to start sleeping in a crate. Any tips on making this as smooth as possible would be helpful too!

Who are people using for pet insurance? I've a puppy coming home on 23rd December and have quotes for Direct Line and Pet Plan which look reasonable (around £23 per month) Is there anywhere else that you would recommend that is worth checking for a quote
