any tips on how to stop the puppy biting? We believe its teething/frustration as we know she gets crazy in the evening (puppy witching hour!) but as shes getting her adult teeth they are really starting to hurt. weve been doing all the things, getting up/moving(shell follow and grab/bite clothing)/giving her puppy toys/games etc but then soon as shes done that its back on us. she gets garden play and such too and walks (only 20 minutes as shes 4 months) but this is the worst shes been since we got her mind june. shes not over tired, we arent saying 'bite me' ,shes been to toilets ,we dont pet her when shes like this, shes not over excited either (as we had food in a ball before hand that she was quite happily using right before and nice and chill) if we do pop her in her crate for time out wait til she calm, shell get back on it... im trying to think of what else we could do or what it could be. but every site and book is saying the same which weve done to try and prevent it!! we also can sorta see when it starts but it can also just be a switch and we arent prepared!

sorry for the long ramble and any tips would be appreciated!! the culprit in person! English cocker spaniel, a week and 4 months. View attachment 1532770!
Our puppy is very similar however it tends to be when he's over stimulated or tired. I try to get him in his crate to settled for a couple of minutes but he then comes right back out with his fangs ready to go 🤣

My partner tried to tell me its cos I'm his favourite that he tries to rip my hands to shreds but I'm not sure I believe that 😅

Thank you! ❤ We know it'll pass as well but when you are in the moment it doesn't feel that way! 🤣😭What age did your pup stop? We have training classes a week Monday we also do some training ourselves (we went to puppy pre school and got some tips!) We know we aren't alone either but it's so hard! 😫
he’s now 8 months and I’d say after about the 6 month mark is when I saw a dramatic improvement. We still get some mouthing off him occasionally but it’s rare! Our main issue at the moment is barking 😅😂
Good luck with your training!

6 months seems like such along way away 🤣🤣😭hopefully she'll calm down asap. We last got a puppy 11 years ago (he passed away last year we got a totally different dog as we couldn't have boxers any more) and you just for get everything and there's so much now to do with dogs to help with mental stimulation and such it can be quite overwhelming!

He's 13 weeks tomorrow so we've still got a looooong way to go until 6 months 🤣 other than his biting, he's absolutely fantastic and picks up on stuff really quickly. He just can't seem to control himself with biting!!

The biting, alone time and stopping him from trying to chase our cats are the 3 big things that he struggles with at the moment 😅

It’s been a while since I posted so just wanted to give everyone an update.
Puppy is nearly 6 months old and honestly feel like we’ve done this, we’ve came out the other side.
We struggled with the teething and biting mainly, also had a tiny baby when he arrived so I had my work cut out 😅 couldn’t find puppy classes, so went with a 1on1 trainer. That was an expensive mistake. Wasted a tonne of money for a tit trainer. Paid money to go through weekly sessions of stuff I’d already taught him because she wanted to know what he could do 😅 I was teaching him stuff during the week and then she’d come and be like oh you’ve done that let’s see how he does it and he learnt nothing new with her apart from plaster him all over her Instagram making out she taught him it all 😅My mistake I guess. We finally found puppy classes and sacked her off, and now he attends 2 classes a week and he is loving it! Mainly for the socialisation aspect, my last dog was reactive after being attacked so I’m keen to keep him well socialised and they’re a great bunch so he adores going and doing different stuff every week. Deffo recommend puppy classes over 1v1. He’s great with dogs and people, he’s super calm which isn’t usually a trait of the breed but he does have his moments of course. The breed are known for being strong and pulling but we’ve got his loose lead walking perfected at present and even my 8 year old can walk him which loads of people are amazed at 😅(obviously we’ll keep training at it though ready for the defiant teenage stage!).
We’re always complimented in the street by his looks, movement and training wise. I got stopped by a car the other day and asked if I’d show him as he has great potential apparently. We already practice showing etiquette in our group classes so I’ve booked him into his first show in 2 weeks time. I’ll let you all know how we get on but it all sounds super fun and more socialisation for him really.
We had moments in the beginning where we thought “what the duck have we done” “we can’t do this” “send him back” and lots of tears (mainly from me 😅) I guess I’m trying to say. Keep at it. It gets better. So much better. Puppy’s are Dickheads. But that stage soon passes. We’ve all got this 🥰
I remember crying to my partner saying “I don’t like him” for weeks, now I absolutely adore the spotty idiot more than anything and couldn’t imagine sending him back.

I feel like this sums up every single person who has ever owned a puppy that has grown up.

They really are the pits initially. I had a small baby when I brought my first dog home and it is v v stressful.

Also if you have a dalmation they are wonderful dogs.

The cats are interesting haha. We've spent a good 3 weeks taking our time introducing them for one of then to just decided screw it and ran into the living room on Friday whilst he was in there and just sit there looking at him. No growling or hissing. He of course wanted to play with them and now whines when he's outside and they're inside and he can see them. Luckily I think we've ended up with two very chilled out cats who have taken his play barking at them in their stride and just seem OK with everything at the moment.

I’m thinking about getting a cavapoo puppy in the next few months - I live on my own and work from home most days so I’d really like a wee companion and to get outside more. The thing is I live in a first floor flat, am I crazy to be thinking about it?! I have a communal garden (lots of dogs about during the day) and several parks within 10 mins walk so lots of places for pup to play.

I have already found a doggy daycare round the corner from me and another one about a 15 min drive away for the days I go to the office.

I love cavapoos but cavaliers have a lot of health issues so I’d always be warey if getting something crossed with one. Sounds like you have a good plan though and I don’t see why you couldn’t happily have a dog

Does anyone have any advice regarding crate training and/or alone time?
It's the biggest thing our puppy struggles with. Even if we leave the room to go to the bathroom, he cries and cries.

Any advice would be so so appreciated!

We crate trained our dog and we just ignored his cries and he soon settled, didn’t take long just a few days of crying for a while when first put into the crate. I also think it’s the best way as if you go back to them when they are crying they’ll learn to cry to get your attention. If they go quiet then leave it a little before going in to let them out.

Thank you. Are you able to leave him alone to entertain himself? We're trying to build it up but it seems a very very slow process!

He is 13 now. He is completely happy to be alone no issues. I think sometimes he prefers to be alone as a lot of the time if I’m sat watching TV in the living room he will take himself into the other room or outside. We don’t lock him in the crate anymore but he will happily go into it throughout the day since we leave it open for him. I’m glad he is like this as I think separation anxiety is such a hard thing to have to deal with.

Honestly that's the dream for us. Just a pup who is happy to entertain himself as and when he needs to.
To be fair, after messaging, I got a frozen Kong out of the freezer and put it in his crate. That kept him busy for 20 minutes so much better than expected!!

If the weathers fine and we are gone we usually just keep the back door open as our gardens secure and no one would be able to get in. So he just takes himself out when he wants, he usually spends most of his time out there just lying on the grass chilling. I think it’s important they get used to being alone, even if you don’t plan on doing it often because what if there is an emergency and you have to leave the dog for longer than normal at least then they’ll be used to it

Start off really slowly would be my advice. Seconds initially and once hes quiet go back and reward.

Slowly increase the time you leave him gradually.

Also you could try licky mats/kongs to engage the brain.

The breed I have are really prone to seperation anxiety and this was the advice I was given from a trainer. We were told not to leave them to cry as pups as it could make separation anxiety worse. Again though the breed I have is prone to it so advice may be different.

Just take it as it comes, the pup will get there - ours only took a couple of nights. Also, cover the crate with a blanket at night so that their senses calm down (e.g not disturbed by light etc) and most importantly don’t have any FOMO when you’re heading to bed etc.

I'm actually quite jealous of you guys who've had a puppy, mine would have gone past that six month stage where they do settle!
Just to say, filled in a rehoming form weeks ago, now seen they don't let you know cos you're not suitable and they're busy, that sucks!
Shan't bother no more
