Dogs trust allowance adoption to families with children, there is an age filter on their website.
They do out of area adoption too - I'm 80 miles from the centre I got my pup from.

They did try but it wasn't really helping. They ended up going to bed early and hoping in the morning he'll be better as usually after a sleep he is different. I also messaged my trainer about it so waiting to a reply

It's a tricky one, they need to stick to it, and he's probably missing you to.

Just a question looking for some advice -

looking at getting a pup next year and doing some research when taking the pup out for socialisation between vaccinations I understand it’s best to carry them etc for obvious reasons but what about if they need to do the toilet? Do we carry puppy pads ? Let them go on grass that’s available?

How exciting for you. I tended to just walk to the end of the road and back so she could get used to outside noises and smells. So toilet was never an issue.

My cockapoo is still showing no signs of his testicles descending. We had a check up at 1 and the vet said book him in immediately for exploratory castration, which we did, in the end they anesthetisted him, couldn't feel anything and sent him home with the advice to wait until 18 months.

My worries are two fold really as my groomer said sooner the better as there is a 'ring' that closes? Making the op more difficult?.

Also he is booked in with a dog sitter Aug who only accepts neutered dogs, she knows the situation and has observed him and is happy but I still worry about accidents if he can still produce semen?.

I'm tempted to change vets and get a second opinion as also worried re cancer and non descended testicles.

Pretty sure my pup (who I keep complaining about ) is just at that age of pushing boundaries. He is 8 months started scent marking as well and was humping all the dogs at daycare. He also has started to cry a bit in his crate at night which he never did, even from day 1 he slept through without a noise even if someone went downstairs for something. He doesn't do it for long now and I have a camera down there which if I say something to him through he then settles normally

What about a young rescue (if you can find one that'll let you adopt with a young child. Maybe you could first foster to see how it goes first?
Do you have any other animals? What about a kitten so much easier

I'm having trouble with my puppy now crate guarding, only seems to be when he is tired at the end of the day but obviously don't want it to escalate. I just haven't really found the group classes that helpful, he gets distracted by the smells in the venue easily. Wondering if anyone else has done 1-2-1 sessions and how many you did? They do blocks of 5 so I'm thinking of doing that.

Do you crate train? I found putting my pup in there for a nap or two in the day helped me a lot as it gave me time on my own. I found helped me and a friend said the same. Also helped as my pup was always on the go if I was around and only settles properly when he is on his own, so it let me and him relax.

Yes we’ve chosen to crate train which I did need a bit of persuasion to do but I’m glad I made that choice now!
Because I WFH I constantly feel like I need to be entertaining her & I think it’s tiring both me and pup out

It does but its not quick. Is there another adult in the household? Tag teaming can work and can help prevent the puppy blues taking too much of a hold.

Yeah there is, although he works 12hrs & I wfh so during the day it’s down to me…I do jump for joy when he walks in at 6pm

My dog has just turned 8 months, I know not quite a pup anymore but looking for a bit of advice.
He is a black pug, all vet trips been perfectly healthy, fully vaccinated, flea and worm treatment also up to date!
The past day or two he has had a very runny nose, running clear but if he is left to sleep then wakes up to sneeze it's white(ish) and I need to physically wipe it away. Feeling really sorry for him being this congested... He was out a lot at the weekend playing in cut grass and the pollen count was high.
Otherwise, no cough, still has an appetite, sleeping fine and still active at his day care!

It's only been a day and I can start him on antihistamines.. Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar? Obviously if he doesn't improve over the next few days I'll be going to the vets!

Yes I think chicken topped kibble is the way to go at the monent. We use a kibble called Little Champ, it has wheat and maize listed in the ingredients. Interspersed with supermarket pouches. Definitely think they get bored with their food. I've ordered a home cooked dog food recipe book off Amazon to see if I get any inspiration.

I've gone for wainwrights as there are a few different flavours and I've topped it with some of their gravy topper which he ate tonight. Just got to make sure I don't get the super food one as that is grain free. I'll have a look at the one you said thanks

We have a 11 week old cocker spaniel - what treats are you recommending for training? Using chicken and some natural puppy treats from pets at home but don’t want to feed too much chicken (if I can) as although it’s high value and helping her stay focused she seemed to struggle a bit too this morning so wonder if too much protein and she’s bunged up.

Want something I can buy that is preferably already small so don’t have to chop up treats, that is super yummy and exciting….not not full of crap!

also on that note - what chews? Just wanting something she can gnash on in the crate or when she’s on a wood chip eating rampage in the garden. Chew toys don’t seem to be satisfying her when she’s in that sort of mood so think needs to be a chew.

Hi! Hope everyone is getting on OK with their puppies. It is an adventure for sure!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of their puppies jumping up and biting whilst off lead? G is almost 6 months old, and has been allowed off lead for about the last 6 weeks. He did a bit of jumping up and biting on the occasional walk but I would just stand still and ignore and it would stop. But the last couple of weeks the frequency and intensity has increased to the point that the last 3 days, it has started the second the lead is off and so I have just turned round and come home. He is too big and painful to just ignore now as well. Any advice? I am covered in scratches and bruises

My 8 month old rottie does this, although the frequency has decreased recently. I had to start muzzling him on walks because I was black and blue from him
I've got him booked in with a private trainer starting soon, so hopefully I can get some tips to help combat it

Anyone got any advice? My 15 month cavapoo has just started chewing all my things! AirPod, glasses, belt and one trainer in about 6 months. I know it doesn’t seem a lot but it’s all expensive things and never my partners! Has anyone got an advice? She has plenty of toys and chews, plenty of exercise and socialisation like day care, walks ect! Or is it just something I have to keep saying no to and hoping she grows out of it🫠 x

I'll probably post this on the dog thread as well as I guess people on there might've been more likely to already have done it. Has anyone done the bronze Kennel club good citizen training? My puppy classes finish this week so trying to decide whether it's worth to do the bronze award.
I've signed up for recall classes because at the time there wasn't any bronze awards I could make it to due to work, but now they've released more dates which will perfectly line up with when I'd finish recall class.

I thought that might be the case, I do know someone who fostered for the RSPCA and he had younger children (under 5). I was kinda surprised they let them foster with young children. Do you have any family or friends who have a dog you could look after maybe for a week or two whilst they are away? Least give you some kind of idea whether it would fit for you and also save your family/friend money on boarding for holiday

Stop leaving things out. Pretty simple. We can’t leave anything out or our Lab will destroy it

Have you spoken to the vet? I’m in a training group on fb (I think it’s been posted on here before but not 100% and not sure if we’re allowed to promote fb groups or not) - basically they sometimes say unusual behaviours like suddenly attacking or going off food could be a sign of pain so to get the dog checked.

I know when my boy really goes off his food (he is generally indifferent to food anyway but will eat) it’s usually followed by him being ill in the days following.

He has been and don't think it is. He is very fussy with food anyway even with treats. When I first got him he would only eat his kibble even treats he'd refuse now he is the opposite . He eats my other dogs food better than his but that's not puppy food so don't want him having that. He is eating treats fine still well the ones he likes . After he ate today he was fine again. He is always bright and playful and barely sits still.
