Hi! Hope everyone is getting on OK with their puppies. It is an adventure for sure!

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of their puppies jumping up and biting whilst off lead? G is almost 6 months old, and has been allowed off lead for about the last 6 weeks. He did a bit of jumping up and biting on the occasional walk but I would just stand still and ignore and it would stop. But the last couple of weeks the frequency and intensity has increased to the point that the last 3 days, it has started the second the lead is off and so I have just turned round and come home. He is too big and painful to just ignore now as well. Any advice? I am covered in scratches and bruises

We got told at training to put treats on the floor to stop them jumping at us as they learn the treats come from the floor rather than anywhere else. Or what about throwing a ball or a toy away from you when you let him off so he gets distracted?

Just nipped out and got a rope with ball on the end. He is just chewing the rope At least he is chewing his toy though I suppose!

Ha ha I think they go through phases like toddlers and small children. Doubt you've done anything wrong. It's all a learning curve for me I'm a complete puppy mum novice x


It appears my sweet little girl (Dachsund Cross, nearing 8 months) has started bleeding today. I'm not surprised as she hasn't been eating as well and become quite clingy over the past week and the vet estimated August, so have been on the look out. She seems to be keeping herself clean and being very licky. She is drinking well, which is good. If anyone knows what she might find tasty to encourage her to eat a bit more. Or any tips in general, I would be really grateful. How long can I expect the bleeding to last? Many thanks x

What about just mixing something like chicken into her normal food? Or warming up her normal food as well if it's wet. Adding hot water to dry food?
My pup is mini and is 10months now so I'm trying to swap him to adult food since I ran out of his puppy stuff nearly and the pup stuff says till 10months.
He is so fussy though and I did end up having him in raw food for probably the last two months but don't want him to be on raw really. Been trying to find a dry food he will eat but that includes grain , so many are grain free

My pups small, 7 months and it's confident/dominant so I'll most likely get him castrated in the next few weeks. Going to ask the trainer what he thinks about it as well.

Re castration. We have a rescue from 5 weeks old, 6 months old now. A giant of a dog. We were told they would call us back at 9 months to neuter him and it was part of the agreement we signed when adopting him, but our own vet said they're is no way they would neuter him until he was 2 years old. Because of his size. Any thoughts/ experience of this?

Mine is £650 for 8 2 hour sessions
I found the group classes too stressful, for both me and him. He's a really big dog, even though he's not even a year old yet, and his concentration isn't the best

I think it's meant to be slightly more because if I clicked block booking it was a bit more expensive £255 I think. But I just went on the book one session and then I could select block booking on there which was cheaper so I assume they forgot to change it. Wonder if they'll ask for more.
How long do you leave between sessions? I'll ask the trainer but just wondering.
Went to my group sessions today which was the best one as only 2 others turned up so it was nicer

I've never done this. We had foster pups form 5 weeks old and they got dry kibble from then.

I’m honestly not sure what the guidance is, but my girl despised having the wet kibble so I think we stopped hers at about 8/9 weeks - she was fine!

When hes in his crate the child needs to leave him alone. I know its hard with a 3yo but its imperative that the child is kept away from the crate.

How did the other incident happen? What was happening before the incident. Is he usually around children? How does he normally behave.

They have done well with leaving him when he’s in his crate to be fair to them except that time. The other I never fully seen but my partner and friend said they were sat at the table, 3yo and dog were standing beside the table, she done nothing and he just jumped up at her. We don’t have children but both come from big families so he is around them a lot, he’s usually hyper to start with then settles down, but always in a playful way never aggressive. He’s not used to being around them for such a long period of time which might be the issue and the place is smaller than we expected which again could be part of it

Could you get a playpen to take with you to keep him in when the kid is around? And make sure the kid doesn't go near it even if it's just to block off a certain area for the dog?

He’s always been really good in his crate but he’s never settled or played in a playpen. We’ve told them they can’t go near the crate at all. Plus the kids are around all the time unless we’re out separately with him

Hello you lovely lot,
I am going to Wales at the end of the month and we want to take our 10 month old dachshund - any recommendations for car seats / straps?
He currently has a seat similar to the one below, but he always tries to lean out and likes to be in the middle to see us, and as we are driving from Sussex we want to make sure he is comfortable!
Also if anyone has any recommendations of harnesses/ leads, and also a baby carrier for dogs too would be great as we're walking snowdon and want to make sure he's comfortable!

I think it could be the reaction as it’s always if I’m in the shower or cooking! If she gets something and I’m not bothered she drops it within 2 seconds! I’ll try and not react! Thank you

If it's always when you are in the shower/cooking have you tried giving her long-lasting things to keep her occupied? Such as snuffle mats, frozen carrots or frozen licky mats?

Hi, I hope everyone's puppies are doing well.
Our big giant horse Is almost 11months old and I'm exhausted cleaning the house after him. He has the back garden dug up and has muck everywhere, we have mats down all the way in from the back garden but they're covered in hair He's been shedding an awful lot the past few months. I've bought hard sweeping brushes, rubber sweeping brushes and even the vacuum cleaner doesn't get all the hair up. Can anyone recommend their vacuum cleaner we have a Meile pet hair one, but thinking of getting a new one as that's not doing the job.

*he's brushed every single night with a slicker brush and another contraption my daughter bought him. You could make 2 donald trump wigs out of what comes off him nightly.

I’m new to this thread & I’m so glad I’ve found one about pups!
I’ve just been gifted my first puppy (pedigree whippet) and I wish I’d have known how exhausting it was going to be!
I need some words of encouragement to know it does get easier…please

Do you crate train? I found putting my pup in there for a nap or two in the day helped me a lot as it gave me time on my own. I found helped me and a friend said the same. Also helped as my pup was always on the go if I was around and only settles properly when he is on his own, so it let me and him relax.

Hi hope it’s okay to post here I’m looking at getting a puppy in the next few weeks some adverts state puppy will not be kennel club registered is this a problem? My last dog was but for reference I don’t plan on breeding the dog or anything it will be a family pet for me & my teen daughter, it’s been a good few years since I had a puppy (lost my precious boy 4 years ago) and never thought I would consider another dog but I feel now is the right time, any tips on what I need to look out for please? Obviously I’m aware to see puppy with mum ? Dad if possible? Some seem really high priced some cheaper I’m not sure which is best tbh?! I don’t want to get it wrong so any advice? I’m looking on champ dogs & pets 4 homes is there anywhere else? I would want the puppy to come from a family brought up environment, I’m also wary of puppy farms too so would appreciate any tips? Nervous and excited 🫣

My 7 year old daughter won't stop asking me for a puppy and I would love one too but I am in two minds about it. Firstly, it's only me and her at home so when I'm working I'd need to take the dog to my mums to be minded as I'm out for 10 hours on the days I work. Secondly, I'm worried that I'll regret it. When training is challenging I'm scared that I'll wish I'd never bothered. Any advice would be appreciated.

There's a charity called spaniel aid. They just posted about not being able to take in any more dogs due to high demand. They also posted about fosters I had a look and it said no children under 8 so could be an option when your daughter is 8? It says usually foster for 6-8 weeks or longer sometimes. It does say about not leaving the dog for more than 4 hours but if your mum would also help hopefully that would be ok?

He has been and don't think it is. He is very fussy with food anyway even with treats. When I first got him he would only eat his kibble even treats he'd refuse now he is the opposite . He eats my other dogs food better than his but that's not puppy food so don't want him having that. He is eating treats fine still well the ones he likes . After he ate today he was fine again. He is always bright and playful and barely sits still.

Just wondering what breed he is, you've never answered before, maybe folks on here will be able to relate more?

Don’t know what’s better having a puppy that’s fussy with food or one that loves food. At least he hopefully won’t eat anything that’ll turn into a foreign body but it’s annoying trying to get him to eat enough!
Same with my cats - one I had to put on wet food for a while as well as dry but now she’s gone back to eating dry only. The other is good she eats her normal dry food well but is fussy with treats, she will only have lick-e-lix, even dreamies are a no from her. Not that it matters about treats but I just find it strange
