yes will do, i definitely would walk away if something was off, fortunately my daughter is of an age where she understands we need to wait to fight the right pup for us, thanks for your adviceHi I have a crossbreed so KC registration wasn't on my radar. I would say same as above in asking for health testing etc. You can also ask in Facebook groups for specific breeds whether there are any recommended breeders. Follow your gut too, I walked away once when I realised a breeder had given a false name and also another when the breeder wouldn't let me meet mum (said she would be upset seeing me with the pups).
I also advise not telling children what you are planning for as long as possible as they will start pressuring you to hurry up when really it's something you need to take your time with.
When hes in his crate the child needs to leave him alone. I know its hard with a 3yo but its imperative that the child is kept away from the crate.Sorry not really puppy related anymore but I know there’s such good advice on here. we’re at a staycation with our friends and our dog (14 month old cockapoo) he’s shown aggression before in the form of resource guarding, so we know what to avoid, chews that last too long etc. he’s never shown signs of aggression without a trigger but twice now he’s snapped at our friends 3 year old. Once I think it was because she was at his crate when he was in it but the other time it was unprovoked. Obviously this will take work but I really don’t know what a short term solution would be? We still have a few days to go. Any help would be so so appreciated![]()
Probably a good age although in the future it might mean a lot of vet bills at the same time if they are old together and need medications? Maybe waiting a bit longer would hopefully mean they'd be at different stages (hopefully they'll both just be healthy and not need any obviously)Looking for some advice,
We have a 2 year old big pup and now considering a new puppy.
am I mad? Or will it be the best idea ever?
They did try but it wasn't really helping. They ended up going to bed early and hoping in the morning he'll be better as usually after a sleep he is different. I also messaged my trainer about it so waiting to a replyWhen he gets like that, try removing him and put him in another place away from the other dog for abit, then let him back, then keep repeating.
So exciting! What are you getting?Hi all, I'm going to be bringing a new puppy home at the end of November . It's been a looong time since I have had a puppy (over 20 years) and things have changed a lot so I feel like I'm going to be brand new at it! I remember last time I kept wondering why I had destroyed my life by getting a puppyit worked out okay in the end though but miss my girl so much

Could you get a playpen to take with you to keep him in when the kid is around? And make sure the kid doesn't go near it even if it's just to block off a certain area for the dog?Sorry not really puppy related anymore but I know there’s such good advice on here. we’re at a staycation with our friends and our dog (14 month old cockapoo) he’s shown aggression before in the form of resource guarding, so we know what to avoid, chews that last too long etc. he’s never shown signs of aggression without a trigger but twice now he’s snapped at our friends 3 year old. We tried the toy but he soon gets bored and attacks. I tried sprinkling treats today and again, as soon as they're gone he goes for meWe got told at training to put treats on the floor to stop them jumping at us as they learn the treats come from the floor rather than anywhere else. Or what about throwing a ball or a toy away from you when you let him off so he gets distracted?
Any tips you get pass them on! I'm black and blue too. The puppy teeth were painful but now he has adult teeth I'm worried he's going to break a bone!My 8 month old rottie does this, although the frequency has decreased recently. I had to start muzzling him on walks because I was black and blue from him
I've got him booked in with a private trainer starting soon, so hopefully I can get some tips to help combat it
What about a young rescue (if you can find one that'll let you adopt with a young child. Maybe you could first foster to see how it goes first? My 7 year old daughter won't stop asking me for a puppy and I would love one too but I am in two minds about it. Firstly, it's only me and her at home so when I'm working I'd need to take the dog to my mums to be minded as I'm out for 10 hours on the days I work. Secondly, I'm worried that I'll regret it. When training is challenging I'm scared that I'll wish I'd never bothered. Any advice would be appreciated.
How are you getting on?? My pup had 2 weeks of being an angel and now he has turned into a devil againSo I have a question for any Dachshund owners!
We have a 7 month old, and he chews/ eats every toy we give him - any toy suggestions we can leave him alone with? We know he's teething, so give him frozen carrots, kongs, mini frozen boness (toy ones!) but if its anything soft he just eats it!
Also barking - he is very protective of my partner and I, and when we are out all he wants to do it bark at anyone / any dog that walks past or even is across the street!
We are sadly having to get a muzzle for when we go up the forest now too, as we unfortunately had to spend a few hundred on the emergency vet at the weekend after he ate something yet again on his walk so the vet and so many others have advised this![]()
Yeah i have started to do this but need to be more strict with it I thinkSomeone in my puppy class was asking about fussy dogs. The girl suggested putting the bowl down and remove it after half an hour, if they’ve not eaten it. And continue this. The dog will learn if I don’t eat it, the food goes away so I better eat when it’s there
I have two so ultimately they eat or the other one eats it.I wish mine wasn't fussy. My cats are fussy as well. I don't want a dog that would eat anything but one that would nicely eat the food it's meant to.
Bet he won't like butternut box.
Went to a restaurant once where they served doggy roast dinners, he only ate the meant and left everything else, most dogs would've ate that in record time
