It goes back to the days before in cell toilets. The residents used a receptacle (the pot) during the night which was then disposed of at unlock in the morning.

But it wasn't unusual for it to be emptied over the poor officer doing the unlock. Hence the term “potting”

Not a documentary, but the drama Time is very good. Sean Bean is in it. It gets all the “prisony” details right.

It is rumoured that Time, women's version is being filmed in the castle in North Wales are where I'm a Celeb came from (plus London) starring Jodie Whittaker.

I was in a train station a few months ago and a police dog handler and his dog walked past and I had to restrain myself because I’m one of them people that will ask everyone if I can pet their dogs

To be honest, if someone ASKS me with the labratwat (and provided he's not been tasked to do something) I will say yes, because he knows. If he's mid job or off lead then you get yelled at. My other dog is daft as fuck but because of the breed etc there is a no touchy rule.

And sometimes if subjects are scared of dogs it smoothes things over if they can pet the dog first. It won't stop the dog doing its job though

Sitting isn't a +ve indication per se (depending on how they are trained).. It's the dog deferring to their handler. You work with them every day and you know their body language when they are working.

The best part is having: Hundeführer on my jacket/car as the English tourists instantly have a stroke

I feel so sorry for bedwatchers when they come into the hospital. I mean, it must be so boring!

a family member is a hospital cleaner and they’ve worked around some prisoners given the proximity of the nearest jail. They say most of the time the guards are really bored and play on their phones.

However they did have to clean around a notorious murderer who had 4 bed watchers on hand and luckily the guards took no shit with the patient.

Just wondering if it's normal for people to be sent out of prison with just a tent like Orla did in Time?

On the whole, you If you complete that sentence to it’s half way point (calculated release date), the prison service/probation service will do everything they can to help and MUST provide shelter. If they refuse that help, that is outside probations jurisdiction. At this point a prisoner will likely be recalled to prison for breach of their licence conditions. The prisoner will then serve the rest of their sentence in prison.
Once the final release date arrives both the prison service and probation service has no obligation to keep that prisoner and they are released with no support. Here a tent may be issued.

My phobia is going to prison. I could not cope. I'm still scarred from "the marigolds/margarine scene" in Bad Girls . Not sure how true it was, but absolutely loved the TV show with Sean Bean and Stephen Graham in it - Time, I think it was called?

I couldn’t cope in prison either as an inmate! Honestly I would absolutely hate it.
Yeah Time it was called, although I can’t comment on it as I only watched the first episode I prefer watching prison documentaries in the UK rather than dramas based on prisons but that’s just my preference
Some of the ones on YouTube are quite insightful as to what a day in the life is like. Inside prison behind bars & also uks prison violence exposed (but I haven’t watched the whole thing so don’t quote me hahahah)

I’m just discovering how hard it is to have a loved one inside.
One of my closest friends is in prison. It’s not too long a sentence but I’m finding it tough not being able to talk to her, especially at the moment when my mental health is quite fragile.
That said I can’t even imagine how tough it is for her.

The service will look after her. This is literally what they are trained for. And if you are ever concerned you can flag it.

Have you got visits and things sorted? There are people on here who can point you in the right direction if you haven't.

Don't hesitate to say something if you cant or don't know how to. There is no judgement here

I’m from the prison locality. Just goes to show the quality of the local men, that the ladies are turning to prisoners for romance
It has been said how easy it is to be recruited into our prison and that interviews are via zoom. They aren’t testing the personalities of staff at all and it’s a constant recruitment drive here since the day they opened.

I went to a rally recently and a woman who'd been in prison spoke.
She didn't talk about day to day life but she did talk about how she was locked up with male murderers.
It was in Scotland very recently.

Ive worked in 6 jails and still do now and I’ve never heard anything like first come first served visits

Yeah they have ticket machines. You get your ticket and wait until your ticket number is called and go for your visit. I'm not a fantasist nor do I have reason to make it up lol.

So what happens about cuppas ? I couldn't cope with only 3 a day!

You can drink tea to your hearts content, but I used to buy teabags, sugar, milk powder & hot chocolate on canteen as i didn't like the teabags in the tea/breakfast packs.
Which was a small bag of tbags. About 5 sachets if sugar, whitener, carton of milk , cereal, bread, marj, jam & a hot chocolate.
When you first go in & have nothing you appreciate it though.
We used to give the new girls, or those with no outside help our packs.
You get a kettle in your cell, too. Although son jails still have flasks. .

Yes they have prisons in the UK where you can have babies in with you, I think until they are about 1 year old. Babies are then placed into foster care or they go to live with other family members, there was something on about this a few years ago based on a London prison, possibly Holloway?

Yes, you get issued cheapy sanitary protection for free, but you can buy the posher ones on the kiosk with your spends. You can buy ibuprofen on there too, or can request painkillers at medical hatch
