60 Days In was good. Volunteers go undercover in prison (in the US). Not sure how much was staged or if it was all genuine. Series 5 & 6 are on ITVX but I didn’t actually watch them…only the early series.

Always wished they'd do that type of show in a British prison

Also mattress questions - no they get one pillow and one mattress but think of it like the blue mats you used to have in PE at school with a tiny bit of foam in… not comfortable at all!

Not kept up with this thread but just heard through the grape vine that someone who was jailed for killing their baby is now out on day release less than 5 years after they were sentenced! Where is the justice?!

Just found this thread. My fellas done overall about 17 yrs inside (including a 12 yr stretch). He's IPP so always a chance of him going back for the dumbest of things. He's got a good P.O though and sticks to his licence conditions which aren't too strict considering. He's always telling me mad jail tales. He did say though that the things he's seen over the years have made him lose alot of his empathy.

Is anyone following the absolute scam that is Jessica Kent on YouTube/tiktok/facebook? She’s a prison YouTuber who first got big from videos about giving birth chained to a hospital bed in Arkansas USA. She can’t remember exactly how much prison time she’s done - she claims five years- even though her paperwork says about a year and a half. And she was a police informant!! (She’s made up some nonsense to explain it away that is utter nonsensical BS!) Meanwhile she’s trying to ruin the life of a former friend by claiming the friend is a snitch - something the friend’s paperwork proves is not true. Just yesterday she crossed the bridge if no return by reaching out to the ex-friends abusive ex-BF to tell him where her friend currently resides and that she was sleeping with someone. This dude beat this woman bad-pictures have been posted and are horrifying. Fortunately this guy shot some people a week or so ago and he’s currently in jail.

Most recently Jessica Kent (JK), recovery and reformed criminal specialist, moved to Utah with her new boyfriend, to avoid whatever consequences await her from her husband (who she set up to be arrested by the Feds) when he gets out of prison in a month.

And it turns about when she gave birth while an inmate, she was not chained to a hospital bed. The hospital forbid such actions and it led to the department of corrections banning it a few years before JK was arrested.

And there’s still so much more to be said about this horrible human being!

My best friends brother has been in prison a few times over the years. No direct experience myself but he got that good at playing pool/snooker -are they the same? - I don’t know but I know I’ve seen him pot every ball In one shot multiple times and no one likes playing him anymore because he always wins.

he escaped a few times aswell. One time was at Christmas and the police rang his mum and said he wouldn’t get any time added on if he came back on Boxing Day so he did

In all fairness tho it was never prison he needed and eventually he was treated in a secure unit for mental health for a good couple of years.

He’s never been done for anything violent, one time he robbed a department store (the store was closed he smashed the window to get in) left a trail of clothes to his front door, answered the door to the police wearing clothes complete with security tags and told them he’d been at home all night.

Sorry for the laughing reaction but I did have a little giggle reading this! I’m glad he got the help he needed though as I deal with a lot of prisoners with severe mental health issues and honestly prison just doesn’t help them at all! They do their best but sometimes they need more help than what we offer.
The pool/snooker question - lads come in with no idea how to play, few weeks/months they’re amazing at it! I also don’t know the rules or the difference but I know you have to call what pocket you’re potting the black into otherwise all hell breaks lose
We had tournaments around Christmas and new year time and the winner won £5 pin credit

My offending & going to prison was all drug related, apart from one. (Been in treatment for a while now. )
I've got one violence charge which was because I kind of lost it & fought back against my abuser, which really angered me when I was charged with it as there was evidence of his abuse & he'd been arrested & been to court a few times, but I finally had enough after hours of torture (my solicitors own word to describe what led up to me fighting back) & I got jailed! ..... He got probation...... Again. .
prison saved my life, I actually felt safe & 'free ' inside.
got help I needed, physically, mentally & medically. .

This is the vape selection off an old canteen sheet. The black box with the number in is the max. you can buy of that item.
you are given a vape pack when you first go in (vape, 3pack of capsules, & a charger) the vapes aren't the best so I'd buy a new one occasionally & 'sell' my old one.
I learnt how to get/make a light from breaking the capsule. .
Majority of women vaped, but tobacco was still sought after, & women were willing to pay crazy amounts for a roll up! .
screws were always saying how much it stunk of tobacco considering it was meant to be smoke free. .

I think prison is a joke and not at all about rehabilitation. Not enough is done to help these men and women and if anything, it just places them around bad influences which leads to silly mistakes when they’re out

Most of the prisons I visited and there was a lot it would be first come first served . I would get there as soon as the visitors reception opened which would normally be about 12 and visits started at 2..so I could be in the first group which would get sent across. If you were in one of the last groups you normally wouldn’t get the full visiting time. And when your doing six hour round trips you want to make sure you get every minute. All turned out to be a waste making such a effort as be turned out to be the vilest bloke i had met lol but I would definitely get there at LEAST an hour before bexcc x

I don’t know about every prison but all prisons I’ve worked out we can only let a certain of people through visits gate at one time, i;e max 10. So I’m guessing people mean like if you get there first you can be first 10 to go through into the visits hall - however staff try their hardest to get everyone in in time (visitors and prisoner) operationally this sometimes doesn’t work but staff do try to ensure you get the allocated visits time you’re entitled to have

I remember once coming back (my best friend was my next door neighbour growing up) to a street full of police cars. My friend told me he’d robbed Tesco and their mum looked offended and went “excuse me, he did NOT rob Tesco. He paid For everything from Tesco it was the bookies he robbed”
Me and my bestie were doubled over like “Oh that’s ok then mum” (she’s a second mum to me).

Again, non violent, a staff member had left £500 out on the counter and he picked it up and walked off and went and did a massive food shop for his mum and bought beer for everybody

Just joining to say that someone close to me did a 4 month stretch in a UK prison well known for suicides last year. An older building. It was a shock, especially as nobody dealing with the case believed they'd get sent down and this person wouldn't put up much of a defence because they wanted to face their guilt, having done something very out of character.

There was a lot of boredom. Life was quite mundane. The worst thing was the 23 hour a day 'lock up' in a cell. No opportunities for playing pool or anything. The 'hour out' was for a walk round the yard and a trip to the library. If there was 'staff training' on a given day, they never got out of the pad at all. Short-term prisoners weren't offered much in the way of jobs that got them out of their pads and there was so little to do. My friend waited weeks to get on an art course, which only came up in the last few weeks of the sentence. That meant two hours a day release from the pad a few days a week. Time was spent drawing, making things out of basic implements and watching the very limited TV service. You had to be doing more 'serious' time to earn certain privileges. Mental health and opportunities for various forms of rehabilitation wasn't really addressed very well. First cellmate was a pain in the backside but there was the option to bunk up with another person in the last month, which improved things somewhat. The food was ok, if a bit bland for a vegetarian.

My friend, thankfully, took in their stride, accepting that they were there to be punished. They said it wasn't a time full of dramas, like you see on TV. There was the odd ruckus but it was usually diffused. Surprising, considering how long the inmates had to spend in their pads. It was awful for the family outside, though, because communication was limited and it took nearly a month to get any kind of communication at all, due to the various checks and procedures.

I love parole on bbc iPlayer. I hope they make more! It must be hard being a parole judge cos what if you let someone out as they appear to have changed then they go and kill someone even though they’ve been deemed as not a threat to the public.

No, the CPS is the Crown Prosecution Service and Judges are part of The Judiciary. Two completely separate organisations and not controlled by the police.

That’s heartbreaking bamboo. I hadn’t even considered being innocent of a serious crime I was only thinking fraud or something like that. To be in prison for murder when you didn’t do it is nightmarish.

The reason for limiting the amount of choc, fizzy drinks etc was because of how much they can store.
