Edit: Womens jails terrify me 😂😂😂
😂😂. why!? 😂😂.
tbh it's not the first time I've heard that!
I've seen conversations between p.o & former p.o & they've said the same kind of thing, or that they've worked in both & hated women's & much preferred the male estate
apparently men are a lot easier to work with, etc.
Some said it's down to the 'baggage ' that comes with women, & the high rate of self harming, suicide attempts, trauma etc.
others said that women were just hard work & 'held grudges' (whatever that means!? 😂)

For any of you interested..... This is a week menu sheet that we fill in, it is different each week, then changes again 4 weekly.
got an old DHL canteen sheet somewhere , too.
years ago the prison had a canteen/shop, then it changed to Aramark for a few years. (Terrible company!!)

So what happens about cuppas ? I couldn't cope with only 3 a day!

Or smokers, can you just smoke wherever you want in prison or just your cell?
They can buy vapes from canteen… only supposed to vape in cell or on yard but they tend to vape wherever
Cuppas - loads of lads in my prison don’t use their tea packs so there’s always some spare for the people who drink more tea

Like the staff all sat in the office chugging on their vapes while “updating P-NOMIS”

The days of hiding on a walkway while in patrol and having a crafty smoke are long gone :ROFLMAO:

You can drink tea to your hearts content, but I used to buy teabags, sugar, milk powder & hot chocolate on canteen as i didn't like the teabags in the tea/breakfast packs.
Which was a small bag of tbags. About 5 sachets if sugar, whitener, carton of milk , cereal, bread, marj, jam & a hot chocolate.
When you first go in & have nothing you appreciate it though.
We used to give the new girls, or those with no outside help our packs.
You get a kettle in your cell, too. Although son jails still have flasks. 😒.

up until 2017 you were allowed to smoke, then the ban came in & it became vaping only......... .. Which DHL are making a mint off As they only sell 3 packs of capsules with about 2ml of liquid in! & it's 3.99 a pack. It was the logicPro vapes. But I've been out since '19, so luckily missed the lockdown by a few months. 😷👍. Kept in contact with a few women & was told its now

DHL are robbing b*stards, as bad as aramark imo. ...
good thing about smoking inside was the money you could make fro m the Golden Virginia 5g "HMP ONLY" pouches! 😂.
THEy were a popular item & in demand "on the out" . ... 😂.

@Terflife obviously don’t say if you don’t want to, but can I ask why you were in prison? It’s so interesting, I hope you aren’t offended that I asked 🙈
No, not offended by you asking.👍.
My offending & going to prison was all drug related, apart from one. (Been in treatment for a while now. 👍)
I've got one violence charge which was because I kind of lost it & fought back against my abuser, which really angered me when I was charged with it as there was evidence of his abuse & he'd been arrested & been to court a few times, but I finally had enough after hours of torture (my solicitors own word to describe what led up to me fighting back) & I got jailed! 😠..... He got probation...... Again. 😠.
prison saved my life, I actually felt safe & 'free ' inside.
got help I needed, physically, mentally & medically. 💕👍.

@floggersunited
This is the vape selection off an old canteen sheet. The black box with the number in is the max. you can buy of that item.
you are given a vape pack when you first go in (vape, 3pack of capsules, & a charger) the vapes aren't the best so I'd buy a new one occasionally & 'sell' my old one.
I learnt how to get/make a light from breaking the capsule. 😂.
Majority of women vaped, but tobacco was still sought after, & women were willing to pay crazy amounts for a roll up! 😮.
screws were always saying how much it stunk of tobacco considering it was meant to be smoke free. 😂😂.

I was going to ask about kettles in cells. But thought it was a fool question.. Seems it wasn't. I didn't think kettles in cells would be allowed, do people not end up getting boiling water thrown over them in fights? Is "prison napalm" an actual thing??

Oh yes, it's a thing. Boiling water mixed with sugar. It's not a nice thing to witness

It's the same with a good old fashioned potting........trust me you do not want to be around when that cocktail that's been living under the heating pipes for a week or so, ends up on someone 🤮

Excuse my ignorance. What's potting?

It goes back to the days before in cell toilets. The residents used a receptacle (the pot) during the night which was then disposed of at unlock in the morning.

But it wasn't unusual for it to be emptied over the poor officer doing the unlock. Hence the term “potting”

Its still done to this day sadly 🤢

I always think of prison on a sunny day. I wonder if they are locked in a cell whilst it's sunny outside or whether they have a garden 🤔

Depends on the regime and security category at the particular jail.

They would be locked up after lunch in A, B and C while the jail was in patrol state. After which it would be work/education/visits. Might have an association period after dinner when outside exercise is provided. But its not in the botanical gardens, its a grey enclosed space surrounded by barbed wire.

D category jails in the UK are very different as they are open. They have no walls. No gates. No massive barbed wire fences. And the residents have a key to their own room. As long as they attend work and the roll is checked (when the control room check they aren't missing any) they can and do entertain themselves in the sun.

I was unfortunately a witness to one about 5/6 years ago just prior to the jail going into patrol so we could remove our customer. It wasnt nice 🤢

I've recently found this thread and have been unsure on whether to post or not!
My partner has recently been sent to prison.
How do people deal with being judged on supporting a partner in prison? How do people deal with the lack of contact etc!

You won't be judged here by any of us
