Our introductions were seven days. Day 1 spend an hour at foster care, day 2 a few hours, day 3 spend a morning and do the morning routine, day 4 spend the evening and do the bedtime, day 5 foster carers bring them to your house for a sleepover, day 6 a break so baby can have goodbyes with foster carers, day 7 collect them and take them home. That's usual for most people I know. Some do do bumps, where adopters turn up at the park or something a few times so baby recognises you.
Our foster carer put our pictures up around him too, at his level, in his cot etc so he was constantly seeing our faces. Prior to introductions we did video calls and although he didn't really interact with us on the calls, he heard our voices. We also sent voicenotes so our voices would be familiar to him. You create a scrapbook as well with photos of your home which foster carers can show them. It is really well thought out to be honest, it's not just swoop in and take them.

I'm a social worker, and I'm hoping the general introduction process was around 1-2 weeks and was agreed as facts by all parties therefore didn't need to be covered in oral evidence.

I just double checked there, and the murderers of Elsie (her real name was Shayla, I should say, that's her birth name) and Leiland James both got life sentences with a minimum of 18 years.

Is it looking like this is what he did? Oral rape? Sorry to ask the question, it’s like I’m trying to understand the charges but my brain won’t let me believe it. That poor poor little baby.

Why was he wearing a nappy if he was found drowned in the bath? Who put the nappy on and why? Priority would be resuscitation and making a call to 999 to at least prep the hospital for the babies arrival - this call could have been done on route too.

Just watched a clip of JM sitting on a bench outside the hospital on the phone to someone. He firstly says baby Preston was in his bedroom when JV walked away for a few minutes and then changed to he was in his seat and then in the bath water.
I honestly can’t stop thinking of this poor baby and the torture he went through

People have said that the time between them being approved to be Preston’s adoptive parents to actually getting him was very short - I don’t know much about adoption so I was wondering why they got him quite quickly? Is it due to diversity or do different areas have different timescales?

Grandmother bathed him in morning, Varley claims he bathed him again as he’d been sick plus Varley wanted to take a shower at the same time so he could watch the baby in the bath.

And in-between the baths, Preston was filmed struggling to breathe?

Also - I am really confused by the description of Preston slumped over the cot. I’m imagining him standing and leaning over but it sounds like he’s not breathing (lips blue etc) - how is he in this position? Wouldn’t he move away if they’re not holding him? Or has he been forced into that position for so long he now can’t?

I can only imagine they mean when you can lower the side of the cot, that he was slumped over like that, propped up on his knees 🥲

Can I ask, will the prosecution detail exactly when/how they believe the 2 counts of assault by penetration and 1 count of sexual assault occurred? Or are the jury supposed to just conclude something happened without going into specifics? I must admit the DNA evidence is not as strong as I thought it may be.

I’m finding following the trial live difficult for 2 reasons - obviously what is being reported is horrendous. That poor little boy. I feel for those in court having to hear it all and see things too.

The second reason is the live reporting on the Manchester post. As I’m working, I’m not able to follow real time most days so catch up at the end of the day and it only goes so far back so I miss most of the days reporting. I followed the Letby trail and didn’t have this problem, I could scroll all the way back and read the updates from the start of court. Is this a me thing or is it the site?

I mean explicitly mentioning he threw it out of the window (who does that?!) The only reason I can think why someone would feel the need to lie like that would be if a nappy that would contain evidence had been put into M-F's car maybe to dispose of elsewhere, and to cover the fact it was in the car would be it being thrown from the window to him outside. Just a weird thing to tell someone you had done.

In the interests of trying to be balanced, at the time my 25 year old was a baby, I had a Labrador who would eat dirty nappies He’d even seek them out from a bin to eat. If it was nighttime, or if he soiled a nappy before bath time, drop them out of the window and shortly after the bath time was done, I’d go and put it in the outside bin. I don’t remember ever leaving nappies outside for my then husband to pick up when he returned from work.

was JV using the timer to work out how long before he could raise the alarm or before the partner was likely to call, if that was a regular thing to happen on his way home from work to see if any milk or sundry items were needed to be brought in with him?

Were they both shoe and sockless in the hospital videos? Can’t find an ‘innocent’ explanation for the partner to have removed his shoes given the scene he returned to. He may have been sockless as some men don’t wear socks with loafers, but shoeless doesn’t make sense.

Just reading today's live updates from the Manchester Evening News and it seems that Preston's mother was going to contest the adoption:

It looks like they were remanded into custody in June 2025, and I thought I saw before that McGowan appeared on video link from Frankland, at the next Court date, which was October 2025.
I can't find where Varley was on remand.

I have been listening to ‘The Tragic Life of Preston Davey’ on Spotify. There hasn’t been a podcast uploaded since Tuesday, which seems strange. They uploaded a new podcast daily during the LL trial.

Thank you posters who signposted the Lancs Eve News webpage, I’ve been able to get daily updates from there, as well as on here.

Same! This trial is really affecting my mental health, I literally cannot stop thinking about Preston. I’m sure I read somewhere that his bowels were punctured? Gosh that breaks my heart

That’s the part I can’t stop thinking about, that must be 100% positive proof. Some of the other charges are wishy washy.
