Mr Vardon is asking about a prepared statement Mr McGowan-Fazakerley gave to the police the day after Preston died.
The defendant confirms he felt it was important to recount the information he was given by his former partner.

"Former partner"... yeah but he was current right up till you were remanded 
So why is Varley saying they’re still together? He must know JMF is going to say otherwise.

So did JV lie on the stand to make it look like JMF was standing firm with him ... honestly? Is he that stupid he thought that wouldn't get found out.
Surely the police will be able to confirm if the bedroom was as described when they searched the property afterwards ? Sick in the bedroom with towels on the floors and the windows open ? They have been very specific on what they allege happened so if the details don't add up then that should be good evidence against them. The bathroom (no water in the bath and the bath seat in the sink) have been described by the prosecution but I haven't seen anything about the bedroom.
Maybe JV has just found out that it’s over and has been for a few weeks…

They won’t have had contact since they’ve been remanded. They’ll have clearly agreed their story and I reckon JV would have been telling JMF that there is no evidence so they’ll get away with it if they stick to the story etc.
Reality has hit for JMF while on remand and he’s started thinking of himself. He’s done it cleverly and made his KC not ‘out’ him too much meaning JV would still get on the stand and stick to the script where he defends himself and JMF.
I actually think JMF is more of a manipulator than JV.

I don’t think it matters, because Preston didn't die due to drowning.
But if the bedroom wasn't how described it puts massive holes in JMF's story of what he saw when he got home.
But all it could tell you is that he lies. There are easier ways to prove that. Also he isn’t on trial for the murder.
I actually think there may have been a bit of mess, but h is lying - keeps saying about the smell. You can’t smell a photo. So there probably is a photo in evidence from when the home was searched.

It's a shame there isn't any way of knowing how JV reacted when JMF said that.
Is the cross JV’s defence questioning JMF, or is it prosecution?
