Hoping that Peter W asks the hot tub question and wraps things up with Varley today. I don’t see what else he can do, the jury will have seen enough by now, the lies have been exposed to a degree where I doubt even Varley can fully understand his own garbled account. I want to hear what JMF has to say.

I'll be surprised if JMF gives evidence
So would I.

Unless he thinks that he can slither out of responsibility by blaming JV - or, of course, he wants to "make his name". But I think he'll just decline to testify and hope that his barrister can put enough of a spin on the evidence to cast a few "reasonable doubts".

I thought this sounded very strange too. No way should adopters be able to look at all the children available online and pick one they like the look of.
Some councils have open days and events where all the profiles are available and you can even meet some of the children. Tends to be older children though as these are usually harder to place.

Maybe someone with medical experience can answer this, but would a doctor really say "if your tiny baby has a seizure, just record it it will be fine" surely they'd want to look at brain patterns etc? It's not normal for a baby to have a seizure? What if he stops breathing?
This is absolutely not the same, but one of mine had viral wheeze, which is terrifying as they struggle to breathe and we were told give him an inhaler and get straight to hospital, every single time! I can't tell you how often we ended up there over one winter, overnight stays, interrogations as to whether we smoked around him. And viral wheeze is a fairly common thing.
Exactly, my eldest son also had viral wheeze as a toddler and we had the same experience. 111 calls would immediately have an ambulance out to us and we were admitted to hospital with him several times. You’d think considering these seizures never happened before when he was with his foster mum, the hospital staff would be wanting to get to the bottom of it more as it’s unexplained.

The fact that JMF is still in a relationship with JV (according to JV at least) is like clinging on to a sinking ship. JV is likely going to be found guilty, and the fact JMF hasn’t even ended the relationship by this point would suggest that he, at the very least, knew about what was going on and was ok with it. At the worst, that he took part in it. It’s just bizarre that JMF remains in the relationship given the evidence, and I think the jury will find it difficult to find JMF innocent if they find JV guilty. Personally I wouldn’t need a guilty verdict - what’s been proven so far alone would be more than enough!

I noticed JV hasn't been asked about the hot tub yet in cross. Interested to hear how he answers it if questioned (although assuming he'll just brush it off with "absolutely not sir").

Also interested to know whether his tone comes across as angry and annoyed like his police interviews. Given he explains lots of his actions and language choices as his personality, I can't believe he's not snapped back into that yet.
oh yeh! I am interested to know why he said ‘no comment’ - from what I remember I saw from first trial reporting was the photo was taken 28th/29th June (a day before his hospital admission on the 30th) - JMF took the photo & when it was shown to the jury they zoomed in on Preston’s head.

I was thinking did he not have any bruising then - and then on the 30th at hospital he did, when he said it was the tox box from 12 days before?

I'm surprised they didn't question any of the medical staff who appeared at the begining of the trial evidence about this. Even in a sense of "would you say this about a 11/12month old baby?"

I know when he had a seizure when he had the chest infection, that would've been due to temperature(?) but surely the advice would also be to get them checked out because fever to the point of causing a seizure in a child so small would also be serious. But google does give some of the same "video child, serious if over 5mins" etc. answers.

I'm wondering how much JV has been googling and researching to get some level of excuse in the 2 years they were under investigation. Same with the clever comments about the phone yesterday, and it being "app open time and not scrolling time".

Sorry if this is inappropriate to ask, but I keep hearing about the Lets Twist Again video without any context of what happened, I don't expect anyone to be graphic but briefly what did this video entail? Were they being rough with Preston?

I'm wondering if JMF has done something, or been actively involved in something almost as hideous as what happened to Preston - something that hasn't yet been discovered, or linked with his name - and JV knows all about it and can prove it, so JMF has to show a united front with JV.

I know this is just wild speculation, and likely to be well off the mark, but I can't think what continues to bond this evil pair.

He’s back on the stand just now, let’s see what crap he comes out with today, or what he doesn’t remember!

I’ve been editing this because it posted before I was finished typing but the general gist was I personally would not see it as appropriate for a child without a diagnosis to not be taken to hospital if they seem like they are breathing holding while having a seizure. If you don’t know why it is happening and have no treatment or plan available to you then why would you essentially ignore it and hope for the best?

My little girl had suspected seizures as a baby/toddler. I did film a couple without taking her to hospital, she was not distressed or breath holding however otherwise I would have rung an ambulance. I was given general seizure advice (which I already knew being a nurse and having epilepsy myself), get help if she’s not breathing normally/cluster of “seizures”/lasts 5 minutes (so you do time it)/not herself after it. She was sent for EEG and ECG to rule out epilepsy. I am still vigilant if she ever seems vacant as EEG doesn’t always show abnormality but it was thought to be related to her heart condition which is now resolved. There’s no way I would have not taken her in if she looked like little Preston is described in those videos. In my opinion he’s just using what he’d been told after the febrile convulsion to make excuses for what was happening to Preston.

I feel like with JV, there are partial truths and a lot of lying by omission to suit his narrative. Perhaps he has told medical professionals that he thinks Preston has been having seizures and medical professionals, having seen no evidence or signs to indicate seizure activity have asked him to record them for them to ascertain whether they are true seizures or something else.

It could also be that he's lying through his teeth, as he's clearly prone to that!

I think its normal for some older school aged, children who are known to have seizures, or some special needs children, to just be recorded and noted, as they don't need hospital treatment every time. Some epilectic children for instance, might have a noticable absence, but not a major seizure
This is where perhaps JV is showing his ignorance/arrogance as he seems to be assuming this would also be the case for a toddler who is a looked after child as well.
I cant image most doctors not getting concerned over a young child who hasnt had seizures before. They will want to know a reason or a cause.

My guess is that whoever was holding Preston (JV?) had him on their lap either facing forward or facing away, holding him around the torso/ribcage and twisting his body from side to side in time with the song. It’s the sort of thing you might do when playing with a baby that they would enjoy and giggle at, but in this case it sounds like they were being excessively rough and Preston wouldn’t have enjoyed it. Rather like the spinning cup video which, again, showed that he was being spun excessively and for a very long time.

It’s sinister because it shows repeated instances of “play” which have clearly crossed the line into cruelty, and yet they can argue that they didn’t intend to be cruel, and didn’t realise at the time that it had caused him pain and distress.

He's getting himself in some state isn't he?

"Mr Wright asks: "How did he get those bruises you were being asked about on June 30 when he was presented to hospital staff and asked about them?"

Mr Varley: "I don’t know but I can give examples of when he has been injured by things.""

Sure JV, I dunno how I got the bruise on my foot right now, but I can tell you how I've hurt it before.......2009, I got ran over by a kids scooter - that any good? Jesus wept.

This is what I’ve been thinking. It’s not unusual for some families to be advised not to come rushing into A&E every time their child has a seizure, but to keep a record of when they happen so that a paediatrician can review at a later date. But this advice would NOT be given to a baby of Preston’s age, who has started to have seizures seemingly out of nowhere.

JV is indeed assuming that he can get away with this lie as he thinks it’s plausible.

The seizure video showed Preston not breathing and turning blue, surely this would be difficult to watch let alone take a video of!
